Delhi Police on Tuesday handed over another case registered against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch for investigation. Two cases were registered following the entry of CJP leaders into Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar.
The Connaught Place case was transferred to the Crime Branch on Monday (October 19), and the Jantar Mantar case was transferred on Tuesday (October 20).
As per Delhi Police, on October 13, Das, Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other CJP members allegedly entered Jantar Mantar, no longer a designated protest site, by trespassing through private property. Cops deployed at the spot intervened and tried to stop them. All 14 people were detained, and two FIRs were registered.
Das and Ranka were sent to five days of judicial custody on October 14 by a Special Executive Magistrate for breaching peace bonds. However, their judicial custody was extended by two days on Monday.
On Tuesday, the CJP’s legal team moved the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent hearing on the bail pleas of Ranka and Das. In a post on X, CJP’s Legal Affairs Head Ratna Singh wrote, “Saurav and Ashutosh should not spend a single minute behind bars.” She called the state’s decision “political games” that, she said, could not curtail the CJP duo’s liberty.
