PM gets G7 Summit invite from Canadian counterpart, says looking forward to meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation from his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on Friday to attend the upcoming G7 summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday confirmed his upcoming participation in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, following an invitation from Canadian counterpart Mark Carney.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister Mark J Carney of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month.”

This will be the first official interaction between Modi and Carney since the latter assumed office after a decisive victory in Canada’s federal elections.

The announcement comes amid speculation of PM Modi skipping the summit over frosty ties between India and Canada. Last month, the Ministry of External Affairs, on two occasions, stated that there was “no information” on PM Modi’s visit to Canada for the G7 summit.
