FORMER President Joe Biden has revealed his cancer treatment is “going really well” in a rare personal health update as he announced a new book about his four years in the White House.
The 83-year-old thanked supporters for their prayers and well-wishes as he spoke about spending more time with his family while battling the disease.
In a video released on Wednesday, Biden said, “I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family. I’m dealing with a cancer diagnosis, been getting treatment, and it’s going really well.”
“I want to thank all those who have offered their prayers and support and well-wishes. It’s meant the world to me and to Jill.”
The update came as publishers Little Brown and Company announced that Biden’s presidential memoir, Promise Me, America, will be released on November 17.
The book will look back at the major crises and decisions that defined his one term in the White House, including the controversial end of his 2024 re-election campaign.
“‘Promise Me, America’ is about the challenges we faced as a nation. It’s about the decisions I made and why I made them,” Biden said.
“Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America.”
Biden said the memoir will explore leading the country through the Covid pandemic, rebuilding the economy and the aftermath of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
It will also cover the withdrawal from Afghanistan, his efforts to strengthen NATO and US support for Ukraine.
The former president said he will address why he initially chose to seek a second term, and why he later made the dramatic decision to step aside.
Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race in July that year following mounting concerns about his age and fitness for office.
Then-Vice President Kamala Harris replaced him as the Democratic nominee before losing the election to Donald Trump.
Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2025 after experiencing urinary symptoms and doctors discovered a nodule.
