Who doesn’t love that soothing face massage after a long week? It feels relaxing and refreshing. But what if that “relaxation” could secretly be putting your eyesight at risk? Yes, it sounds shocking, but recent warnings from an ophthalmologist in Agra suggest that certain face massages, especially those using high-frequency massage guns, could actually lead to cataracts.
The idea seems far-fetched at first because how could a simple facial harm your eyes? But when you see how some modern salons use powerful massagers right near the eye, the danger becomes clear.
High-Frequency Massages And Real-Life Risks
The doctor shared a case of a young man who developed a cataract in his right eye. Curious about the cause, the doctor asked about his daily routine. “History mein ye samajh aya ki ye hafte mein 2-3 baar face massage karane poch jate the aur jaha bhi inka salon hai, wo high frequency massage gun aur massagers use karta tha (It was understood from his history that he used to get a facial 2-3 times a week, and at his salon, they used high-frequency massage guns and massagers),” he said.
Shockingly, the young man’s massage sessions involved placing the massager directly over his eyes. The doctor explained, “Uski jo high frequency hai, wo eye mein shockwaves ki tarah act kar rahi thi. Aur us shockwaves ki uski aankh mein traumatic cataract hogaya (The high-frequency vibrations acted like shockwaves in his eye, which led to a traumatic cataract).”
“On the internet, we checked, and we were surprised to see that there were so many cases,” the doctor further said.
It turns out that this isn’t an isolated incident; high-intensity vibrations near the eyes have been linked to several eye injuries, which include sudden cataract formation.
The Hidden Danger Explained
In the caption, the doctor explained about it in detail: “When high-intensity vibrations are applied near the eyes, they create Shockwaves that travel through the eyeball. This leads to what doctors call a “Coup and Contrecoup” injury.
The Lens: Can become cloudy almost instantly (Cataract).
The Retina: The delicate “wallpaper” of your eye can detach, leading to permanent vision loss.”
