Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says there’s an issue with truck drivers failing language requirements
SHOCKING details have come to light regarding the driving background of an illegal immigrant who has been accused of killing three people in a crash.
Harjinder Singh reportedly failed his commercial driver’s license test 10 times before finally passing in 2023.
Singh is suspected of making an illegal U-turn with his 18-wheeler truck in Florida, which led a van to crash into the side of it.
The horrific accident left the three people in the van dead.
Singh and his two passengers, Californian men aged 25 and 28, were not injured.
The Official White House Rapid Response said: “This individual is an illegal immigrant who was granted a commercial driver’s license by the State of California — and now, three innocent people are dead.
“He has been arrested for vehicular homicide and an ICE detainer has been issued.”
Since the accident, investigators have claimed to have made startling discoveries about Singh’s background.
In Washington state, the truck driver failed his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) knowledge exam ten times between March 10, 2023, and May 5, 2023, according to The New York Post.
The license is required to drive larger vehicles like tractor trailers or buses.
Singh also reportedly failed an air brakes knowledge test twice.
Washington and California eventually issued Singh a CDL.
One of the most significant areas of scrutiny is Singh’s English-speaking ability.
Singh allegedly illegally crossed the southern border in 2018, and is not a native English speaker.
However, a company in Washington that trained him attests that he could speak English, although he may not speak it proficiently.
On July 3, New Mexico State Police stopped Singh for allegedly driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.
During the interaction, bodycam footage shows that the driver had limited English knowledge.
Despite his lack of English, the driver appeared to be remorseful for speeding.
Investigators have said that Singh’s lack of English proficiency came into play during the fatal crash in Florida back in August.
Florida’s Attorney General’s Office sued California and Washington for granting the CDL to illegal immigrants.
Florida’s lawsuit claims that both states violated the federal safety and immigration status requirements for CDL drivers.
