The song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the upcoming release KD: The Devil, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, has come under fire for its suggestive lyrics and choreography. The film is written and directed by Prem. His wife, former actor Rakshita, has now broken her silence on the controversy and shared that she wants to understand why the selective outrage over this song only.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Rakshita penned a series of notes to address the matter. She began, “Yes yes I have seen it all. I know you guys are tagging me in random people’s posts. the fact is I know what’s written. I know what’s happening. My stand on whether I am for it or against it doesn’t matter, when songs like Peelings, Dreamum Wakeupum, like Choli ke Peeche or 100s like these came out it seemed fine. When an entire film came out talking about how the actors just spoke about have sexual intercourse throughout the film it seemed fine. but one song creates massive news. still not justifying, just asking so I can understand this.”

She went on to add that just because of one song, the writer’s entire body of work cannot be questioned and diminished. “One song doesn’t mean he is a horrible writer or does everything for gimmicks? Wrong. Just because some films don’t do well as the others doesn’t mean he is a bad maker… wrong. Do you have the rights to question him? Yes you do have the rights to ask him why, yes you do. Do you have the rights to abuse him? Nooo you don’t. When you abuse him or like some random lady spat badly saying it was personal?”

‘Today people are watching more bloodshed films, sexual content in films’

Rakshita went on to add that people should have some ‘basic knowledge’ how to talk about others. She went on to add that there have been countless times when ‘random people’ have spoken badly about her. She added, “Songs are made everyday, bad, good, provocative, special numbers. Today people are watching more bloodshed films, sexual content in films, everything pretty openly. Prem is a Kannadiga as much all of you are. You all have the rights on him, to question him, to tell him what is right and what is not, but saying anything about his past work about how gimmicky he [is], let me tell you something today selling a film to an OTT, a channel, is the biggest challenge for a Kannada director… he finds it extremely difficult to reach at any heights or even close to other cinema markets. Even our people, bringing them to theatres is a very tough job. This is not just our story, this is every film in sandalwood.”

She went on to share that abusing someone for their work shows the ‘other reality of social media’ and that should not be the case. She then said that everything will be fine in a couple of days and asked for some time from fans. She concluded, “Thanks for all the concerned ones. I am truly grateful. I am here and so is Prem. KD is our baby and we will do what’s right at the end and only the right. Trust us and smile more, love and love only.”

Recently, Prem’s wife, former actor Rakshita, took to her Instagram stories and penned down a long note. She slammed those abusing her husband online and called out selective outrage.

On March 15, the makers of the upcoming Kannada pan-India film KD: The Devil launched the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke starring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. While a section of viewers appreciated Nora’s high-energy performance, a significant number of social media users criticised the track, calling out its lyrics as “vulgar.”

Recently, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also issued a notice over the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in the song. Additionally, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal also filed a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police, asking for legal action against the makers of the track. He alleged in the complaint that the track has obscene lyrics not suitable for public consumption, especially given the fact that the track is available on various digital platforms.

Filmmaker David Dhawan has collaborated with Govinda in as many as 17 films, and a majority of them turned out to be major box-office successes. However, many directors and Govinda’s co-actors have often complained about him arriving late on set and making others wait. Now, in the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, David Dhawan defended Govinda against the allegations of being late on set.

David praised Govinda, calling him one of the best actors he has ever worked with. He said, “Here I want to tell you, log bolte hain na late aata hai sets par, aaj kaun nahi late aata hai? Woh aata hai, apna kaam khatam kar ke jaata hai (People say that he comes late to the sets, but tell me who doesn’t arrive late these days? He arrives, completes his work and then leaves).”

The filmmaker added, “And you will not believe it. He would show up and ask for his scene. It would be a four-page scene. He would go through it thoroughly while I was setting up the shot. He said, ‘Don’t set it up yet. Do one thing. Here’s the scene. Watch me perform. I’ll do it in one take.’ This was in Partner. He did all kinds of acrobatics in that scene; you can’t imagine. Then he told me to edit the scene however I wanted. Unbelievable. Govinda is incredible.”

David made his directorial debut with the 1989 film Taaqatwar, which featured Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Neelam Kothari, and Anita Raj. After this, they went on to work together in several successful films, including Shola Aur Shabnam, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Biwi No. 1, among others.

The duo became known for delivering multiple box-office hits together. However, after Do Knot Disturb, they never worked together again.

The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang has claimed responsibility for a recent firing incident in Panipat and issued a death threat to popular Bollywood rapper and singer Badshah through a message circulated on social media.

According to reports, unidentified assailants opened fire outside an office linked to alleged hawala operations on Assandh Road in Panipat. Soon after the incident, a message surfaced online in which individuals claiming to be associated with the gang took responsibility for the attack.

In the message, two persons identifying themselves as Randeep Malik and Anil Pandit, reportedly based in the United States, claimed they had orchestrated the firing. The note alleged that the targeted office belonged to individuals involved in illegal hawala transactions and accused them of sending money abroad, thereby harming the country’s economy.

