With the 94th Academy Awards set for later this month on March 27, it couldn’t be better timing for some of the biggest nominees to hit streaming platforms in March. Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” boasts 10 Oscar nominations, the second most-nominated movie of the year, and it’s finally returning to HBO Max this month to stream after originally debuting on the streamer for 31 days last fall. Steve Spielberg’s seven-time nominee “West Side Story” and Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s four-time Oscar nominee “Drive My Car” are also streaming this month, just in time to boost visibility ahead of the Academy Awards telecast.
Outside of Oscar nominees, new additions to streaming platforms in March include memorable indies from 2021 such as “Mass” and “El Planeta.” Paul Verhoeven’s 2021 festival shocker “Benedetta” is also making its streaming debut on Hulu this month. Love Denis Villeneuve? In addition to “Dune” returning to HBO Max, the director’s “Blade Runner 2049” becomes available on Netflix later this month. Christopher Nolan fans will be able to stream “Dunkirk” on Netflix this month, too.
Check out the full list of the best films new to streaming in March 2022 (and which platforms to stream them on) in the list below.
1.After Yang (March 4 on Showtime Anytime)
Just like the release strategy for “The Humans” last fall, A24 is opening Kogonada’s intimate and heartfelt science-fiction drama “After Yang” in theaters on the same day it premieres on Showtime and becomes available to stream via the network’s Showtime Anytime app. The film stars Colin Farrell as a father figuring out how to mourn the loss of his family’s android in the near-future. From Variety’s review: “This film is precise, with its desaturated palette, meticulous framing and near-mathematical cutting style. And yet, Kogonada’s concerns remain fundamentally human. The movie’s pulse seldom rises above resting, but the director invites audiences to dive as deep as they want to go into the film’s themes, to read subtext into body language, silence and the space between characters.”
2. Drive My Car (March 2 on HBO Max)
Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s “Drive My Car” is the rare foreign-language drama to break out of the international feature Oscar race and earn additional Oscar nominations for picture, director and original screenplay. From Variety’s review: “Haruki Murakami’s short story ‘Drive My Car’ is a sleek, streamlined slip of a thing that nonetheless, in the author’s signature style, packs an awful lot into its lean sentences. It’s a grief-stricken marriage story enfolded in a corrupted friendship study, related in turn via a separate tale of odd-couple companionship, all told in fewer than 40 pages…Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s deft, wise, whisper-soft adaptation of ‘Drive My Car’ never feels like an overextension of its delicate material. Instead, it pursues a kind of cinematic stillness to match Murakami’s plain, serene prose, and takes things suitably slow.”
3. West Side Story (March 2 on Disney Plus)
Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed “West Side Story” adaptation bombed at the box office with just $38 million in the U.S., which makes its arrival on streaming all the more important. Here’s a chance for many viewers to discover the magic of this exhilarating movie musical for the first time. From Variety’s review: “Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ has a brash effervescence. You can feel the joy he got out of making it, and the kick is infectious. Directing his first musical, Spielberg moves into the big roomy space of a Broadway-meets-Hollywood classic, rearranges the furniture (the film’s screenwriter, Tony Kushner, has spiced up the dialogue and tossed out the most cringe-worthy knickknacks), and gives it all a fresh coat of desaturated, bombed-out-city-block, gritty-as-reality paint. He makes it his own.”
4. Dune (March 10 on HBO Max)
Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” returns to streaming on HBO Max this month after originally debuting on the platform for 31 days on the same date it launched its theatrical release last October. The science-fiction epic earned 10 Academy Award nominations this year, including best picture, making it the second most-nominated movie of the year. From Variety’s review: “Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation has a majestic vastness, and most of it actually makes sense, but it’s an act of world-building that runs out of storytelling steam… ‘Dune,’ a majestically somber and grand-scale sci-fi trance-out, is full of lavish hugger-mugger — clan wars, brute armies, a grotesque autocrat villain, a hero who may be the Messiah — that links it, in spirit and design, to the ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ films, though with a predatory ominousness all its own.”
5. Mogul Mowgli (March 1 on HBO Max)
Riz Ahmed followed his Oscar nomination for “Sound of Metal” with this similarly-themed music drama about a a British-Pakistani rapper who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that forces him to face his past, his family and the uncertainty of his legacy. From Variety’s review: “Outside of Ahmed’s seething, spitting, can’t-look-away performance, ‘Mogul Mowgli’ is an atmospheric culture-clash drama that runs on some quite traditional father-son melodramatics…Ahmed’s turn is the substance and subtext here, drawing on his thespian and musical gifts, as well his personal history, to offer an impassioned reflection on the liminal place occupied by many immigrant artists in western culture.”
