ONE of Vladimir Putin’s allies has urged him – in public – to “freeze” the war in Ukraine.
President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, spoke with his Russian counterpart earlier today to deliver the devastating blow after receiving “many signals” from Europe and the US.
“Perhaps it is time to freeze this conflict and return to the Istanbul 2.0 formula, as significant results were achieved there,” he told the morose-looking dictator.
“After that – naturally under guarantees from major powers, including Russia – we can move forward.”
Giving advice, Tokayev was referring to the negotiations held between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey last year.
At the time, the core concepts included locking in a ceasefire along the current lines of territorial control, and long-term security provisions backed by major global powers.
Tokayev said he had received numerous signals from Europe and the US about the conflict, which he described as an interstate war.
“I will not hide that I have been receiving many signals, which I informed you about over the phone,” he told Putin.
“Signals from Europe and the US about the current state of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.”
He further added that “significant results were achieved” and that it is a “pity that young people are dying.”
