An Indian student from Hyderabad, who went to the US for his higher studies, was shot dead by miscreants in Texas, former Telangana minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao said on Saturday. The victim, Chandrashekar Pole, was reportedly working part-time at a gas station in Denton, Texas, when the incident occurred.

The victim had completed his Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS) before moving to Dallas for further studies, said Harish Rao, the nephew of BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Harish Rao said he and other party leaders visited the family of the victim at his house in Hyderabad to express their condolences.

“It is tragic that Chandrashekar Pole, a Dalit student from LB Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning,” he wrote on X.

He urged the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government to bring back the victim’s body for the last rites.

Expressing grief over the demise of the student, Chief Minister Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. Assuring support to the victim’s family, he said his government would extend all cooperation to bring back the body.

In a tweet, the Consulate General of India, Houston, condoled the death of Chandrasekhar, and said the mission was in touch with the family and extending all possible assistance.
