Iranian missile shrapnel hits Jerusalem’s Old City

Tensions escalated dramatically as fragments from an intercepted Iranian ballistic missile struck the Old City of Jerusalem, landing in the Jewish Quarter and causing damage to a parking lot. The impact occurred roughly 400 meters from two of the city’s most sacred landmarks — the Western Wall and the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the Temple Mount. Despite the proximity to these highly sensitive religious sites, no injuries were reported in the Old City incident.

The strike came amid a broader wave of attacks, as Iran fired eight salvos of ballistic missiles at Israel from midnight through early Friday evening. At least two of the salvos appeared to include cluster bomb warheads. While many missiles were intercepted, falling debris caused damage in multiple locations.

In the central city of Rehovot, cluster munitions ignited a house fire, while fragments from intercepted missiles landed across eight to ten different sites, according to police. The attacks resulted in light injuries to civilians, including a man and a woman in their 70s who were wounded by a blast. In another case, part of a missile landed inside a resident’s living room.

Eyewitnesses described moments of fear and shock. A nearby resident told Ynet: “There was a crazy boom, we realized it was exactly where our next-door neighbor lives. They said he was taken to a hospital, now we’re praying for him to get better.” Another resident said the explosion felt powerful but did not shatter windows, calling the incident a “crazy miracle.”
