In a unified statement, leaders from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, and Norway labelled the move “unacceptable”, warning that the strategic expansion risks permanently destroying the viability of a two-state solution.
Why the E1 Plan Sparks Global Alarm
The E1 corridor covers a strategic 12-square-kilometre area situated between East Jerusalem and the Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Adumim. International diplomats and human rights organisations have long identified the zone as a major flashpoint.
- Fragmenting the West Bank: Constructing settlements in E1 creates a continuous urban block connecting East Jerusalem to Ma’ale Adumim.
