But this week, the internet has decided to focus on something considerably lower. Donald Trump’s backside.

A video of the US President walking away from a stage at an event in New York has sent social media into a spiral after viewers noticed an oddly shaped bulge beneath the back of his suit jacket. The footage was posted by outgoing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who had shared it as a clip of what she described as a spontaneous moment involving Trump and the family of a 12-year-old boy killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx.

The internet, however, had other plans.

People zoomed in. Then zoomed in some more. And then, as happens on the internet, began producing theories faster than anyone could possibly verify them.

Was it something tucked under his jacket? Was the suit simply sitting awkwardly? Was it a medical device? An adult diaper? A mysterious contraption? Or, because no viral Trump story is complete without an absurd theory, a Brazilian butt lift?

Nobody knows.

The Great Trump Rear-End Mystery

The video itself does not establish what is causing the bulge.

BuzzFeed, after examining the footage, noted that it was unclear why Trump’s jacket appeared to protrude around his backside. It suggested several mundane possibilities, including the fabric being caught on something or the blazer simply fitting awkwardly.

That did not stop the internet from conducting its own forensic investigation.

Journalist Aaron Rupar asked on X: “Seriously, what is going on with Trump’s rear end here?” He wondered whether there was some sort of contraption underneath the suit. Then came George Conway, the conservative lawyer and longtime Trump critic, with the beautifully economical response: “It depends.” The joke was a reference to Depend, the adult-incontinence brand.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova was less subtle, suggesting it looked like a large diaper. And just like that, the internet had found its latest presidential investigation.

From Presidential Policy To Presidential Pants

The episode is particularly Trumpian because the president’s actual message at the event has almost completely disappeared from the online conversation. Instead, the frame people are discussing is the one shot from behind.

The internet quickly divided into three camps: those seriously theorising about the mysterious shape, those simply making jokes and those pleading with everyone to stop looking at Trump’s rear end.

The third group may have had the least chance of success. The jokes have ranged from diaper references to speculation about cosmetic surgery. One social media user even suggested the president had undergone a Brazilian butt lift. The Independent reported that the clip had triggered a wave of mockery over Trump’s health and possible incontinence.

So, Is Trump Wearing A Diaper?

There is no evidence proving it. The viral footage does not show what is underneath Trump’s clothing, and neither the White House nor Trump’s medical team has confirmed that he was wearing an adult diaper.

The Daily Beast reported that Trump’s biographer had also said there was no basis for the longstanding claim that he wears adult diapers.

So, why does everyone care about it so much?

Because Trump has become unusually good at turning his physical presence into political content. His health has been under increasing scrutiny during his second term, with public attention focusing on bruising on his hands, swelling around his ankles, a neck rash and moments when he has appeared tired or fallen asleep at public events. The White House has offered explanations for several of those issues, including aspirin use and chronic venous insufficiency.
