Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who visited the hostel after the incident, claimed that ABVP workers were threatening the two female students.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and National Students Union of India clashed at the COEP Technological University hostel campus on Friday ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatron KI Gunj event in the city.
Police were deployed in large numbers on the campus following the incident.
While ABVP members claimed that Congress workers were forcing female students of the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) to register for Saturday’s Chhatron ki Gunj event, Congress leaders claimed that two female students, who had spoken in support of the event, were confined and threatened inside the hostel by ABVP workers.
Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who visited the hostel after the incident, claimed that ABVP workers were threatening the two female students.
Akshay Jain, president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress (Media Department), said the incident was “extremely unfortunate”. The two female students had raised concerns over their scholarship issues and supported the Chhatron ki Gunj event, he said.
