Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone to extend wishes on his 73rd birthday.

According to officials, PM Modi “warmly congratulated President Putin on his 73rd birthday and conveyed best wishes for good health and success in all his endeavours.”

During the conversation, the two leaders reviewed the progress of the India-Russia bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed that he looks forward to welcoming President Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit later this year. Putin is expected to visit India in the first week of December for the summit.

PM Modi shared details of his conversation in a post on X, saying, “Spoke with my friend President Putin and conveyed warm birthday greetings and best wishes for his good health and long life. Deeply appreciate his personal commitment to deepening India–Russia ties over the years.”

Putin last week had confirmed his travel plans, saying the visit would likely take place in December. He also praised Prime Minister Modi as a “reasonable and wise leader who defends India’s national interests.” He also said he knows Modi “would not take steps that would humiliate Indians.”
