After the NEET 2026 exam got cancelled, Pradeep, a 23-year-old student from Gudha Gaudji in Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, hanged himself in the hostel. The cancellation of the medical exam left him “depressed” as he was expecting good marks on his third attempt this year. According to reports, he was preparing for the exam for the past four years, while residing in Sikar.
His family said that he believed he had a strong chance of securing admission to a government medical college this year. However, the news of exam cancellation left him devastated, which made him take this extreme step.
Notably, this is not the first suicide case by a NEET aspirant. Since the paper leak case, there have been multiple cases of suicides across India, raising concerns over the mental health of students who gave NEET exam this year.
Congress leader and Rajasthan MLA Sachin Pilot took to X, voicing out concerns over the suicide cases across the nation. He extended his deepest condolences to the grieving families who have lost their loved ones.
“The suicide of Pradeep, a student from Gudha Gaudji in Jhunjhunu district who was preparing for the NEET exam, is extremely heartbreaking. Similarly, reports of students’ suicides following incidents related to the NEET 2026 paper leak from Goa and Uttar Pradesh are deeply disturbing to the mind,” he wrote.
“The anxiety over the future due to the NEET 2026 paper leak has placed immense pressure on students, and this is directly impacting their mental health. Talented, honest students have toiled tirelessly, only for the exam to be cancelled at the end due to the paper leak,” Pilot added.
