Inter Miami provided a crucial update on Lionel Messi’s fitness. Messi gave fans a mini heart attack after he walked off the field during Inter Miami’s MLS clash against Philadelphia Union, clutching his hamstring after taking a free kick. With the World Cup around the corner, the news of Messi’s potential injury created havoc among fans. However, Inter Miami has now provided comforting news, saying that no major damage has been detected. But the club did not provide a timeline for Messi’s return.

Messi is expected to lead Argentina in what many believe could be his last World Cup, and fans will be hoping that the stalwart enters the World Cup in peak fitness. In the build-up to the gala event, Argentina is set to play friendlies against Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9 before opening the tournament against Algeria on June 16 at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Inter Miami CF’s captain had to leave the field yesterday, Sunday, May 24, during the match against Philadelphia Union, due to physical discomfort. After undergoing further medical tests this Monday, the initial diagnosis indicates an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring,” Inter Miami released in a statement.

“The timeline for his return to physical activity will depend on his clinical and functional progress,” it further added. Earlier, Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos had also played down fitness concerns for Messi and said he left the play due to fatigue.
