Uttarkashi Cloudburst: Reportedly, at least four people have lost their lives while many are feared missing, after a deadly flash-flood wiped out half a village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi. Horrifying screams of victims running for their lives, rumbling sounds of homes and hotels washing away and terrifying videos of a deadly flash floods wiping out half a village is all that is echoing on the internet, in media channels and inside the mourning hearts of Indians– as the country is witnessing yet another bone-chilling destruction due to heavy monsoon. Half of the Dharali village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi has now been reduced to rubble as a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst wiped out a massive portion of the settlement. Agonizing videos of debris and flood water destroying anything and everything on its path were shared on social media, which went viral- leaving the internet numb.
Reportedly, the cloudburst happened over the upper reaches of the Kheer Ganga river near Harsil. The tragedy happened today- Tuesday, August 05. As per reports, at least four people have lost their lives while many are feared missing or buried under debris. The settlement is full of locals, devotees, hotels, homes and homestays, as it is the main stopover on the way to Gangotri.
Reportedly, an Army team from Harsil has been rushed to the spot. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on the other hand, is taking stock of the situation. “The news of heavy losses due to a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) area is extremely sad and painful. SDRF, NDRF, district administration and other related teams are engaged on war footing in relief and rescue operations,” he was quoted as saying.

“People are being evacuated to safe locations on a priority basis, and the situation is being continuously monitored. The administration is fully alert and providing all possible assistance to the affected citizens,” he added.