Kanye West has been barred from performing at the Grammy Awards due to his “concerning online behavior,” a rep for the artist confirms to Variety. Reps for the Recording Academy and CBS, which present the Grammys, did not immediately respond to Variety‘s requests for comment on the claim early Saturday.
Courtesy Revolt
West’s rep cited a report in the Blast posted late Friday claiming that the artist’s team received a phone call Friday night informing him he had been “unfortunately” removed from the lineup of performers for the show due to his “concerning online behavior.” While West, who is up for five 2022 Grammy Awards, was not among the first list of performers announced on Tuesday, he may have been a planned performer. A rep for West sent Variety a link to that story, saying only “This is confirmed”; the rep did not respond to requests for further information, although the Blast report states, “Our sources say Kanye’s team isn’t surprised by the decision.”
Nor should they be. While Academy reps did not respond to requests for comment, there are many reasons why a Kanye West performance on live network television would be a prohibitively risky proposition. Based on his social media posts and activity in the past few months alone, he might use the stage to continue his online harassment of Pete Davidson, his estranged wife Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend; he could attempt to lobby public sentiment for custody of his children; he could make some statement in support of accused sex offender Marilyn Manson or unrepentant homophobe DaBaby, both of whom he has featured at his recent concerts or listening events; he could make more misguided statements about slavery or revive his stumping for former President Trump. Conversely, he could use the platform to do something that isn’t self-serving, self-referential or sheer trolling, like when he unexpectedly said “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” during a televised Hurricane Katrina fundraiser in 2005.
Kim Kardashian, who reportedly told a court that Kanye West’s social media postings caused her “emotional distress,” seems unconcerned about her ex’s 24-hour Instagram ban. West, 44, was momentarily shut off of his Instagram account earlier this week and was unable to post, comment, or send messages for 24 hours, according to TMZ.
West’s most recent abusive social media behaviour was a racist insult for Trevor Noah.
“Kim found the suspension to be fair, but her reaction wasn’t very dramatic. She didn’t make a big deal out of it and joked that she needed a break for a day. All of Kanye’s posts have been exhausting for her though,” a source tells PEOPLE of the mother of four, who was declared legally single on March 1. The source further added, “It’s very impressive how calm and collected she is able to stay. She is very happy with [boyfriend] Pete [Davidson]. Her kids are doing great.” However, Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February, after almost seven years of marriage. North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm are their four children.
Meanwhile, West’s most recent abusive social media behaviour was a racist insult placed on Daily Show presenter Trevor Noah’s Instagram page. West took aim at the comedian, 38, who has commented extensively on the Donda artist’s divorce from Kardashian, as well as how the rapper has handled her throughout their divorce. Noah then brought up some more recent instances that he regarded as troubling, such as West’s music video for “Eazy,” in which Davidson, 28, was buried alive in claymation.

Director Vivek Agnihotri, who has been in the news for his latest directorial The Kashmir Files, has been given ‘Y’ category security cover by the Central government. Read on to know details…
‘The Kashmir Files’ director Vivek Agnihotri gets ‘Y’ category security
The Central government has accorded ‘Y’ category security cover to ‘The Kashmir Files‘ director Vivek Agnihotri with CRPF cover pan India, government sources said on Friday.
The film, which focuses on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s, has been mired in controversy since its release on March 11 with the BJP and Opposition parties having conflicting views on it.
At a BJP Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for the recently released film ‘The Kashmir Files’ against attempts, he claimed were being made to discredit it. Bringing out the truth in the right manner, said the PM is always in favour of the nation. ‘Kashmir Files’, directed by filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri revolves around the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the year 1990.
On the other hand, Opposition parties are criticizing the film for showing “half-truth”.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party for backing the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ and said that that if the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ can be made on Kashmir, then ‘Lakhimpur Files’ can also be made.
Bachchhan Paandey is a film that should ideally have been an email that lands straight in our spam folder. That would have spared us the torture of sitting through some seriously deranged stuff.
There is a film within a film here. Kriti Sanon plays Myra who wants to direct her own movie. Fuelled by insults heaped on her by her film’s director and producer along with encouragement from her father to “go for it”, she decides to wait no more.
Some quick rounds of discussions lead her to the menacing one-eyed gangster Bachchhan Paandey of Baagwa. Too scared to approach him directly she camps with her friend Vishu (Arshad Warsi). They spy, snoop, sneak a peek and poke to get some information on the man who has a glass eye, kills like a maniac and has a crazy appetite for gore.
Could this “film within a film” idea actually be a spoof on how some filmmakers go about their business in Bollywood? Could be, but yours truly is so exhausted sitting through this mind-numbing utterly nonsensical affair that it’s tough to decipher any method to the madness.