The message began with religious slogans and warned people engaged in hawala activities to stop immediately or face severe consequences. It stated that those running such operations had already been warned earlier but failed to heed the warning, adding that the Panipat firing was “just a trailer” and that more action could follow.

The note also contained a direct threat aimed at Badshah. In the message, the singer was accused of attempting to “spoil Haryana’s culture.” The post referred to an earlier incident in 2024 in which the gang allegedly tried to intimidate him at a club, claiming it was merely a warning. It further threatened that the next time the attack would be more serious.

Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, is one of India’s most well-known rappers and playback singers and has delivered several hit tracks in Bollywood and the Punjabi music industry.

The development comes at a time when the singer is already facing legal trouble, with reports suggesting that the Haryana Police may take action against him in a separate matter.

However, Aiden Markram’s South Africa managed to thwart the challenge of the West Indies, and India also won the remaining two games, leading to the Proteas and India qualifying from Group 1 of the Super 8s for the semis. A few days after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, Vaughan said that the Proteas should have looked to eliminate India, as the hosts were the best side in the tournament.

“I tell you, who I think is the stupidest team of the tournament? South Africa. Because if South Africa had allowed the West Indies to beat them in the Super 8s, India would have been knocked out. I’m just saying – if they had cleared them out, the juggernaut that was coming would have stopped,” Vaughan said on the Stick to Cricket podcast.

“By winning that game, they allowed the juggernaut to go on. India then beat Zimbabwe, then the West Indies in a kind of quarterfinal, and then England. South Africa had to play Zimbabwe next, and they even rested three players for that match,” he added.

‘Eliminate the best team’

The 51-year-old said the best way to keep the best team in the tournament from winning the T20 World Cup was to knock them out, and hence the Proteas clearly missed a chance to do the needful.

“There are some issues running around in the recent past, isn’t it?” Vijay said, addressing cadres at a Women’s Day event organised by his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). “I see all of you busy fighting those allegations and getting hurt. In fact, I get hurt seeing that you get hurt. I will take care of all that. Let’s get involved in people’s problems. Don’t get hurt about that problem — it’s not worth bothering about. Be confident. The case was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Sector 20, Panchkula, on Friday after one Abhay Choudhry alleged that the said song and its video included elements that were obscene and disrespectful and contained objectionable language and inappropriate gestures.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered against rapper-singer Badshah in Haryana’s Panchkula district, near here over the alleged obscenity, objectionable material and insult the dignity of women in his recently released song “Tateeree’’.

The case was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Sector 20, Panchkula, on Friday after one Abhay Choudhry alleged that the said song and its video included elements that were obscene and disrespectful and contained objectionable language and inappropriate gestures.

The complainant further alleged that the video featured girls in school uniforms and this portrayal was objectionable and offensive that sent a negative message to the society.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Haryana police have booked Badshah – real name Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia – under Section 296 of BNS as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Lara recounted a harrowing experience at a studio where she heard explosions and witnessed missiles being intercepted midair. Currently, the wife of tennis veteran Mahesh Bhupathi is eager to wrap up her commitments and return home to the safety of Mumbai.

“We have been in Dubai since the start of this Israel-Iran war, what’s being termed the Israel-Iran war. UAE, Dubai, has been my home now for the last three years. I have spent a considerable amount of time here. I was actually shooting on the 28th at a studio in Dubai,” she said, adding: “We started hearing the explosions overhead, ran out of the studio, and saw missiles being intercepted. It’s been a few, I can’t lie, stressful days. I have my daughter here with me, Mahesh was away for work, he wasn’t in Dubai thankfully.”

The actor also spoke about witnessing fighter jets overhead and hearing loud booms. “But I just want to say that we are nervous, and it’s been scary. Lots of fighter jets flying overhead, lots of loud booms. Though we live in a villa in a very safe neighbourhood, the windows shake, the house and the doors rattle, and it’s unnerving. But I haven’t felt unsafe, not even once,” she added.

While expressing gratitude to the UAE government, she emphasised, “I just want to say that the UAE government has done an incredible job. I think, for every single person – I won’t speak for anybody else – we felt really looked after. We felt wanted, we felt protected, regardless of our nationality or where we’re from.”

“We feel like we count, we matter. The UAE government, as a resident, as somebody living in this city, is making sure they do everything in their power to protect us and keep us safe. I’m amazed. My gardener has been showing up every day mowing up my lawn, watering the plants,” the actor went on.

At the end of the video, Lara spoke with tears in her eyes. She said, “I’ve so much respect and admiration for just ordinary, normal people who don’t have a choice of looking at wanting to get out, who are keeping this country running. We are actually looking at flights; there aren’t too many, but there are some, Etihad and Emirates. But we are looking at flights to try and get back to Mumbai. More so, because I think the kids are a lot more nervous about this. We are as well, as grown-ups. We keep it together for the kids. So we are looking at flights and trying to get out by some means.”

Lara also spoke about the conflict between India and Pakistan last year. “I was in India when India and Pakistan went to war. We saw how well our country protected us there. It’s the same here,” she said.

