Train With Ex-UK PM Boris Johnson Aboard Narrowly Escapes Russian Drone Attack Near Ukraine Border

A Russian drone struck an evacuated Kyiv-Warsaw train just in front of a special carriage carrying former British PM Boris Johnson and European advisers.

A train carrying ex-UK PM Boris Johnson was nearly struck by a Russian drone.

A train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and advisers to European leaders was forced to stop near the Polish-Ukrainian border after Russia launched a drone attack at the railway crossing.

Trucks caught fire and a gas station complex was damaged after a Russian drone struck the Yahodyn–Dorohusk border crossing, according to reports. Johnson, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s adviser Günter Sautter, Sweden’s former prime minister Carl Bildt, European security advisers, diplomats and German MPs were travelling through the area on a special train.

The train was forced to stop after a drone warning. Conductors woke the passengers and prepared them for evacuation. However, the alert was lifted shortly afterwards and all passengers were reported safe.

Johnson Calls For More Ukraine Support

Boris Johnson called the attack “random and senseless”, while calling for the British government to provide more arms to Ukraine to help them defend against Russia.

“I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning. What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day – even on civilian railways,” he said on X.

“When are we going to give them the air defences they need? Why won’t we unfreeze Putin’s cash and give it to Ukraine? There is more than €140 billion in a Belgian bank account – and about £10 billion in London. Britain could show a lead.”

Johnson lauded the staff of Ukrainian Railways as “heroic” and expressed confidence that Kyiv would emerge victorious in the war against Russia. “But we will get this dreadful war over much faster if we all get serious and give them what they need and deserve,” he added.
