Despite only having an MBBS degree, Sharma had been performing serious cardiac procedures, including surgeries, which he was not qualified to do. Several patients reportedly experienced complications, and some died after treatment, according to police.

An MBBS-qualified doctor allegedly posed as a cardiologist and performed more than 50 heart procedures over eight months at a government hospital in Faridabad. The doctor, identified as Dr Pankaj Mohan Sharma, is accused of using the registration number of a licensed cardiologist with the same name to carry out surgeries at the heart care centre in Badshah Khan Civil Hospital, reports PTI.
Police said the case came to light when a patient contacted the real cardiologist, prompting an internal inquiry. Despite only having an MBBS degree, Sharma had been performing serious cardiac procedures, including surgeries, which he was not qualified to do. Several patients reportedly experienced complications, and some died after treatment, according to police.
Sharma was hired by Mediterina Hospital, which runs the heart centre under a public-private partnership, in July 2024. He worked there until February 2025. During that time, police said he used a forged stamp and falsely claimed to have a DNB in Cardiology. He also allegedly used another doctor’s registration number 2456 instead of his own MBBS number , 28482.
Authorities launched an investigation after complaints were filed, including one on April 11 by advocate and social activist Sanjay Gupta, who accused Sharma of using fake documents to claim additional qualifications.
The real Dr Pankaj Mohan, whose registration Sharma allegedly used, filed a formal complaint with the Indian Medical Association and sent Sharma a legal notice in January.
Hospital officials have not confirmed how many patients were treated or operated on by Sharma. However, family members of some patients have come forward raising concerns. One of them, Raja Ram from Palwal district, alleged that his father died a day after undergoing a stent procedure performed by Sharma on January 10.