“No civilian deserves to live in fear or to be caught up in a war that is destabilising the entire region. I hope common sense will prevail. Better judgment will prevail with everybody who’s making these decisions. Until then. We continue,” she concluded.

But they were later informed that March 3 witnesses a Chandra Grahan (lunar eclipse), which is considered inauspicious for new beginnings. The inauspicious period is said to be from 9:39 am to 6:46 pm. Trailers are usually launched around noon, and this timing falls within the window. Hence, the team decided to postpone the trailer release.”

With this change in the film’s trailer release date, fans may get a glimpse of the upcoming action thriller on March 5 or 6. It will be released digitally, skipping a grand event.

After the massive success of Dhurandhar, everyone is now eagerly waiting for the film’s sequel, which will hit theatres on March 19. In a big relief for the producers of ‘The Kerala Story 2’, a division bench of the Kerala High Court stayed a single bench order for an interim stay on the release of the movie for 15 days. The decision has cleared the way for the movie’s release, scheduled for today.

A single bench led by Justice Bechu Kurien Thomas passed the interim order while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the clearance granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The bench observed that the petitioner’s apprehension regarding the film is “probably genuine” and asked the makers to wait for the court’s final decision.

A bench of justices Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and P V Balakrishnan passed the order on the appeal moved by the film’s producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah late Thursday night, hours after the movie’s release was stayed. The bench had reserved order in the appeal on Thursday night.

Shah, in his appeal to the high court, had claimed that the film does not harm or denigrate the state of Kerala or any religious community. “The film only portrays a social evil,” his lawyers had told the court.

The producer also told the court that if the film’s release was put on hold, it would “financially finish” the producers as the movie is set to be screened in 1,500 theatres in India and over 300 abroad on February 27.

Why Was ‘Kerala Story 2’ Release Delayed?

A single-judge bench on Thursday stayed the release of the film on the grounds that there was a manifest non-application of mind to the requirement of law by the censor board, CBFC. The judge also said that “the possibility of communal disharmony or denigration of a community also being prima facie involved in the movie”, its release without scrutiny by the higher authorities would be legally improper.

The bench said the CBFC did not follow the guidelines properly while granting certification, and there seems to be a clear disregard of the applicable law, requiring this Court’s intervention. The court further noted that the teaser and trailer had the potential to disturb communal harmony and directed that the film should not be released until the legal arguments were fully addressed.

The sequel has been facing backlash over its portrayal of Indian Muslims and allegations that it makes exaggerated claims. A petition was filed by biologist Sreedev Namboodiri in the Kerala High Court, seeking a stay on the film’s release and public exhibition.

Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has strongly criticised the new penal code introduced in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan that permits domestic violence against women. He raised concerns about the legal sanctioning of abuse and its far-reaching implications for women’s safety and rights.

Javed Akhtar on Saturday reacted to the newly-introduced penal code in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan that, the veteran lyricist and screenwriter noted in an X post, has legalised wife beating without bone fracture. Akhtar expressed outrage over the new penal code that says a wife is liable to be jailed if she goes to her parent’s place without the husband’s permission. He requested religious leaders to condemn the penal code.

The penal code classifies society into multiple tiers, with punishments differing based on one’s position within the hierarchy. Under the 90-page document, signed by the group’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, religious leaders are placed at the top, followed by elites, the middle class, and the lower class.

In an X post, Akhtar wrote: “Talibans have legalised wife beating, but without any bone fracture. If a wife goes to her parents’ place without the husband’s permission, she will be jailed for three months. I beseech the Mufties and mullas of India to condemn it unconditionally because it all is being done in the name of their religion (sic).”

Aamir, who shares a close and warm bond with Salim Khan and his family, arrived quietly at the hospital to enquire about the 90-year-old writer’s health. After spending some time inside, Aamir and his girlfriend, Gauri, were seen leaving the hospital together.

Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday morning after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The veteran writer underwent a minor procedure and has now been put on a ventilator, a doctor revealed on Wednesday.

While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dr Jalil Parkar, who is treating the writer, revealed that Salim had a minor haemorrhage. “There was minimal brain haemorrhage. A small procedure was done this morning and it was accomplished. He is fine and stable but is still on a ventilator. By tomorrow, hopefully, we will take him off the ventilator. All in all, he’s doing quite well. Keeping his age in mind, the recovery time is longer.”

The doctor also said that Salim Khan’s blood pressure was “high” and that he was experiencing some “jerks” when he was admitted to hospital. “He was given immediate care at the hospital,” he added.

Gopal Agarwal said that he met Rajpal Yadav through a common friend, MP Mithilesh Kumar. Yadav told them about his film Ata Pata Laapata, which was almost complete, but he didn’t have enough funds. The actor requested money from the businessman, saying “everything would go to waste” if he didn’t secure funding.

While the businessman was initially reluctant to give the money, Yadav’s wife, Radha, sent him several emotional text messages after which he agreed.

Talking about the agreement, the businessman said that the agreement was done in his office in Delhi, along with a personal guarantee by Yadav and his wife. He said that the agreement clearly stated that there would be no impact on the money due to the success or failure of the film.

