“People are claiming that I made the comments under the influence of Anurag Kashyap, but I was strictly advised by my producers, my mentor, and Anurag Kashyap himself that I don’t need to talk about it. I went beyond their advice and said it all. Now I understand why they asked me to avoid it. Things have been going completely against me. People are even calling me a traitor. But I am not angry at all. I made one film and I will make another one,” Anuparna said.

“I will continue to speak against injustice. I believe such things should come into discussion, whether it is Kashmir, Murshidabad, or Gujarat,” the filmmaker asserted.

While accepting her Best Director Award at the Venice Film Festival, Anuparna Roy stood up for Palestine. “Every child deserves peace, freedom, liberation and Palestinians are no exception… It’s a responsibility at the moment to stand by Palestine…. “I might upset my country, but it doesn’t matter to me anymore,” she said, as quoted by Deadline.

On the box office monster

Over the last few years, box office numbers have turned into promotional tools to leverage buzz for films. Talking about the phenomenon, Manoj says, “It’s a monster that is created by the producers themselves, the commercial producers, for their own game. Very soon, this monster is going to eat you up. You have created Bhasmasura. Just wait for the day you are going to put your hand on your own head, and you will be ruined. This has been created by our own successful people, and one day it will eat them up.”

OTT’s change of stance

Equating box office success with quality has particularly hurt smaller, independent films, as their low collections are now considered a sign of bad quality. Manoj argues, “The small, independent films always experience struggle. Then came a very brief time when OTT had just entered the country, and they were welcoming. But very soon, they changed their stance, and all of them started focusing on mainstream subjects and faces. One feels sad, because I am of the opinion that if you finish independent movement, your cinema will become just a product and nothing more. If the art is taken out, it has no value.”

He gives the example of Amitabh Bachchan, a rare superstar who also did smaller films during the peak of his stardom. “Mr Bachchan has also done a few fabulous (small) films like Abhimaan and Mili. He has done many more. Only Don, after a point, will be boring. He is Mr Bachchan also because of the kind of films he has done earlier in his career,” says the actor.

When I walked up the stairs, I was totally out of breath. I had a bath, I couldn’t breathe, I didn’t know what was happening, so I called up my doctor. In the X-ray, more than half of my lungs were covered in water. They had to tap the water out. They all were hoping it was TB (tuberculosis), but it turned out to be cancer.”

Dutt shared that it was a big challenge for his family to inform him about the diagnosis, and his sister was the one who broke the news. He mentioned that they started planning on how to address the situation together.

Sanjay Dutt added, “I did cry for over 2-3 hours because I was thinking of my kids, life, my wife, everything. These flashes come. I said I should stop getting weak.”

He underwent treatment in Dubai since he was unable to obtain a visa. Rakesh Roshan, a cancer survivor himself, helped Dutt in finding a doctor. Sanjay revealed how he gathered the courage to fight the disease.

He added, “They told me that I’d lose hair and other things would happen, I’d vomit, so I told the doctor ‘mereko kuch nahi hoga’, I’ll not lose hair, I’ll not vomit, I won’t lie on the bed, and she kind of smiled. I did my chemotherapy, and I came back and I sat on that bike for one hour and I cycled, I did that day after day, every day.”

THE Turtles singer Mark Volman, known for rock hit “Happy Together”, has died aged 78.

The beloved artist who was a founding member of the iconic 1960s band died after a “brief, unexpected illness” on Friday.

The popular rocker died in Nashville, Tennessee, a spokesperson told People.

The Turtles co-founder was also known for his performances on hits such as “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “You Baby,” “She’d Rather Be with Me” and “Elenore”.

Volman previously revealed he had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2020.

He bravely opened up about his experiences suffering from tremors and hallucinations in 2023.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the icon’s musical career started in his high school days which date back to 1963.

He joined classmate Howard Kaylan – The Turtles frontman – and his band at the time which was named The Crossfires.

This outfit was eventually renamed The Turtles – and their first Top 10 hit came in 1965.

The breakout track was a version of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe”.

They then shot to stardom with pop sensations like “Happy Together”.

Just make it equal,” she said.

“I was in an accident; my brakes failed. There were also attempts to mix something in my food to make me sick. Strange things started happening outside my house, too,” Tanushree added.

When asked if anyone from the film industry reached out to help, she said, “I don’t have any friends. And when all of this started happening to me, the few contacts I had also disappeared.”

About people calling her a drama queen after her video, Tanushree said, “People always say such things. They said I was acting in 2008, they said the same in 2018. And who are these people anyway?”

