The Indian women’s cricket team made it to their ninth consecutive final in the Women’s Asia Cup (sixth in the T20I format) after sealing their place in the 2026 summit clash by beating Bangladesh in the first semi-final on Thursday (September 10) at the Dubai International Stadium. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated the Tigeress by 40 runs.

Talking about the match, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first. Shafali Verma (64 off 40) played a sublime knock which included seven boundaries and three sixes, while India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (2 of 5) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (24 off 28) played a turgid knock. Richa Ghosh (21 off 16) and Deepti Sharma (13 off 6) played valuable knocks to ensure India secured a total of 149 on the board.

In reply, Bangladesh posted just 109 runs (for the loss of seven wickets) in their allocated quota of 20 overs. Deepti Sharma (3-26) was the pick of the bowlers while Nandani Sharma (2-10 in 2 overs) and Shree Charani (1-14) bowled fine spells.

Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final
India will play the winner of the second semi-final between Pakistan and defending champions Sri Lanka, which takes place on Friday (September 11). The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday (September 11).

India will aim to win the title for a record-extending eighth time. They have won seven of the nine editions so far with wins in 2004, 2005-06, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2022. They lost the final to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, respectively, in 2018 and 2024.

Sri Lanka hold the record for being the team with the most appearances in the final of the continental showpiece event and can extend that record if they win tomorrow with a 6th final. Meanwhile, Pakistan have played the summit clash on two occasions.