We witness some random killings, people falling dead all around, fountains of blood oozing out and a gang rivalry of sorts where every adversary of Bachchhan Paandey is eventually decimated. Why would Akshay Kumar who lately has very consciously curated an image of a good citizen on screen play such a repulsive outlaw? Further, to do it in a film that adds no value at all? Obnoxious circumstances keeps piling up one after another.
“Mujhe bhai nahi godfather bolte hain” (They call me The Godfather, not brother) bellows Bachchhan Paandey. Songs with lines “Maarunga toh maa ki kasam marr jaayega. Fire hoon main… jal jaayega,“ (If I hit you, I swear on my mother, you’ll die. I’m fire, you’ll burn to ashes).
Abhimanyu Singh, Sanjay Mishra, Prateik Babbar as his sometimes comic, sometimes dreaded sidekicks try keeping busy while we rake our brains to understand the point of it all.
Bachchhan Paandey becomes yet another film that shows complete disregard for Arshad Warsi’s talent and brilliant comic timing. He has been given little to do previously and still every time he says his lines the film is imbued with charm.
Kriti Sanon wasn’t given a breathing character. She was provided with instructions and to her credit she follows through and looks radiant. An added bonus.
To explain Paandey’s proclivity to gore and violence we have a whole flashback thread complete with a Jacquline Fernandez giggling, rope walking and walking on stilts! Apparently, that’s what tourists do. Sigh! “Kya ye oonth hain“ (Is this a camel?) she asks pointing at camels to which Bachchhan Paandey replies “gadhe hain” (They’re donkeys). We nod. We all are.
Akshay sleepwalks through the film as if he has already given up on it. Pankaj Tripathi makes a joke of himself really by even agreeing for this. We don’t laugh with him, we don’t laugh at him, we are simply pained to see him put himself through this. Playing a Gujarati, it’s the first time we see such an inauthentic performance from Tripathi.
Overall Bachchhan Paandey is neither funny nor intriguing. He always looks like a character that can exist nowhere but in the futile imagination of some makers who think audiences like to pay money to dumb themselves down.
Arshad Warsi calls Circuit from Munna Bhai MBBS a ‘stupid’ role, reveals the reason he agreed to do it
Whenever we talk of Arshad Warsi’s film career, the one film and the one role that always comes to everyone’s minds instantly is that of Circuit. The actor played a sidekick to Sanjay Dutt in the Munna Bhai series and we have to admit that Arsha d and his role went on to become quite popular. In fact, even today Arshad is remembered for Circuit as much as Sanjay Dutt is remembered for playing Munna. But, in a recent interview, the Bachchhan Paandey actor opened up about playing this iconic role.
In an interview with Indian Express Arshad Warsi emphasized how important it is for him to know who is the lead actor of the film. He revealed that the only reason he said yes to Munna Bhai was Sanjay Dutt. He said that even Rajkumar Hirani knew that it is a stupid role and it was nothing on paper. In fact, the actor went on to reveal that even Makarand Deshpande had said no to Circuit. Arshad said that he listens to any script purely as an audience member and it should be something that the audience would love to watch, irrespective of any genre.
KANYE West has been “BANNED” from Instagram for at least 24 hours.
This comes after a marathon of violent threats towards his ex, Kim Kardashian, her new beau Pete Davidson and other stars.
A spokesperson for Meta told TMZ that Kanye’s recent posts “violated Instagram’s policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying.”
The outlet was told his account has been suspended for 24 hours.
The 44-year-old won’t be able to post, comment, or send direct messages.
The spokesperson for the parent company of Instagram (Meta is also known as Facebook) continued that they’ll “take additional steps if further violations happen.”
Earlier on March 16, the musician took to Instagram to share a fan comment and a message of concern for Kim, 41.
The father-of-four posted a screenshot of a follower’s comment reading: “The way Skete used Kim’s marital status to address Kanye was a sneak diss to her & she didn’t even catch it.”
Kanye captioned his post, seemingly slamming the comedian’s past drug use: “Im really concerned that SKETE will get my kids mom hooked on drugs He’s in rehab every 2 months.”
The fan comment referred to a leaked harsh text exchange between Pete and Kanye earlier this week.
The latest chapter in their months-long personal war began with the Saturday Night Live star apparently reaching out to the rapper.
“Yo it’s Skeet,” Pete texted, referencing the nickname Kanye gave him. “Can you please take a second to calm down?

This year’s Oscar nominations are the result of a record number of votes, according to the Academy—and that makes sense, since the number of voting members expanded to more than 9,400, the most ever. They cast their ballots in a year that began in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, showed signs of loosening up as theaters reopened and big movies like Dune, No Time to Die and Spider-Man: No Way Home opened theatrically, and then grew more restrictive as the Omicron variant sent infection rates rocketing up. Choosing among 276 films in the main categories and hundreds more documentaries, international films and shorts, the voters came up with a slate to reflect another weird year. This special guide will take you through all 23 Oscar categories and introduce you to every nominee—even the ones that need no introduction.

