The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) Municipal Corporation began demolitions at properties belonging to AIMIM corporator Matin Patel on Wednesday, a day after a local court refused his petition seeking more time to respond to allegations that the buildings were illegal constructions.

Patel came into the spotlight after Nida Khan, an accused in the Nashik TCS sexual harassment and religion conversion case, was arrested from a house belonging to him. The property in question is also reportedly on the list of buildings facing bulldozer action over alleged illegal status.

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar civic body had on May 9 issued a notice to Matin Patel over “illegal” constructions in the city. The notice came a day after Patel was booked for allegedly harbouring Nida Khan.

The civic body had served a notice to the corporator asking him to produce the permission documents concerning a 600-square-foot house owned by him at Kausar Park in the Naregaon area. This was the house where Nida Khan allegedly stayed before her arrest.

Calling the construction illegal, the corporation’s encroachment department had sought clarification from Patel within 72 hours.

Earlier this month, Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat had alleged that Matin Patel, a 35-year-old first-time AIMIM corporator, was “pressured” by AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel to harbour Nida Khan in one of his properties.

Shirsat, a Shiv Sena leader who is also the guardian minister of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), said he had written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding that those who had provided shelter to Khan and her family members should also come under the SIT scanner.

Weeks after she went into hiding, Khan, an accused in a case related to alleged religious conversion and sexual harassment of some women colleagues at a TCS unit in Nashik, was apprehended from a house in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

“Nida Khan first went to Mumbra, and later, Imtiaz Jaleel met her in Nashik, following which he made a statement supporting her. She came to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and stayed here for over a month, and the house she stayed in belongs to an AIMIM corporator,” Shirsat had alleged.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nashik police is probing nine cases of molestation and harassment at the IT major’s Nashik unit.