You don’t walk into Mahavatar Narsimha expecting subtlety. You walk in anticipating celestial rage, a dose of dharma, and an animation style that’s still learning to flex its muscles. What you get, however, is something far more arresting—Ashwin Kumar’s mythological epic doesn’t just retell the tale of Lord Narasimha; it resurrects it with a reverence that borders on contagious.

The film retells the legend of Lord Narasimha, the fierce half-man, half-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu, who descends to vanquish the tyrannical Asur —an ego-driven demonic king—Hiranyakashipu and protect the unwavering devotion of his son, Prahlad.

However, in a statement, she clarified that she is not associated with ALTT.

“Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021.”

She added, “Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts.”

Ektaa’s statement further read, “Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization and following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) duly approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025.”

She also stated that Balaji Telefilms Limited is “fully compliant of all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance.”

On July 25, it was announced that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) blocked as many as 24 apps and websites for obscene, adult and vulgar content.

To curb the spread of unlawful content online, the MIB issued a notification directing all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to disable public access to 24 websites. These platforms have been flagged for hosting content that violates multiple Indian laws and standards of digital ethics.

As per the notification, the websites in question – such as ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, and more – were reportedly found to be in violation of provisions under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (particularly Sections 67 and 67A), Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited period drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu – Part 1: Sword vs Spirit finally made its theatrical debut on Thursday (July 24) and opened to an impressive start at the box office. Despite facing years of delays, the film managed to draw massive footfalls across cinema halls, particularly in the Telugu-speaking regions.

According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 31.50 crore on its opening day in India across all languages. This is in addition to the Rs 12.7 crore the film had already collected from paid premieres held a day earlier.

With this, Hari Hara Veera Mallu has recorded a strong total gross of Rs 44.20 crore, marking one of the highest openings for Pawan Kalyan.

The film also registered a noteworthy 57.39 per cent overall occupancy in Telugu theatres on the first day of its release. Morning shows saw the highest attendance at 63.52 per cent, which dipped slightly during the afternoon with 45.89 per cent occupancy. However, the numbers picked up again in the evening with 58.12 per cent, and continued strong into the night shows, which recorded 62.01 per cent occupancy.

Despite mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, the star power of Pawan Kalyan has clearly drawn audiences to theatres in large numbers. The opening performance has surpassed the actor’s previous records, putting Hari Hara Veera Mallu ahead of his earlier blockbusters such as Vakeel Saab (Rs 40.10 crore), Bheemla Nayak (Rs 37.15 crore) and Bro (Rs 30.5 crore) in terms of Day 1 collection.

The film was believed to be lost after its brief appearance in festival circuits but a 35mm print was accidently discovered in the archives at the Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art in Berlin by two US curators — Simran Bhalla and Michael Metzger — in 2019. They were searching for work by a different director with the same surname and chanced upon the prints of “Badnaam Basti”, according to an article in The Guardian in December 2024. The legacy of the film, which was quite forward for its times for its homo-erotic undertones, will be honoured by this rare showcase, followed by the Australian premiere of “We Are Faheem and Karun”, a tender queer love story by acclaimed filmmaker Onir, according to a release here. This year, IFFM will screen nearly 75 films that reflect themes of inclusivity spanning gender, race, sexuality, disability, and women’s representation.

In fact, nearly 40 percent of the film had reportedly been shot, and Salman had even begun promotional work, appearing in full Ram avatar—complete with traditional attire, bow, and arrow. But the film never saw the light of day. What derailed the project wasn’t creative differences or budgetary constraints—but a budding off-screen relationship.

According to insiders, romance blossomed between Sohail Khan and Pooja Bhatt during the film’s shoot. Pooja had even spoken about marriage during a 1995 interview, indicating the relationship had grown serious. However, when their father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, learned about the relationship, he reportedly advised Sohail to step away.

Although Salman tried to maintain peace and salvage the film, things took a turn. Pooja, upset with the cold reception from the Khan family, is said to have exited the film, effectively bringing the entire production to a halt. As a result, the project was shelved indefinitely—and Salman’s portrayal of Lord Ram remained an unrealized dream.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has taken a step towards addressing safety concerns in the film industry by personally insuring the lives of around 650 stuntmen and stuntwomen across India. The move comes in the wake of renewed scrutiny on stunt safety following the recent death of stuntman Raju during the shoot of a Tamil film directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Arya.

