An Air India pilot died in Delhi after he was found unconscious in his hotel room in Vasant Kunj, where he was staying during a layover, police and airline officials said.

The Mumbai-based pilot was in Delhi for Boeing 787 conversion training and had checked into the hotel on September 10. He was found unconscious and unresponsive in his room the following evening and was later declared dead at a hospital.

According to airline officials, the pilot had previously worked with Air India Express and had moved to Air India a couple of months ago. He was scheduled to operate a flight early on Saturday.

Brother Alerted Hotel Manager

Delhi Police said a PCR call regarding the ill health of a hotel guest was received at Vasant Kunj North police station on September 11. Police personnel reached the hotel and found the pilot unconscious and unresponsive.

The pilot’s brother had earlier contacted the hotel manager after the pilot failed to respond to his calls. The manager went to the room, which was locked from the inside, and opened it using the hotel’s master key. The pilot was found unconscious inside.