Three supplementary agreements made

Three supplementary agreements were also made after the original agreement as Rajpal Yadav kept saying he did not have enough funds.

The businessman said that he went to the court after learning that a music of the film was released at an event, after which the Delhi high court put a stay on the film till Yadav complies with the businessman.

Rajpal Yadav reportedly told the businessman that he would be able to repay the money only after the film’s release. Following this, Madhav Gopal Agrawal agreed to a settlement and had the court’s stay on the movie’s release lifted. However, the film failed at the box office.

Actor Rajpal Yadav will be a free man today when he walks out of Delhi’s Tihar Jail after he was granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court in the Rs 9-crore debt case.

After the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor received temporary relief from the court, the businessman who loaned the principal amount of Rs 5 crore to Rajpal Yadav to finance his 2012 film Ata Pata Laapata has now broken silence on the matter.

In an interview with News Pinch, businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal spoke about his first meeting with Rajpal Yadav, how he gave the actor a loan of Rs 5 crore, and what has happened in the last 14 years in the long-running debt case.

In the initial days of the case, Madhav Gopal Agrawal said, he went to Rajpal Yadav’s house and “cried in front of him like a child” because he gave him money from the funds he himself had borrowed from others. He repeatedly begged Rajpal Yadav to tell him the date on which he could get the new agreement drafted.

According to Madhav Gopal Agrawal, it was clearly written in the agreement that there will be no impact on the money due to the success or failure of the film, its censor certificate or any other issue. Rajpal Yadav will have to return the set amount on time. Rajpal Yadav also gave a personal guarantee, he claimed.

The businessman said he gave a loan and that it was not an investment, as there is no personal guarantee or cheque in investment.

When he didn’t get his money on time, Madhav Gopal Agrawal contacted Rajpal Yadav. At the time, the actor said that he doesn’t have funds, following which supplementary agreements were made three times and new cheques were given.

When megastar Amitabh Bachchan launched the music of the film at an event, Madhav Gopal Agrawal found out that according to the agreement the negatives and money were supposed to be given once the film was complete. That’s why he went to court to halt the release of the film.

What’s In The Viral Rajpal Yadav Clip?

In the video, Rajpal can be heard saying, “Salman bhai bade bhai ki tarah hain, Salman bhai ke sath aaj baith ke, andar se bhot Khushi mehsoos hoti hai,” while praising the superstar for helping people in the industry. The Court noted that Dagar has made out a case on originality though the authorship aspect needs to be examined.

The Supreme Court on Friday told music composer AR Rahman that there should be “some acknowledgment” of Dhrupad vocalist Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar with respect to the song Veera Raja Veera from the film Ponniyin Selvan II [Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar Vs AR Rahman].

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted that Dagar has made out a case on originality though the authorship aspect needs to be examined and merely because Dagar performed first does not automatically confer authorship on him.

“In originality, you have made out a case and on authorship we will examine. First performance does not necessarily mean authorship. Your case is more of an inference from the first performance that it is authorship. But the other side brought in the Khusro version etc. Thus, this needs independent evidence from you that this was not there before the dagar tradition of singing dhrupad in sur thal,” the Court told Dagar.

The Bench also told Rahman that the Dagarwani tradition’s contribution needs to be acknowledged.

“The predecessor of the defendant were a part of the Dagarwani tradition. The originality of the tune is undisputed. If these gharanas would not have contributed to the shastriya sangeet, do you think these modern signers would have managed,” the Court told Rahman’s counsel.

“This is performed as a performance in 1991 by Gundecha brothers and many other times but he never objected. But during our rendition he objected,” Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared on behalf of Rahman, said.

“See there should be some acknowledgement. They are traditional worshippers of the classical music. He is not in the competitive domain. They want respect and recognition,” Justice Bagchi said.

Singhvi then sought time to take instructions.

The Court then proceeded to adjourn the case to be heard next on February 20, Friday.

The Court also sustained the direction of the High Court single-judge to Rahman to deposit ₹2 crore with the Registrar General of the High Court, pending disposal of the suit.

The banner has also warned of further legal action if its demands are not met within the stipulated time.

Tamil superstar Dhanush has landed in legal trouble. A production house named Thenandal Films has sent a legal notice to him, demanding compensation of Rs 20 crore over alleged delays linked to a long-pending film project.

Now, Pandit Ravi Shankar’s daughter and acclaimed sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar has addressed the claim, clarifying that Sharma was never formally initiated as her father’s disciple.

In a recent conversation with Humans Of Bombay, Anoushka spoke about the expanding horizons of the sitar and its growing presence across diverse audiences in India and globally.

“I think it’s really wonderful to see the sitar brought into its horizon the way it has, whether that’s within India or abroad. Having lots of people taking it forward is a wonderful thing. He learnt very intensively with someone very dear to me, one of my father’s senior disciples Parimal Sadaphal, and he had a couple of lessons with my father, very informally, with Parimal uncle also in the room.”

She further explained that the families have shared a long association over decades.