According to stunt coordinator Vikram Singh Dahiya, who has worked on projects such as Dhadak 2, Jigra, Gunjan Saxena, Antim, and OMG 2, the insurance plan now in place includes both health and accident coverage.

He said, “Thanks to Akshay sir, around 650 to 700 stuntmen and action crew members in Bollywood are now covered under insurance. The policy includes both health and accident coverage. If a stunt performer is injured, whether on or off set, they can avail of cashless medical treatment up to Rs 5 to Rs 5.5 lakh.”

The initiative may offer temporary relief to many workers, but it also highlights the ongoing need for structured guidelines, standardised safety protocols, and greater accountability on sets across the country.

Stunt performers have long worked in high-risk environments with minimal safety measures and little financial protection. Many in the action community lack access to health or accident insurance, leaving them and their families vulnerable in case of injury or death on the job.

Superman, the latest big-budget action film featuring the iconic DC superhero, powered to the top of the North American box office in its debut weekend with US$122 million (S$156 million) in ticket sales, industry estimates showed Sunday (Jul 13).

KIM Kardashian fans are convinced that she spent millions of dollars on a designer bag after posting video of ‘stealing’ it.

An original Hermès Birkin Bag was sold for a record-breaking amount at an online auction.

The iconic status symbol – which was listed by Sotheby’s – was originally created for actress and model Jane Birkin in 1984.

Despite stains and scratches, it became the most expensive handbag ever sold after a buyer paid a huge €8.6 million ($10 million).

Kim Kardashian, 44, took to social media to poke fun at the sale as she seemed to be eyeing up the bag.

She posted a video on her Instagram which featured an AI version of herself by meme account RickDick.

The character broke a glass case which contained the original Birkin bag, as the caption read: “birKIM.”

After the post, she followed up with a string of texts from various people, who all wondered if she had bought the extortionate accessory.

One text read: “Please tell me you bought that Birkin. Would be BAD ASS.”

Another pal asked: “Are u the winner of the first Birkin bag?”

While a third enquired: “Did you buy Jane Birkin’s birkin?!!?”

As a fourth jokingly stated: “”Kim for real did you buy the original Birkin??? Or should I stop blaming you every time I lose an auction?”

And someone else added: “Okay tell me the truth, did you buy the Birkin or not?”

However, the designer bag actually went to a private collector from Japan – whose identity is known – despite the speculation.

Jeff Bezos’ wife Lauren Sanchez – who is a close friend of The Kardashians reality star – was also rumored to have bid for ownership of the bag.

According to the Associated Press, the auction started at a whopping $1million as bids were placed both in person and via the phone.

Bids were as high as $6.5 million, $6.8 million and €6.2 million ($7.2million) before the final price was agreed.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a … a purple and orange shape-shifting chemical compound?

Writer-director James Gunn’s “Superman” was always going to be a strange chemistry of filmmaker and material. Gunn, the mind behind “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Suicide Squad,” has reliably drifted toward a B-movie superhero realm populated (usually over-populated) with the lesser-known freaks, oddities and grotesquerie of back-issue comics.

But you don’t get more mainstream than Superman. And let’s face it, unless Christopher Reeve is in the suit, the rock-jawed Man of Steel can be a bit of a bore. Much of the fun and frustration of Gunn’s movie is seeing how he stretches and strains to make Superman, you know, interesting.

In the latest revamp for the archetypal superhero, Gunn does a lot to give Superman (played with an easy charm by David Corenswet ) a lift. He scraps the origin story. He gives Superman a dog. And he ropes in not just expected regulars like Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) but some less conventional choices — none more so than that colorful jumble of elements, Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan).

Metamorpho, a melancholy, mutilated man whose powers were born out of tragedy, is just one of many side shows in “Superman.” But he’s the most representative of what Gunn is going for. Gunn might favor a traditional-looking hero at the center, like Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” And Corenswet, complete with hair curl, looks the part, too. But Gunn’s heart is with the weirdos who soldier on.

The heavy lift of “Superman” is making the case that the perfect superhuman being with “S” on his chest is strange, too. He’s a do-gooder at a time when no one does good anymore.

Not everything works in “Superman.” For those who like their Superman classically drawn, Gunn’s film will probably seem too irreverent and messy. But for anyone who found Zack Snyder’s previous administration painfully ponderous, this “Superman,” at least, has a pulse.

It would be hard to find a more drastic 180 in franchise stewardship. Where Snyder’s films were super-serious mythical clashes of colossuses, Gunn’s “Superman” is lightly earthbound, quirky and sentimental. When this Superman flies, he even keeps his arms back, like an Olympic skeleton rider.

