A truck veered off the main highway and crashed into a house in Patrasahi village, Chandbali area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district early Thursday morning. The truck was reportedly using Google Maps to navigate through dense fog.
According to sources, the accident occurred near Digachhia Chowk on the Bhadrak-Chandbali main road while the truck was en route from Cuttack to Dhamra port.
Due to the thick fog, the truck driver could not clearly see the road signs and turns, so he attempted to find his way using GPS data. This led the vehicle into a narrow village lane.
Realising his mistake, the driver tried to reverse out of the narrow lane, but the truck collided with the asbestos-roofed house of Ramesh Das. The collision partially damaged the house, but fortunately, the family escaped unharmed.
Villagers then informed the police, who arrived at the scene and seized the truck for investigation.
Police attributed the accident to low visibility due to dense fog and the driver’s reliance on Google Maps navigation despite being unfamiliar with the local route.
