Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plane was almost hit by a drone while taking off from Moldova, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told NRK. Zelenskyy travelled to Oslo from Moldova on Tuesday evening to attend the funeral of King Harald on Wednesday. Støre said the incident highlighted the dramatic situation the Ukrainian president continues to face amid the war.
“His plane was almost hit by a drone as it was taking off from Moldova. That is the reality he is facing,” Støre told NRK.
Prime Minister’s Office did not provide more information about the incident.
Zelenskyy Discusses Ukraine’s Air Defense Needs
After arriving in Oslo, Zelenskyy went directly from the airport to the Plaza Hotel, where he met with members of the Norwegian government to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
Støre said he had spoken with Zelenskyy several times over the previous 24 hours. Before Wednesday’s funeral, the Ukrainian president again visited Støre’s office.
Støre said he asked Zelenskyy how his night had been. According to the Norwegian prime minister, Zelenskyy said it had not been a good night because he had been on the phone receiving updates about where missiles had hit.
