Despite SC Order, 6 Delhi Metro Stations Shut Amid Oppn’s SC March

On Monday, from 6 am to 4 pm, entry and exit will be prohibited at six metro stations in Delhi ahead of a Supreme Court march organized by opposition parties, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

Entry-exit at six Delhi Metro stations will remain closed till 4 PM today in view of Opposition’s anti-CEC stir despite SC concerns on closure of metro stations.

Despite Supreme Court direction to the government during a special Sunday hearing not to close metro stations during peaceful protests in the national capital, entry and exit at six metro stations will remain closed today from 6 am to 4 pm. The order has come in view of the Opposition’s Supreme Court march, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a post on X.

Which Six Metro Stations Are Closed Today

The six metro stations where entry and exit will remain closed are – Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat and Barakhamba Road, the DMRC said.

“The situation will be reviewed by the security agencies and necessary updates will be shared accordingly. However, interchange facility will remain available at all the concerned metro stations,” it further said.

Oppn To March To Supreme Court Amid Anti-CEC Protest

The opposition parties will march to the Supreme Court today, with Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge seeking a meeting with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant to raise the issue of alleged “vote chori”.

The Chief Justice, however, declined to meet Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over “vote chori” allegations, saying similar matters are sub-judice in the Supreme Court, sources said.

Both Gandhi and Kharge had written to CJI Surya Kant for a meeting with him between 4 and 5 PM today but he refused to give an appointment. The move is yet another attempt to intensify their agitation against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Rahul Gandhi said opposition parties, civil society and youth would march to the Supreme Court to submit the memorandum to the CJI on behalf of the country, demanding an end to ‘vote chori’, CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, halting of SIR and switching back to paper ballot.

The Congress has termed Monday’s protest as “Chalo Delhi – March for Democracy” and said they would converge at 1.30 PM at Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction.

In a post on X, Gandhi said the march to the Supreme Court would be by Indians united beyond parties, gender, caste, community and state.

“Yesterday, the nation’s young came out in Delhi to peacefully protest. They came with love in their hearts, not hatred or anger. They were beaten, both by cops and BJP goons. This is not the India we want.