“We knew him from childhood because he was the son of our instrument maker Sanjay Rikiram Sharma. So somehow that has gone blown up into some story of him being his last disciple or the youngest disciple, which isn’t true. But he is super talented and deserves all success with or without that story.”

Anoushka’s remarks place the emphasis on mentorship and association rather than formal discipleship, while firmly separating fact from popular narrative.

What Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma Has Previously Said

In earlier interviews, Rishabh had shared his own account of how Pandit Ravi Shankar entered his life as a mentor.

Speaking to Bani Anand, he recalled how a video of his early performance reached the maestro.

“My father Sanjay Rikiram took over my Guruji’s sitar work after my grandfather’s demise. From my first live concert, a video reached Guruji. He saw that video and called my dad and said, ‘Is this your son you are telling me about?’ My father said yes. Guruji said, ‘Whenever I am in Delhi, please bring him over.’ Once we were there, Guruji was like, ‘OK, take out your sitar and play for me a little bit.’ I played and then he picked up his guitar and played the same composition.”

He described the moment as life-altering.

“After that he turned to my parents and said, ‘With your permission, your kid has a lot of talent, I would love to be his guru and teach him,’ and I saw my parents’ jaw drop to the floor because God himself had come down and said, ‘Can I teach your child?’ So my dad didn’t have the courage to ask him. For him to offer to be my guru was amazing.”

According to Rishabh, this marked the beginning of his lessons.

Yadav’s manager also addressed reports about the actor’s niece’s wedding, which is scheduled for February 19. He said the wedding had been finalised two to three months ago and that the recent developments in the case could not impact the family’s plans.

“The wedding was planned almost two to three months in advance, and we could not let the current situation affect it. It’s just about a week away, and the family felt they should neither call off nor postpone the celebrations. In fact, it gives them a sense of normalcy during these tense times. As I said, we are hopeful that Rajpal ji will be back home soon. The family is praying that he is able to attend the wedding festivities,” he said.

He added that everyone is expecting a positive outcome from the bail hearing on Thursday.

President Donald Trump claims investigators are very close to cracking the kidnapping case of Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie.

While speaking with reporters on Air Force One Friday night, Trump said investigators have made a lot of progress, and may even have a suspect.

Savannah Guthrie took to social media again on Saturday with an emotional plea for her mother Nancy Guthrie’s alleged captors.

Film-maker Vishal Bharadwaj clarified through an affidavit that the film is not a biopic on Husain Ustara but merely a work of fiction with the necessary prominent disclaimer present in the film.

A Mumbai court on Friday refused to stay the release of filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming Shahid Kapoor-starrer movie O’Romeo [Sanober Shaikh v. Sajid Nadiadwala & Ors.]

A City Civil Court in Mumbai dismissed the interim application by Sanober Shaikh, daughter of late journalist and encounter informer Hussain Shaikh alias Hussain Ustara who moved the Court seeking to stop the release of the film.

The interim application was filed by the Shaikh against producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s company, director Vishal Bhardwaj and others associated with the film.

The movie starring Shahid Kapoor is slated to hit theatres on February 13.

Additional Sessions Judge HC Shende clarified that his observations are prima facie and will not influence the final adjudication of the suit, which has been adjourned to March 12 for filing of written statement (response by the defendants).

Sanober Shaikh claimed that the movie is a biopic inspired by her father’s life and that the makers have misappropriated his persona and defamed him without consent. She moved the court seeking to stop the release till her suit is finally heard, and also sought a pre-screening of the film.

She alleged that the film was based on the life of her father, portrayed in the book ‘Mafia: Queens of Mumbai’, and would violate personality, privacy and reputational rights of the deceased and his family.

In a detailed affidavit filed on February 6, Bhardwaj termed the suit “false, frivolous, vexatious and misconceived.”

He raised preliminary objections of non-joinder of the producer company, lack of locus standi, and gross delay in approaching the court. He elaborated that the film had been announced in December 2024 and completed in August 2025, all of which were reported in the media widely.

“The instant suit filed by the plaintiff is nothing but a coercive tactic so as to exert pressure on the owners of the film to extract a financial settlement at the eleventh hour before the release of the film”, Bhardwaj claimed.

He pointed out how Shaikh had sent multiple legal notices demanding between ₹2-5 crores for alleged violation of privacy and personality rights, which demonstrated how Shaikh considered monetary compensation as an adequate remedy.

Bhardwaj also stressed that O’Romeo is not a biopic but a work of fiction merely inspired by themes from the book and supported by a prominent disclaimer stating that any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, was purely coincidental.

It was further contended that under settled law, personality, privacy and defamation claims do not survive the death of an individual.

Additionally, neither the deceased nor his daughter ever challenged the 2011 book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ in over a decade of its circulation.

With the interim plea now dismissed, the film can be released even as the suit continues before the court.

MRA Marg Police registered an FIR against Dhurandhar 2 location manager Rinku Valmiki for allegedly flying a drone without mandatory permission in Mumbai’s high-security Fort area. The incident occurred during a shoot featuring actor Sanjay Dutt. Police said the act violated the Commissioner’s prohibitory order on unauthorized drone operations.

