Hours after the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes at terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, 2025, citizens are gearing up for a nationwide security drill on Wednesday. According to the Home Ministry, the drills will focus on how to respond to air raid sirens and blackout situations. Here’s a list of items that a person should keep in their blackout kits.

Mock Drill Advisory: Emergency Kit Essentials for Citizens

  • First Aid Kit: Include basic medical supplies like bandages, antiseptics, painkillers, and any essential personal medication.
  • Torches & Batteries: Keep a flashlight and extra batteries ready in case of a power outage.
  • Candles & Matches: Useful for lighting during blackouts if torches are unavailable.
  • Cash in Hand: Carry some cash, as digital payments may not work during emergencies.
  • Charged Power Banks: Ensure mobile devices remain operational if electricity is down.
  • Important Documents: Keep photocopies of ID proofs and emergency contacts safe.

“Staying calm and prepared during emergencies or hostile situations is key to ensuring national security. Regular drills and awareness of such plans can help citizens respond effectively in critical situations,” the National Disaster Management Authority said in a post on X.