We begin not on Krypton or Kansas but in Antarctica, near the Fortress of Solitude. The opening titles set-up the medias res beginning. Three centuries ago, metahumans first appeared on Earth. Three minutes ago, Superman lost a battle for the first time. Lying bloodied in the snow, he whistles and his faithful super dog, Krypto, comes running.

Like some of Gunn’s other novelty gags (I’m looking at you Groot), Krypto is both a highlight and overused gag throughout. Superman is in the midst of a battle by proxy with Luthor. From atop his Luthor Corp. skyscraper headquarters, Luther gives instructions to a team sitting before computer screens while, on a headset, barking out coded battle directions to drone-assisted henchmen. “13-B!” he shouts, like a Bingo caller.

Whether this is an ideal localizing of main characters in conflict is a debate that recedes a bit when, back in Metropolis, Clark Kent returns to the Daily Planet. There’s Wendell Pierce as the editor-in-chief, Perry White, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. But the character of real interest here is, of course, Lois.

She and Kent are already an item in “Superman.” When alone, Lois chides him over the journalistic ethics of interviewing himself after some derring-do, and questions his flying into countries without their leaders’ approval. Brosnahan slides so comfortably into the role that I wonder if “Superman” ought to have been “Lois,” instead. Her scenes with Corenswet are the best in the film, and the movie loses its snap when she’s not around.

That’s unfortunately for a substantial amount of time. Luthor traps Superman in a pocket universe (enter Metamorpho, among others) and the eccentric members of the Justice Gang — Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl — are called upon to lend a hand. They come begrudgingly. But if there’s anyone else that comes close to stealing the movie, it’s Gathegi, who meets increasingly absurd cataclysm with wry deadpan.

The fate of the world, naturally, again turns iffy. There’s a rift in the universe, not to mention some vaguely defined trouble in Boravia and Jarhanpur. In such scenes, Gunn’s juggling act is especially uneasy and you can feel the movie lurching from one thing to another. Usually, that’s Krypto’s cue to fly back into the movie and run amok.

Gunn, who now presides over DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, is better with internal strife than he is international politics. Superman is often called “the Kryptonian” or “the alien” by humans, and Gunn leans into his outsider status. Not for the first time, Superman’s opponents try to paint him as an untrustworthy foreigner. With a modicum of timeliness, “Superman” is an immigrant story.

And more so, if you’re a woman to be at the top of the game continuously for two and a half decades in media and politics is no mean feat. But that is also somewhere where destiny and luck has had a role to play.”

Alia Bhatt’s mother, actor-director Soni Razdan, filed a police complaint on January 23, 2025.

Alia Bhatt’s former personal assistant has been arrested for cheating the actor of Rs 77 lakh. Vedika Prakash Shetty, 32, is accused of committing irregularities worth Rs 76.9 lakh in Ms Bhatt’s production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Private Limited, and her personal accounts.

This fraud, police have said, was committed between May 2022 and August 2024. The matter came to light after Alia Bhatt’s mother, actor-director Soni Razdan, filed a complaint with Juhu police on January 23. Thereafter, a case was registered under sections relating to criminal breach of trust and cheating and police started looking for Vedika Shetty.

According to police sources, Vedika Shetty worked as Ms Bhatt’s personal assistant from 2021 to 2024. During this time, she handled the actor’s financial documents and payments and planned her schedule.

The investigation has revealed that Vedika Shetty allegedly prepared fake bills, got Ms Bhatt to sign them and siphoned off the money, police sources have said. She told the actor that the expenses were for her travel, meetings and other related arrangements.

Vedika Shetty, the probe has found, used professional tools to make these fake bills look authentic. After Ms Bhatt signed them, the amounts were transferred to the account of her friend, who would then route the money back to Vedika Shetty.

For 4-5 hours, you are wearing big designer’s clothes, voh pur mahine ka kharcha hai humara (that is our monthly expense). I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was. Days after the slew of speculations and reports surrounding Paresh Rawal’s casting in Hera Pheri 3, the veteran actor has seemingly confirmed that he will indeed star in the third installment of the cult franchise. Earlier, it was Rawal himself who had confirmed his exit from the film.

During his recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Rawal opened up on the chatter surrounding Hera Pheri 3 and said, “There is no controversy, really. When a project is so loved by audiences, you need to handle it with extra care. The public has showered us with love, and that comes with responsibility. We must never take that for granted. We owe them our best work.”

