Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s ‘X’ handle was found to be hacked on Sunday, with hackers posting images of flags of Pakistan and Turkey, reported PTI citing officials.
The hackers live-streamed images with photographs of the two Islamic countries, on a day when India and Pakistan are set to play their second game in the Asia Cup, they said, adding that the account was later retrieved.
“We immediately alerted the cyber crime police. Our team that is in-charge of the Dy CM’s X handle later retrieved the account,” the official told news agency PTI. It took 30 to 45 minutes to set the account in order, the official added.
Earlier in July this year, the X account of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) was hacked. The hackers had reportedly posted a crypto payment address, along with an image of chipmunk, a rodent.
“JMM’s official X handle @JMM Jharkhand has been hacked by anti-social elements. @JharkhandPolice Take congnisance, investigate the matter and take immediate action. @XCorpIndia please take cognisance @GlobalAffairs,” Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren had then wrote on the social media platform.
Last year, the X account of Congress’ Assam unit was hacked and the hackers had changed the profile name to ‘Tesla Event’ and the profile picture was changed to electric carmaker Tesla’s logo.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee lodged a police complaint and demanded the arrest of the culprit. The account was later restored.
