A high-level meeting between Union ministers and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) delegation is scheduled for Friday after 12 pm, with senior leadership from the Centre set to represent the government during the talks, sources told CNN-News.
According to the source, the meeting will focus on addressing the ongoing student-led protests and grievances surrounding the NEET exam controversy, as the government looks to open dialogue and find a way forward in the standoff.
Sources further said the Centre is extending its dialogue efforts to ease tensions and reach a breakthrough. The government is also aiming for an early resolution to minimise disruptions and ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament during the ongoing session.
While the CJP delegation is seeking concrete action on student concerns, government sources indicate that ministers will urge an end to the street protests as talks proceed.
CJP calls for dialogue at ‘neutral venue’
The development comes after the CJP earlier today called for nationwide peaceful protests on Friday, urging people to hold demonstrations in every district. The party had rejected the government’s earlier offer for talks, maintaining that any dialogue should take place only at a neutral venue.
The CJP said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on action against paper leaks did not address its demand for accountability or its call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy.
The government had made another attempt to hold discussions, with Union minister Jitendra Singh saying a meeting could be arranged either at Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s official residence or office.
