Punjab Police have foiled a major cross-border terror conspiracy by busting an alleged Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-backed terror module linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), officials said on Sunday.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Counterintelligence unit in Jalandhar and the Jalandhar Rural Police. During the operation, police arrested a suspected terrorist and recovered a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 1.3 kg from his possession.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) shared details of the operation on X, stating that the accused was allegedly working at the behest of handlers based abroad. The suspect’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

According to the police, the seized IED was packed with high explosives along with iron shrapnel and ball bearings, indicating that it was designed to inflict maximum damage. Investigators suspect the module was planning a major terror attack in Punjab, and the timely operation helped avert a potentially devastating incident.

Officials said the module was allegedly operating under the directions of Pakistan’s ISI and BKI operatives based outside India. Police believe the network was part of a larger cross-border conspiracy aimed at disturbing peace and law and order in the state.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered at Patara Police Station in Jalandhar Rural under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act.