MRA Marg Police have registered a case against the location manager of the film Dhurandhar 2 for allegedly flying a drone without the mandatory permission in South Mumbai’s high-security Fort area.

FIR Details

An FIR was registered on February 1 at MRA Marg Police Station against Rinku Rajpal Valmiki (39), the film’s location manager, under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly disobeying lawful orders issued by public authorities.

According to police, a drone was used during the shooting of a scene without obtaining official clearance. The violation came to light during the film’s shooting schedule in the Fort area, which is considered a sensitive and high-security zone.

Sources said that actor Sanjay Dutt and the entire film crew were present at the location on February 1. It was the third day of the shooting schedule. Since January 30, parts of the historic Fort locality had been specially dressed up for the shoot to resemble an old, crowded Pakistani street.

The incident reportedly occurred between 2 pm and 2.30 pm near Kohinoor Hotel on Bora Bazaar Street, Fort. Despite an existing prohibitory order banning drone operations in the Brihanmumbai area, the accused allegedly flew the drone without legal permission.

I wasn’t interested in films to begin with. I did this one only because I wanted to sing a song written by the greatest poet-writer of all time, Gulzar saab. That the song was to be composed by the legendary Anu ji was another dream come true. And that was it. ”

He added, “I really don’t know why I was perceived as a threat. I just went to have fun and do my job to the best of my ability. Getting to work with the amazing Sush, Tabu and Sanjay was my reward. Being directed by the wonderful Meghna is a cherished experience of a lifetime. I have nothing but beautiful memories, and I am so proud of this ahead-of-its-time film. In fact, now that it has become such a success on television, it makes me very happy and grateful. The truth is, I know why my brother Arijit is quitting film playback. I was there years ago, and I chose my own path — the path that I know Arijit will now walk on.”

Palash further recalled that he was nominated for several Best Newcomer awards that year but did not win any. While he missed out on trophies, he said the love from fans meant everything to him.

The interim order was passed in a defamation suit filed by Khan over a series of interviews and podcasts in which Kashyap allegedly made derogatory comments about the actor and his family.

The City Civil Court at Mumbai on Friday restrained filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and YouTube hosts of the channel Bollywood Thikana from making or circulating defamatory statements against Bollywood actor Khan and his family [Salman Khan v. Abhinav Kashyap & Ors.].

The interim order was passed in a defamation suit filed by Khan over a series of interviews and podcasts in which Kashyap allegedly made derogatory comments about the actor and his family.

The channel, owned by Komal Mehru and hosted by Khushboo Hazare, had published interviews on YouTube and other social media platforms.

Justice PG Bhosale observed that the statements flagged by Khan were “defamatory, derogatory, abusive and insulting in nature and harmful to the reputation of the plaintiff.”

The Court held that such remarks lowered Khan’s image in the eyes of the public.

Hence, it rejected Kashyap’s claim of protection under free speech.

“Each individual has his privacy and image to be protected. The argument that Kashyap has a right to freedom of speech and expression cannot be accepted,” the Court said.

Accordingly, the Court restrained Kashyap and the hosts from making, uploading, or circulating any defamatory or slanderous content concerning Khan or his family on social media.

On the limits of freedom of expression, the Court said that “nobody can make and nobody should make defamatory statements against the family of anybody.”

On Friday, the Jamshedpur court ordered that provisions related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and other offences be invoked against the aforementioned celebrities.

Others have also been named in the case. The complainant has alleged that the actors were responsible for luring unsuspecting people towards the scheme with promises of 15 per cent monthly interest.

The complainant had invested over 30 lakh rupees in the company. The firm, on the other hand, has claimed that it lost the investors’ money as a result of huge financial losses.

Last month, Chander Bhushan Singh and his wife, Priyanka, both directors of Maxizone Touch Pvt Ltd, were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate as part of the wider probe into the company and its activities.

The complainant has alleged that actor Ranveer Singh’s actions were deliberate, malicious, and intended to insult religious faith, outrage religious feelings, and promote disharmony among communities.

A complaint has been filed against actor Ranveer Singh at a Bengaluru police station, accusing him of hurting religious sentiments by allegedly mocking the Chavundi Daiva tradition. The complaint relates to an incident during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on November 28, 2025.

According to the complaint, Singh allegedly mimicked the divine expressions associated with Panjurli/Guliga Daiva in a crude and humorous manner while on stage, and referred to Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost” in the presence of actor Rishab Shetty, the lead of Kantara: Chapter 1. It further claims that Singh continued the act despite being requested not to perform any Daiva-related portrayal.

The complainant, Bengaluru-based advocate Prashanth Methal, has said that he is a devotee of Chavundi Daiva, which is worshipped in the traditional Bhoota Kola rituals of Coastal Karnataka and is also his family deity. He alleged that Singh’s actions were deliberate, malicious, and intended to insult religious faith, outrage religious feelings, and promote disharmony among communities.

Methal emphasized that Chavundi Daiva is revered as a guardian spirit representing justice, protection, and divine feminine energy, and holds deep religious and cultural importance in Coastal Karnataka. He said that describing the deity as a ghost is offensive and amounts to a serious insult to Hindu beliefs.