The police said that the actor was observing a fast on Sunday for satyanarayan pooja performed at their residence. Her husband told the police that she collapsed after consuming food that was prepared a day before.

The police have recorded statements of the actor’s husband and family members. While collecting panchnama from her residence, the police found two boxes containing anti-ageing tablets, skin glow tablets and vitamin tablets. The actor’s family said that she had been taking the tablets without doctor’s consultation but it never caused any problem to her, said a police officer.

Actor and model Shefali Jariwala, best known for her breakout appearance in the iconic music video Kaanta Laga, passed away in Mumbai late Friday and her last rites were performed on Saturday with close family members and friends in attendance.

Jariwala was rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Andheri by her husband, Parag Tyagi, where doctors declared her dead. The cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to Mumbai Police, her autopsy was conducted and the opinion about her cause of death has been “reserved”. The body was sent to the civic-run Cooper hospital for post-mortem. As the cause of death is not yet clear, the Mumbai police have registered an accidental death report (ADR).

“The autopsy has been done, but the opinion on the cause of death has been reserved. Based on preliminary information, it appears to be a natural death, and there was no foul play,” a police official said.

Speaking about the preparations, Randeep credited his friend Brigadier Sanghwan, who was serving with the Assam Rifles, for helping him plan the ceremony. He revealed that he travelled to Manipur with a group of 10–12 people and admitted they were largely unfamiliar with the region’s customs and rituals.

During a conversation with Midday, Randeep stated that although Lin tried to brief him about the rituals with videos ahead of time, Randeep said he was too busy editing his film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar to pay much attention.

Describing the wedding ceremony, Randeep said, “I had a helper with me, more like a tutor. So once the groom puts his thing on his head, you can’t tilt your head. You go to the ceremony and they give a bowl and an umbrella. They then put you in a holding area where everyone is supposed to come and look at you, and you are supposed to look very dignified. And once you are in the mandap, which has got all these midang players summer-salting, and all these pandits chanting mantras, you are not supposed to move; they wrap a blanket around you.”

He further said, “So if I sit in rest mode, the helper would correct me and say ‘you have to look the best, you are god today.’ For two hours I had to sit with my back straight and head up. Then I asked what was the bowl for and he said in case you need to pee, you just open the umbrella and pee over there, you cannot move out of there because you are God.”

The actor also mentioned that Lin was not allowed to smile during the ceremony, a ritual symbolic of the solemnity and dignity expected from the bride.

“She got so much scolding. She was smiling and you are not supposed to smile, so messengers would come and tell you ‘Stop smiling’,” Randeep added.

The ratio could go a little lower depending on where the actuals land in the morning, but a 65 percent ratio seems apt for a film of this genre. The numbers are fair for the genre, though not so good for Aamir Khan, who has opened films in the similar genre at much higher numbers.

The dynamics of business have changed in the post-Covid world, which has put limitations on the opening day of films in a rather non-commercial genre, but the positive for Sitaare Zameen Par rests in the fact that the initial reports for the film are on the positive side. The occupancy too is showing gains towards the evening and night shows, setting up the film well for spikes on Saturday and Sunday.

Sitaare Zameen Par has very good advances for Saturday, as the film has already sold 40,000 tickets in PVRInox alone as on Friday at 5.30 PM, and will be looking to close with pre-sales around the 65,000 ticket mark by mid-night. Cinepolis on the other hand has sold approx. 10,000 tickets for Saturday at the same time. For those unaware, Sitaare Zameen Par had sold 38,000 tickets in PVRInox for Friday as on Thursday mid-night, and this is a jump of almost 70 percent in advance booking.

New visuals have now surfaced where Karisma Kapoor is seen consoling her children as they attend the funeral. The actress was seen paying her last respects with her children, as they bid an emotional farewell.

Action movie star Tom Cruise and singer and actor Dolly Parton are among the luminaries selected to receive honorary Oscars this year for lifetime achievements, Hollywood’s film academy said on Tuesday.

Actor and choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas also were selected for recognition by the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

The honorees will receive their Oscar statuettes at the annual Governors Awards gala in November.

Cruise, currently starring in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, was selected for his decades of work in Risky Business, two Top Gun movies and several other films. He was nominated for best actor twice, for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, as well as best supporting actor for Magnolia.

“Tom Cruise’s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all,” Academy President Janet Yang said in a statement.

Parton, a country music singer and star of movies including Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her charitable efforts. Parton’s Imagination Library has provided more than 284 million free books to children over 30 years, according to the organization’s website. She received two Oscar nominations for best song, for the films 9 to 5 and Transamerica.

