Multiple Shells Recovered Near Pakistan Border Ahead of Republic Day Celebrations, Explosives Safely Defused

  • January 22, 2026

Several shells have been recovered near the International Border in Samba district. According to sources, these shells were found from the Devak River area.

Security forces in the border district of Samba recovered several shells near the International Border with Pakistan amid heightened security ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

The shells were found near the Devak River in Samba district. A Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately rushed to the site and the explosives were safely defused at a secure location. No injuries were reported. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the shells reached the area, sources told Times Now.

The recovery came amid renewed drone activity along the border. On Saturday evening, a suspected Pakistani drone was briefly sighted hovering over Kandral village in the Ramgarh area of Samba district. According to officials, the drone-like object crossed over from the Pakistan side around 7 PM and remained in the area for a couple of minutes before disappearing.

Following the sighting, security forces launched a search operation to check for possible airdrops of illicit payloads, including weapons or narcotics. No objectionable material was found during the operation, officials said.

Drone movements have been reported repeatedly in the region this month. Earlier on January 9, security forces recovered an arms consignment in Paloora village of Ghagwal area in Samba district that was believed to have been dropped by a drone originating from Pakistan. The recovered items included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition and a grenade.

In a separate incident earlier this week, Pakistani drones were spotted hovering along the Line of Control in Poonch district and along the International Border in the Ramgarh sector of Samba. Security forces activated their anti-unmanned aerial systems to respond to the threat, and troops remain on high alert along the border.
