The Prime Minister had also conveyed his festive greetings on Saturday through a video message, describing Deepavali as a symbol of the triumph of light over darkness and expressing his wishes for peace, happiness and prosperity.

In the video message, PM Modi said the country was illuminated with lights as people celebrated the festival. “This festival of light is a reflection of our resolve against darkness,” he remarked. He also spoke about his annual tradition of celebrating Diwali with armed forces personnel, saying that spending the festival with the country’s jawans had become a regular practice.

PM Modi’s Diwali Tradition With Armed Forces Since 2014

PM Modi’s annual visits to military installations on Diwali have been a regular feature of his tenure since 2014. He began the tradition by celebrating the festival with soldiers at the Siachen Base Camp, one of the world’s highest military posts.

Over the years, he has celebrated Diwali with personnel at several strategic locations, including the Punjab sector near Amritsar in 2015, Sumdoh near the China border in Himachal Pradesh in 2016, and the Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017.

His subsequent visits included Harsil in Uttarakhand (2018), Rajouri along the Line of Control (2019), Longewala in Rajasthan (2020), Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir (2021) and Kargil (2022).

In 2023, he celebrated the festival with soldiers at Lepcha in Himachal Pradesh, followed by Sir Creek in Gujarat’s Kutch in 2024. In 2025, he marked Diwali aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off the Goa-Karwar coast.
