A father and his son were struck by lightning while transplanting paddy in a Dhenkanal field on Sunday. Both were declared dead at hospital, leaving their family and village in shock.
A father and his son were killed after being struck by lightning while transplanting paddy in a field in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Santosh Dehury and his son, Satyanarayan, residents of Balipada village under the Kamakhyanagar police station limits.
According to local sources, the father-son duo had gone to the Goradia paddy fields near their village on Sunday afternoon to transplant paddy when the weather suddenly deteriorated. They were directly struck by lightning while working in the field, suffering severe injuries and collapsing on the spot.
Villagers rushed to their aid and shifted them to Kamakhyanagar Hospital. However, doctors declared both dead on arrival.