When I was 18, when I joined the film industry, I got so absorbed, I wanted to learn so much, I wanted to do so much that I somewhere — today I realise — people who were close to me, I couldn’t give them time the way I wanted to. I have given all my time to my work and I made that relationship very strong. I thought my family was with me anyway. I just wanted to win the hearts of the audience at the time. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao separated in 2021 after being married for 15 years.
Aamir Khan has refuted rumours that he and Kiran Rao parted ways because he was allegedly dating someone else. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, who were together for 15 years, announced their divorce on July 3, 2021.
In a tell-all interview with News18 India’s Kishore Ajwani, Aamir spoke candidly about his highly-publicised divorce from Kiran last year. While talking about her split from Kiran, Aamir recalled that several years ago, she had told him that he was simply not interested in his family.
“She would tell me that even when we discuss something as a family, I’m always lost somewhere. She said I’m a different kind of person. She very sweetly said, ‘I don’t want you to change because if you change then you wouldn’t be the same person who I fell in love with.’ I’m in love with your brain and your personality. So, I would never want that you change. But today when I reflect on what Kiran told me seven years ago, I would say that I have seen a lot of changes in me in the past 6-7 months,” Aamir said.
In what came as a shocking news, it is reported that Sonam Kapoor’s father-in-law Harish Ahuja’s export-import firm has been duped of over Rs 27 crore. The news came into light after Faridabad police had busted a gang of highly-sophisticated cybercriminals. According to media reports, the accused were duping Ahuja’s Faridabad-based firm, Shahi Export Factory by misappropriating the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (ROSCTL) licenses. The media reports also suggested that the Faridabad police arrested 10 people in the case so far.
To note, the ROSCTL licenses play a key role in the case. The ROSCTL licenses, which are similar to digital coupons worth several lakh rupees, are given to the export film in the form of some incentives which in turn entitles them to some rebate in custom and excise duties.

“You are more than just a dog”, reads one of the lines from what seems to be deceased Army Ranger, Riley Rodriguez’s (Eric Urbiztondo) letters to his Army trained dog, Lulu. The quote does hold truth in the film as we follow Channing Tatum and Lulu across towns on a road trip that promises to be a ride filled with misadventures. For canine lovers, Dog is a film that will instantly tug at your heartstrings thanks to the ably captured journey of bonding between an Army Ranger and a PTSD-scarred dog who find comfort in each other amid uncertainty. The film co-directed by Tatum alongside his Magic Mike collaborator Reid Caroli consists of every crowd-pleasing element in the book that would be required for a film starring Tatum and an adorable dog as his co-star.
Much of the honest emotions that flow onscreen from Tatum’s side in Dog seem to be a result of two main things, one that the canine character is named after the actor’s own deceased dog and second that Tatum after producing the documentary War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend, was truly enthralled by what he saw regarding Army trained dogs and was convinced that if he had to take up a leading role after his four-year acting break, it had to be this one and it’s a right decision because Dog is a film that will appeal to one and all.
Dog follows Jackson Briggs (Channing Tatum), an Army Ranger who is tired of making sandwiches for minimum wage and desperate to see action again after being benched by the army following a brain injury that induces seizures. Hell-bent on returning to ground zero once again, Briggs tries hard to convince his commanding officer into signing off on his transfer to a war zone. While his CO decides to help out Briggs, there’s one assignment he must finish in order to be dispatched again and it involves driving Lulu, a Belgian Malinois (played by three dogs, Britta, Lana and Zuza) and an Army dog who served in Afghanistan to the funeral of her previous handler and Briggs’ co-ranger, Riley Rodriguez’s (Eric Urbiztondo). What seems an easy job for Briggs (Tatum) at the start begins to soon turn into a nightmare as he’s unable to handle Lulu who’s going through an equally traumatic time as him.
From ruining his glorious threesome in Portland to discovering a pot farm to chewing up his entire car seat, Lulu’s never-ending misadventures during their road trip leave Briggs more than upset and keep him away from truly trying to bond with her at any point. Although following a meet with pot grower (Kevin Nash) and his psychic wife (Jane Adams), Briggs gets a first-hand experience of how Lulu can be as good a dog as any if you let her in and listen to what she wants, the duo’s dynamic drastically changes. From jumping into the bathtub together to eventually Lulu eating treat out of his hand while watching a Grey’s Anatomy re-runs, the duo finally bond. Although goodbyes can be hard and hence on completion of his assignment, Briggs must now bid adieu to Lulu who according to the army has lost her ability to serve again. Following a road trip with the canine that in turn heals him as well, will Briggs let Lulu go is what is left to see.
