The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume next week after what is likely to be a week’s break. The tournament is set to be extended with the date for the final likely to be changed. The summit clash, which was originally scheduled to take place on May 25 could also be shited out of Kolkata.
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume next week following the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The league will re-start with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which was originally set to take place on Friday (May 9).
As things stand, the playoffs and venue are scheduled to take place in the same venues with Hyderabad hosting the qualifier 1 and eliminator, while the second qualifier and final will take place in Kolkata. However, the venue of the summit clash could be shifted to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium if there is a rain threat at the Eden Gardens.
The final is now set to take place either on May 30 (Friday) or June 1 (Sunday).
For those unversed, the league was brought to a stop on Thursday (May 8) as the game between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was brought to a halt after 10.1 overs in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor as the Indian armed forces launched a counter-strike on multiple terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in the aftermath of the barbaric terror attacks in Pahalgam, India on April 22.
So far, PBKS and DC have not been handed one point each, hinting that the match will be played again between both teams, although more details on that are still awaited.
At the stoppage of the league, the 2025 IPL playoff race was heading towards a heated ending. Gujarat Titans (GT) and RCB are currently in the top spot ,with both teams having 16 points each, while PBKS are third with 15 points. Mumbai Indians (MI) currently occupy the 4th spot with 14 points, while Delhi Capitals (DC) are fifth with 13 points.