Padma Awards 2026: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday unveiled the names of recipients who will receive the prestigious Padma Awards, the country’s civilian honours. President Droupadi Murmu approved the conferment of 131 Padma Awards, comprising five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards.

In the list of awardees, 19 were women and six were from the category of foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI. At least 16 people were awarded posthumously.

The Padma awards, among the country’s highest civilian honours, are conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines / fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

What response are you getting for Taskaree?

Great stuff so far! I like to surround myself with people who would give very constructive criticism, and they are always honest; they have all loved it. People have binge-watched it in one night, and not with the intention of doing it; they just felt they would watch it through the weekend, but it’s one of those shows you start once, and you don’t want to stop. I have seen that for myself. I started it yesterday, but by default, I had a heavy day with promotions, so I had to watch the last two episodes today. It’s just a show that keeps you hooked.

You play the role of a customs officer. So, for the prep, did you meet any real-life customs officers?

The way sales started yesterday, it seemed like the Sunny Deol starrer would be aiming for 200-250K final sales at national chains, but now 150K seems more probable.

Border 2 is recording good pre-sales at the box office. The military action drama, directed by Anurag Singh, sold around 36,000 tickets in the top two national chains, PVRInox and Cinepolis, for the first day of advances. The sales will hit the 40,000 mark by tomorrow morning. The film is expected to see a surge in its advances closer to release, possibly tomorrow onwards.

While the numbers are healthy, expectations were considerably higher given the legacy of the Border franchise and the nostalgia attached to it. The way sales started yesterday, it seemed like the Sunny Deol starrer would be aiming for 200-250K final sales at national chains, but now 150K seems more probable. In comparison, Gadar 2 had sold 274K tickets in national chains.

Headlined by Sunny Deol, the movie is projected to take an opening in the 30s. As per Pinkvilla Predicts, Border 2 is targeting an opening in the vicinity of Rs. 30 crore to Rs. 37 crore, with a pinpoint forecast of Rs. 32 crore net at the Indian box office.

Besides Sunny Deol, the much-awaited war action drama stars an ensemble cast that includes Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, Anya Singh, and others. Backed by Nidhi Dutta and Bhushan Kumar, Border 2 is among the biggest bets of Hindi cinema this year.

Earlier in December, China’s Global Times newspaper claimed, “A Chinese expert said on Monday that Bollywood films at most provide an entertainment-driven, emotionally charged portrayal, but no amount of cinematic exaggeration can rewrite the history or shake the PLA’s determination to defend China’s sovereign territory,” as reported by news agency PTI.

“The film has also drawn other controversies online, with users pointing to issues such as the appearance and costumes of extras, actors’ hairstyles that do not match their military roles or the extreme cold implied in the storyline and most importantly, a portrayal of events that does not align with the facts,” the report read.

Punjabi singer B Praak has received a Rs 10 crore death threat, allegedly from a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, with police launching a probe in Mohali.

Punjabi and Bollywood singer B Praak has received a death threat demanding Rs 10 crore, allegedly from a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, prompting a police investigation in Mohali.

According to the complaint, a call was made to Punjabi singer Dilnoor, who is associated with B Praak. Dilnoor received two calls on January 5 but did not answer them. On January 6, he received another call from a foreign number. When he answered, the conversation sounded suspicious, and he disconnected the call. Shortly after, a voice message was sent to him.

In the audio message, the caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi and demanded Rs 10 crore for B Praak. “Pass this message to B Praak that we want 10 crore. You have one week’s time. Go to any country you want, but if anyone associated with him is found nearby, we will cause damage,” the caller said. He added that if the demand was not met, they would “reduce him to dust.”

Following the threat, Dilnoor submitted a written complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, on January 6. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

How excited or nervous are you for Happy Patel?

Very excited! Because it’s my first big-screen Hindi release after 7 years. The last Hindi film that released on the big screen was Karwaan. After that, this is my first Hindi movie in the theatres. So, very excited!

While you have been part of the slice-of-life stories, Happy Patel looks like a hardcore comedy film. So, how easy or difficult was it for you to get into this genre?

A Singapore court was told that singer Zubeen Garg was severely intoxicated when he drowned off Lazarus Island after refusing to wear a life jacket. Police said Garg went swimming alone during a yacht party and later went limp in the water. A post-mortem confirmed drowning as the cause of death, with no foul play suspected.

In a major development in the Zuben Garg case, a Singapore court was told on Wednesday that the singer was “severely intoxicated” and drowned off Lazarus Island after declining a life jacket. Notably, Singapore police reiterated that they do not suspect any foul play in his death.

“At the time, he was also severely intoxicated and several witnesses saw him trying to swim back to the yacht when he went limp and began floating with his face in the water,” Channel News Asia reported, citing the investigating officer.

Garg was at a yacht party on 19 September when he drowned, a day before he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival in Singapore.

The court was further told that the 52-year-old had a history of hypertension and epilepsy, with his most recent recorded epileptic attack occurring in 2024.