In Transit review: 9 transgender individuals come together to share their truth in this thoughtful and probing docuseries backed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.

What does it mean to be visibly trans in India? There’s no whataboutery about the fact that India is still largely homophobic; one look at the cases of violence on the LGBTQ+ community is enough to show why. The new four-part docuseries, backed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby Films, attempts to bring together stories of nine transgender individuals across India as they share their lives, hearts, and hopes. It is a vital, sensitively drawn-out portrait of the challenges faced by the trans community in modern India.

Authentic and vital portrait

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti had previously cast trans actor Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju in the second season of Made in Heaven for the new addition to the show, Meher. That character was in a supporting role, adding to the drama and resolving the chaos around the main plot. From there to In Transit, the resolve to showcase the trans community authentically is a noble effort. In Transit is curious but in a careful manner, where the camera is but a medium for these individuals to share their experiences with complete trust. That confidence shows in the way Archana Ghangrekar places the camera and views these people, and in the conviction with which director Ayesha Sood draws out their life stories with a degree of vulnerability.

There is a beautiful moment where Aryan speaks about his desire for a ‘connection’. It arrives after Aryan has shared the story of transition, where the viewer can see the journey he has been through. Another particularly indelible revelation arrives when Rumi, a trans man and a trained classical singer, talks about the difficult relationship with his mother. When he gradually comes to know why his mother, who was a sculptor, behaved the way she did, it becomes an extraordinary moment of surrender and reconciliation. I had shivers all over my body when that moment arrived.

Gender and sexual identity are not the same, and In Transit does well by letting these voices speak for themselves on this concept. There’s something somber about it, in the way these people who have had to fight for their truths all the way through, speak about their desires and hopes. Despite the tears, there are footnotes of hope. The story of Patruni, a gender-fluid drag queen, is insisted carefully here.

The interrogation is nurtured at the idea of giving every desire a name, every experience a definitive call. Even within the community, how must a trans woman perform? How are they expected to behave? These ideas arrive from a deeply heteronormative culture. As these individuals will only take a willingness to unlearn and reorient the ways we look, categorise, and decide.

Final thoughts

This docuseries intelligently positions the multiplicity of trans experience in a country that has extreme inequity due to class divisions. Access to education, the support of parents, and the socio-economic classifications are some of the most important factors that these individuals have to confront. It is more than just acceptance; it is also about access. This is a sensitively told document that never resorts to being complacent in its tone, which is perhaps its biggest accomplishment.

He was the pillar of strength for our family.” Raman Rai Handa is survived by his wife, Kamini Chopra Handa, and daughters Mannara and Mitali. His funeral will be held on June 18 at 1 PM at the Crematorium Ground in Amboli, Andheri West, Mumbai.

Raman Handa worked as a lawyer at the Delhi High Court. He was married to Kamini Chopra, paternal aunt of Priyanka and Parineeti Chopra. The families would often come together for festivals, birthdays, and important occasions. According to Times Now, Raman had been unwell for a few days due to undisclosed reasons.

They live and defend us in such difficult terrain, yet their spirit is incredible—they have smiles on their faces, they’re confident and happy. I thought I was going there to boost their morale, but instead, they boosted mine. During those eight days, I ate with them, asked them about their lives. One night, I even stayed at the border in a bunker. There were six to eight soldiers there, and I don’t think anyone else has done something like that.”

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday presented the state government’s Gaddar Telangana Film Awards 2024 in various categories, including the Best Actor award to Allu Arjun for his performance in the blockbuster movie Pushpa-2.

At a glittering event here Saturday night, Reddy, accompanied by his deputy Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, presented the Paidi Jairaj Film Award (Indian Film Personality) to veteran director Mani Ratnam.

Renowned actor N Balakrishna received the NTR Film Award, while popular actor Vijay Devarakonda was given the award named after veteran Telugu actor Kantha Rao.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM highlighted his government’s vision to make Telangana a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He said the film industry should also witness impressive growth to make a contribution in the vision.

Addressing renowned director SS Rajamouli, who was present on the occasion, he said Hollywood and Bollywood should make Hyderabad their home. The government is ready to support the film industry to realise this, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna thanked the Telangana government for conferring the awards named after late folk singer and balladeer Gaddar.

He appreciated the state government for resuming the presentation of film awards after 10 years.

In his speech, Arjun, who incidentally was arrested in December last year over the stampede at a theatre here where ‘Pushpa-2’ was screened, thanked the Reddy and the Deputy CM for the award.
