The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched just before 8 AM to 352 Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, about 50 miles northwest of Raleigh. Upon arrival, officers found multiple people with gunshot wounds.
State investigators said one victim was transported to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound, while multiple other people were killed. Authorities said the incident meets the definition of a mass shooting.
Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), whose crime scene investigators are processing evidence and conducting interviews. Officials said there is no threat to the general public, adding that the incident is contained to the Brooks Road address.