However, it remained unknown whether he had taken his prescribed epilepsy medication on the day of the incident, as eyewitness accounts were insufficient to confirm this.

The singer had initially worn a life jacket but removed it and later refused to put on a second one offered to him, the chief investigating officer told the court at the opening of the inquiry, Channel News Asia reported.

Police told the court that their probe revealed Garg and around 20 others on board the yacht, including friends and colleagues, had consumed snacks, drinks, and alcohol during the outing.

Reportedly,Garg was seen drinking alcohol, with one one the eyewitnesses claiming he consumed several cups of liquor, including gin and whisky.

According to the chief investigating officer’s reconstruction of events, Garg later went for a swim during which he removed his life jacket.

About Dharmendra’s death

Dharmendra passed away on November 24 last year at his residence in Mumbai. He was 89 years old. The actor was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier in the month after a health scare, and was recuperating at home. He was cremated in Mumbai on November 25.

His sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol organised a prayer meet in Mumbai on November 27, which was attended by several prominent names from the industry, including Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. However, Hema Malini and Esha Deol did not attend the event. Later, it was revealed that Hema Malini and her daughters had organised a separate prayer meet at her Mumbai residence on the same day.

On Monday (January 12), the makers approached the Supreme Court, challenging a Madras High Court division bench order that stayed a single judge’s direction to grant the film a UA certificate.

Addressing the censor-court row—which has stalled the film’s release until January 21—Jason Shah told Screen, “I was really excited that the film was releasing on the 9th. I am not 100 percent sure about the certification or what goes on. I have never fully understood the process; it’s not my department.

“But religion and politics always have something to do with movies. Whoever is voted in as the ruling party has been given the country in their hands to decide what happens. Your voting causes these kinds of decisions, so if you have done that, then also sit back and be happy.”

Jason also shared that films and actors are often targeted for manufactured smear campaigns in this era of technology-driven creativity.

“Freedom of speech with technology is the deadliest combination of them all,” he said.

“As an actor, you also put yourself in the line of fire and accept that you are a public figure up for public scrutiny. If you don’t like it, don’t be an actor. A lot of actors look at the money, fame, and all the nice things, but they also need to be ready to get scrutinized from head to toe. People will say what they feel about you when they pay for it, so why not?” he asked.

The producers approached the Supreme Court following the Madras High Court’s interim decision to halt implementation of its earlier single-judge order, which had instructed the CBFC to issue a UA certificate.

The division bench passed the stay after the Censor Board sought an urgent hearing on the same day the original direction was delivered.

Tamang is survived by his wife Geeta Thapa and four-year-old daughter Ariah Tamang.

New Delhi: Prashant Tamang, who rose to fame as the winner of Indian Idol 3and was praised for his turn as a cold-blooded assassin in Paatal Lok 2, died on Sunday following a cardiac arrest. He was 43.

Tamang’s close friend, singer Mahesh Sewa, told PTI that the singer-actor died at his residence in Janak Puri.

“He (Tamang) passed away this morning around 9am due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Delhi. He was taken to the hospital by his family but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. I’m shocked by his untimely demise. I spoke to him a few days ago and he was hale and hearty,” he said.

“His body is still at the hospital. The family is yet to decide whether to perform the funeral in Delhi or Darjeeling,” he added.

The news of Tamang’s death was first shared by another friend Rajesh Ghatani on social media.

“My heart is heavy while writing this very sad news!! May you live in Baikuntha !! Heartfelt tribute Prashant brother,” Ghatani wrote on Facebook.

Tamang was born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling into a Nepali-speaking Gorkha family. His father served with the West Bengal Police and died while in service, after which Tamang left school to take up his father’s post.

Encouraged by friends, he auditioned for the reality singing show “Indian Idol” in 2007, where he went on to win the competition. Tamang’s victory triggered unprecedented celebrations across the Darjeeling hills, Sikkim and parts of Nepal.

‘Jana Nayagan’ Censor Dispute: Madras HC Directs CBFC To Grant U/A Certificate, Appeal Filed

The Madras High Court on Friday ordered the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a U/A certificate to the much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring actor-turned-politician Vijay, clearing a major legal hurdle in its release. The film, which had been scheduled to hit cinemas on January 9, 2026, faced last-minute postponement after the CBFC failed to issue its censor certificate in time, prompting its makers to move the High Court.

The dispute began when the examining committee of the CBFC recommended a U/A certificate for Jana Nayagan after the producers complied with suggested cuts and modifications. However, one member of the committee later submitted a complaint to the Board chairperson alleging issues with brief portrayals of religious sentiments and other sensitive content. The chairperson then referred the film to a Revising Committee, delaying the certification process. The filmmakers argued this was arbitrary, noting the film had not been publicly screened and challenging how a complaint could be raised under such circumstances.

During the hearing, Justice P.T. Asha questioned why the film was sent for re-examination after it had already been communicated that certification would follow subject to cuts, effectively reopening settled matters. The court found in favour of the producers and directed the CBFC to issue the U/A certificate forthwith, emphasising that a late complaint should not derail an otherwise concluded process.
