Gopal Khemka Murder Case: The Bihar Police on Tuesday, July 8, said that they have achieved a breakthrough in the murder case of businessman Gopal Khemka. Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his residence in Patna by a bike-borne assailant. The police on Tuesday blamed the killing of the renowned businessman on a land deal that went awry.
At a press conference, DGP Vinay Kumar, among others officials said the firearm used to shoot at Khemka, outside his residence here on Saturday night, has been recovered from a hideout of the alleged shooter.
“As stated earlier, the gunman Umesh Yadav was arrested yesterday, besides Ajay Shaw, by whom he was paid an advance amount of Rs 50,000 for murdering Khemka,” said the DGP. “We have recovered the gun, used to shoot at Khemka, besides a large number of cartridges from Yadav’s place. Saw is said to be involved in property business, and prima facie it was a land deal that led him to hire the contract killer,” added the DGP.

He, however, did not divulge any further details, saying the investigation was still on.

“The motive that has come forward till now is about the land dispute in the business, and there are more reasons also on which we are doing the investigation,” SSP Kartikeya Sharma said. The investigators have also recovered several evidences regarding the land deals.
“We got the papers of the various lands, and an investigation is going on. We have also recovered several audio clips, and the dispute was not only about one land; there were many lands. Vikas, alias Raja, has been sent to jail in other cases also. In 9 cases, FIR has been registered against him… We have not found any criminal record of Umesh Yadav… We are doing the investigation and seeing if there is any outer link,” SSP Sharma said.
Replying to a query, the DGP said, “We are probing as to whether there was any common thread between Khemka’s killing and the murderous assault on his two sons eight years ago.”
