The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi issued a passenger advisory, announcing that IndiGo flight operations are gradually returning to normal following the airline’s disruption, which resulted in over 1,000 flight cancellations on Friday and over 550 flights on Thursday.
Disruptions from IndiGo’s flight cancellations continued into the fifth day on Saturday with multiple flights cancelled across the country. The airline, struggling with widespread operational chaos for the past four days, recorded over 1,000 cancellations on Friday and 550 on Thursday as well.
Meanwhile, Delhi Airport issued an advisory stating that operations are gradually returning to normal, while a petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking the Chief Justice’s intervention over passenger losses caused by the suspension of flights.
OPERATIONS RETURNING TO NORMALCY: DELHI AIRPORT
Delhi Airport has issued an advisory stating that flight operations are gradually returning to normal and urged passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.
“We are glad to update that Indigo flight operations are now steadily resuming and getting back to normalcy following the brief disruption. Please check the status of your booking and flight before leaving from home,” Delhi Airport said in a post on X. On Friday, the airline had cancelled all domestic departures from Delhi airport until midnight.

PETITION FILED IN SUPREME COURT
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking Chief Justice of India’s intervention after passengers suffered losses due to IndiGo flight suspensions. The plea urges the Court to take suo motu cognisance, direct the Civil Aviation Ministry and DGCA to submit status reports, and constitute a special bench for immediate hearing.
Meanwhile, the DGCA has attributed the disruptions to IndiGo’s “misjudgment and gap in planning” in implementing new pilot duty-hour regulations.
INDIGO CEO PETER ELBERS APOLOGISES
The airline’s CEO Peter Elbers firmly indicated that normal operations are expected to resume sometime between 10 and 15 December.
“December 5 was the most severely impacted day, with the number of cancellations well over 1000. I extend our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience it has caused to our customers. It will take some time to return to a full normal situation, which we anticipate between 10 to 15 December,” Elbers said in a video message.
TAKING STRICT ACTION: CIVIL AVIATION MINISTER
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu attributed the chaos to IndiGo’s poor crew management and its handling of the DGCA’s new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules. In an interview with ANI, the minister explained that the disruptions led the Civil Aviation Ministry to provide IndiGo with temporary relief from certain regulatory requirements.
“We have formed a committee which will inquire into all this so that they can establish where things went wrong and who did it wrong. We are taking strict action on this, so that whoever was responsible into this needs to pay for it,” Naidu said.
