Immigration agent pointed gun at bystander before ‘beating man’s head’ into pavement

The incident comes as immigration raids across Chicago are ramping up with Trump also threatening to send in the National Guard into the staunchly Democrat city

An immigration agent was caught on camera appearing to point a handgun at bystanders before slamming a man’s head into the tarmac.

The incident in Evanston, Illinois, on Friday was filmed by concerned witnesses. The man can be heard telling agents he can’t breathe. As the agent appears to strike the man, outrage can be heard from witnesses nearby, with one heard asking: “Why did you do that?”

A longer video of the same incident shows the same agent pull out his gun and point it at someone off screen. A bystander can be heard shouting: “Put that gun away. What are you going to do, shoot people?”

According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents “were being aggressively tailgated by a red vehicle,” which crashed into the agents’ SUV.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “A hostile crowd surrounded agents and their vehicle, and began verbally abusing them and spitting on them. As Border patrol arrested one individual, who actively resisted arrest, pepper spray was deployed spray to deter the agitator and disperse the crowd. ”

Three citizens were arrested during the incident. It is unclear if the man on the ground was involved in the incident described by the DHS.

The DHS also claimed five illegal immigrants from Mexico were arrested in Evanston and neighboring Skokie. They say they had criminal histories, including trespassing charges and multiple illegal entries into the US.

Chicago has become one of the epicenters of Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants. With money being poured into the DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, communities are feeling the brunt of the raids being conducted across the country.

Locals have been left terrified. Allie Harned, of Evanston, said: “Our children are terrified, and our families are terrified, and some are not sending their kids to school. They’re missing school. They’re missing their education. It’s not okay. This is not okay.”

Schools in Evanston and neighboring Skokie took precautions to protect students from immigration raids.
