Honouring Kargil’s Bravest: Indian Army Launches Grand 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas Commemoration

This year, the commemorative events promise to go beyond ceremonies — embracing communities, honouring Next of Kin of war heroes, and reviving the legacy of courage and sacrifice that defines India’s armed forces.

In a powerful tribute to the valour and sacrifice of India’s armed forces, the Indian Army has rolled out an extensive two-month-long commemoration to mark the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, culminating on July 26, 2025. The remembrance honours the heroes of Operation Vijay, who valiantly defended India’s sovereignty during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
Every year, July 26 is etched in the nation’s memory as a day of solemn pride — a day when Indian forces reclaimed strategic peaks in the Kargil-Siachen sector after a fierce and arduous military campaign against Pakistani intruders. The Kargil War remains a milestone in India’s military history for its swift and decisive response, strategic restraint, and heroic ground action under extreme conditions.
This year, the commemorative events promise to go beyond ceremonies — embracing communities, honouring Next of Kin of war heroes, and reviving the legacy of courage and sacrifice that defines India’s armed forces.
