Oracle Layoffs: Oracle began another round of layoffs, with affected employees receiving early-morning emails informing them that their roles had been eliminated as part of a broader organisational change, according to a Business Insider report.
The latest job cuts began on Monday, with affected workers also taking to LinkedIn, Reddit and Blind to share news of their layoffs. Oracle has not disclosed the number of employees affected by the latest layoffs.
According to the internal notification, employees were told that their roles had been eliminated as part of a “broader organisational change”. The notification day was also their last working day, according to the report.
The latest cuts come at a striking time for Oracle, which is simultaneously carrying out a major expansion of its data-centre infrastructure to meet surging demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.
Oracle Spending Billions On AI Infrastructure
Oracle spent $28.5 billion on capital expenditure in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, more than three times the $8.5 billion it spent during the same period a year earlier. The company retained its full-year capital expenditure forecast of between $90 billion and $95 billion as it accelerates investments in data centres and AI infrastructure.
Demand for Oracle’s AI cloud services also surged as the company said it signed more than $30 billion in additional AI cloud contracts during the quarter, taking its total remaining performance obligations- its contracted revenue backlog- to $664 billion.
However, the aggressive expansion is putting significant pressure on Oracle’s finances. The company reported negative free cash flow of $5.4 billion during the quarter as spending on data centres continued to rise. Oracle’s first-quarter revenue increased 30% year-on-year to $19.3 billion, while cloud infrastructure revenue jumped 121% to $7.4 billion.
Oracle Already Cut 21,000 Jobs
The latest layoffs follow a much larger workforce reduction carried out by Oracle during fiscal 2026. Oracle’s global workforce declined by around 21,000 employees, or 13%, during the fiscal year ended May 31. The company had approximately 141,000 employees at the end of the period, down from around 162,000 a year earlier, according to its annual filing.
