UNREASONABLE DOUBT Lindsay Clancy jury members break silence on ‘arrogant’ 12th holdout & say argument spiraled into screams & name-calling

  • September 9, 2026

THREE jurors on the grueling Lindsay Clancy murder trial have spoken out about the deliberations that resulted in screaming matches over a holdout juror.

Three of the 12 jurors breaking their silence comes after Clancy’s murder case ended in a mistrial following allegations that one juror refused to follow instructions on a crucial law that could’ve acquitted her.

Clancy was on trial in Massachusetts after she strangled her three young children Cora, Dawson and Callan to death in January 2023.

She sought an insanity defense, arguing she suffered from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and didn’t know right from wrong.

The jurors, including the foreperson who told the judge one person expressed doubt but refused to acquit Clancy, unloaded their frustrations with the lone holdout in a bombshell interview with Boston NBC affiliate WBTS-CD.

“He admitted he had reasonable doubt and I started filling out the forms, I was so excited,” the foreperson said.

The foreperson claimed the holdout juror, a man, said, “But I’m still not going to say that she’s not guilty by reason of insanity.”

The jurors’ names were have not been released due to an order signed by Judge William Sullivan on Friday that requires names to be withheld for 14 days.

The jury had five options to deliberate for Clancy’s fate, where they could either find her guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder or manslaughter.

Otherwise, Clancy could have been acquitted or found not guilty by lack of criminal responsibility, known as an insanity defense.

The deliberations got so intense, resulting in loud arguing that the six alternative jurors could hear the screaming matches from outside the room, the three women told WBTS.

There was also reportedly some name calling, but jurors were determined to come to a verdict, and supported one another throughout the week of deliberations by sharing laughs, hugging one another and encouraging self-care.

The second juror who spoke with WBTS called the holdout juror “arrogant.”

“He really did not take anything that anybody said,” she said.

She said the man asked questions about medications prescribed to Clancy, and that jurors reviewed toxicology reports and records from the South Shore Hospital, where she was treated following her suicide attempt after the killings.

The jurors only asked the judge one question during their deliberations, and it was to see the knife Clancy used to cut herself after the killings and her prescription pills.

Jurors had around 300 exhibits of evidence to review in the case following five weeks of testimony.

One of the three female jurors revealed in the interview that some of the jury members were nurses.
