The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge-sheeted nine alleged ISIS members and supporters for conspiring to radicalise and recruit young people for terrorist activities, officials said on Friday.
The agency alleged that the accused were part of a wider conspiracy to support the banned terrorist organisation and establish a caliphate in India through violent jihad. Social media platforms, including Instagram, were allegedly used to identify, influence and recruit young people.
The charge sheet was filed before a special court in Vijayawada against Mohammad Rehmatullah Shariff, Mohammed Danish, Mirza Sohail Baig, Lucky Ahmad, Jishan Abdul Majid, Mir Ashif Ali, Abdul Salaam, Sharuk Khan and Shaikh Faiz ur Rehman.
Eleven accused and a child in conflict with the law have so far been apprehended in the case, the NIA said.
EXPLOSIVES, WEAPONS TRAINING PLANNED: NIA
According to the agency, the accused attempted to persuade young people to join violent activities and made preparations to manufacture explosives and undergo weapons training.
“It has been established that the accused persons motivated and radicalised gullible youths to join violent terrorist activities and also planned and prepared for making explosives and undertaking weapon training,” the NIA said in a statement.
The accused also allegedly developed and tested a secure application to communicate secretly while preparing for terrorist activities.
The case was initially registered at Vijayawada II Town police station on March 23, 2026, and was later taken over by the NIA.
