‘Don’t Want To Give Police Opportunity to Selectively Label People as Non-Peaceful Protesters’: CJP’s Saurav Das on Cops Action | Exclusive

  • July 28, 2026

Saurav Das, spokesperson for the Cockroach Janta Party, defended the peaceful nature of their 30-day protest at Jantar Mantar amid police crackdowns and threats of renewed demonstrations if FIRs against protesters aren’t withdrawn.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das, amid a reported crackdown by police against ‘unruly’ protesters in the Jantar Mantar protest and CJP’s ultimatum to the government to withdraw the FIRs against all the protesters, said that their agitation has been the most peaceful protest in a long time as they have been sitting at the Jantar Mantar for 30 days.

As reports surfaced that some people who participated in the Delhi protest were being indemnified and questioned, Saurav Das reminded that people had come to the protest with good intentions, however, criminal elements, if present, should not be used as a reason to target genuine protesters.

Joining Times Now for an exclusive conversation, when asked why action should not be taken against those who got indulged in violence, Saurav Das, while referring to their meeting with the government representatives said, “What has been agreed upon is that all FIRs should be withdrawn. We don’t want to give the police the opportunity to selectively label people as non-peaceful protesters.”

Mentioning that the government must honour what was announced before night on the youth of this country, Das said that FIRs must be withdrawn, and a written guarantee is expected from the government regarding “no future action against the protesters”.

“All FIRs registered against protesters must be withdrawn, and there should be a written guarantee that no future action or retaliatory action will be taken against any protester,” he said.

Das reminded that during the presser — between them and government when they announced to end the protest, the word “peaceful” was not used.

Speaking further, Saurav Das said that they need to see the FIRs and the evidence on which someone is being labelled a non-peaceful protester.

Das said the Centre’s compensation for the families of the deceased NEET aspirants is still pending.
