Delhi Police have launched an investigation into social media posts linked to Pakistani handles following the violence during the Jantar Mantar protest, even as multiple FIRs have been registered and more than 70 people detained in connection with the unrest.
According to Delhi Police sources, investigators are examining whether misinformation circulated online played a role in escalating tensions. The police are also probing the conspiracy behind the violence and looking into a possible outsider angle.
Multiple FIRs registered, over 70 detained
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) confirmed to CNN-News18 that separate FIRs are being registered based on distinct complaints received after the violence.
Police said action is being taken by registering FIRs wherever complaints have been received.
So far, more than 70 people have been detained. Officials are examining CCTV footage and mobile phone videos to identify those involved in the violence.
According to the police, investigators are relying on all available digital evidence to identify the accused and initiate legal action.
Pakistani social media handles under scanner

According to the sources, numerous tweets related to the violence are being traced to various Pakistani social media handles. Police are also examining the spread of rumours linked to the protests.
One such post falsely claimed that seven protesters had died in the violence, 391 people were injured and 250 had been arrested, police sources said.
Officials are investigating the circulation of such claims as part of the wider probe into the violence.
The sources further said that if the involvement of any political party in inciting the violence comes to light during the investigation, action will be taken against those responsible.
Police reiterated that multiple FIRs are being registered in connection with the incidents.
More than 50 police personnel injured
Delhi Police sources said more than 50 police personnel were injured during incidents of stone-pelting and have been shifted to hospitals for treatment.
Among those injured are more than ten IPS and DANIPS officers who had been deployed across different parts of New Delhi to bring the situation under control.
Police said the number of injured personnel could increase, as many officers and staff are still in the process of receiving medical treatment at hospitals.
