Robert Lewandowski created history on Wednesday (March 18) as Barcelona thrashed Newcastle 7-2 at the Nou Camp in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League to reach the quarter-finals, where they will play Atletico Madrid. The 37-year-old football legend hit a brace with goals in the 56th and 61st minutes as the Catalans won 8-3 on aggregate despite a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

While Newcastle put up a strong fight in the first half and found themselves 1-1 and 2-2 during the first half before conceding a third goal just minutes before the half-time break, the Polish striker’s brace ensured that the home team had a comfortable evening as he scored the fifth and sixth goal, which took the game away from the Magpies.

Newcastle are the 41st team that the Polish striker has scored against in his Champions League. He is the first player to achieve the incredible feat in Europe’s premier club competition. Lewandowski broke eight-time Ballon D’or winner Lionel Messi’s record in the process.
