The 44-year-old woman, Sabrina, was paragliding above Salzburg’s Piesendorf region on Saturday (May 23) when a sightseeing aircraft collided with her in midair, reported NBC News, citing Salzburg State Police. The 28-year-old pilot later told investigators he could not prevent the crash.
“The propeller of the motor plane severely damaged the paraglider, prompting the experienced paraglider to deploy her reserve parachute,” police said, as quoted by the media house.
After the incident, the flyer lost control. However, she opened her emergency parachure, showing presence of mind without losing her calm. Sabrina landed safely. She is an experienced paraglider.
The entire incident was recorded in a camera, mounted by Sabrina, The dramatic first-person video captures the moment the paraglider’s wing was torn apart by the collision. Sabrina was sent into a rapid spin and cried out in panic as she lost stability midair. After the primary canopy was destroyed, she quickly activated her emergency parachute during the descent.
