Irfan Pathan Breaks Silence On MS Dhoni ‘Hookah’ Controversy; Suggests ‘PR Lobby’ At Play

Irfan Pathan broke his silence after an old clip of him went viral on social media, with many suggesting that it was a dig at MS Dhoni. The video was from five years ago, and Pathan was not pleased with it resurfacing.

Irfan Pathan broke his silence on the controversy surrounding a comment he made in an interaction five years ago over his exclusion from Tema India. Referring to his axing, Pathan claimed he did not have to ask MS Dhoni too many times about the incident, while dropping a cryptic statement about not being someone who he did not have the habit of setting up ‘Hookahs’ for people.
While Pathan did not directly name Dhoni, many fans claimed that it was a remark on the ex-Indian captain under whose leadership the star all-rounder lost his place in the team. The old video quickly went viral on social media, which stirred a big storm.
Pathan spoke about the controversy for the first time after the clip went viral and expressed he was suprised at an old clip resurfacing. The 2007 T20 World Cup-winning captain further stated that his statement was twisted and taken out of context while accusing a PR lobby at being in play.

“Half decade old video surfacing NOW with a twisted context to the Statement. Fan war? PR lobby?,” wrote Pathan on X.

What Did Irfan Pathan Say?

In the video, which is going viral, it is from an interaction Pathan had in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. The star cricketer had opened up on his axing from the Indian team and refered to a chat he had with Dhoni during the 2008 CB series.
“Yes, I asked him. During the 2008 Australia series, Mahi bhai’s statement came out in the media that Irfan wasn’t bowling well. So I thought I had bowled well throughout the series, so I went and asked Mahi bhai about this. Sometimes, the statements are twisted in the media, so I also wanted to clarify. So Mahi bhai said, ‘no Irfan, there is nothing like this, everything’s going as per plans.’ When you get a reply like this, then you believe that okay, you do what you can. Also if you keep asking for explanations again and again after that, you hurt your self-respect,
