Travelling from Noida to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has just become far smoother and faster. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two landmark infrastructure projects today from Rohini, the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, that promise to slash travel time to the airport to just 20 minutes.
Major boost to Delhi-NCR connectivity
The 76-kilometre UER-II, described as Delhi’s new “outer ring road”, runs from Alipur to Mahipalpur near the airport. Built at a cost of about Rs 7,716 crore, the six-lane corridor connects key areas such as Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, while linking to major highways including Delhi–Chandigarh, Delhi–Rohtak and Sonipat.
Alongside, the 29-kilometre Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway was also opened. Extending from the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur, this section will now seamlessly join the Gurugram stretch inaugurated in March 2024. Together, the two corridors are expected to ease pressure on Delhi’s arterial roads, offering uninterrupted access to the airport, Gurugram and Jaipur.

Leaders attend grand inauguration

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several BJP leaders joined Prime Minister Modi at the inauguration ceremony. Officials highlighted that the access-controlled expressways will not only save time but also significantly cut congestion across the capital’s Ring Road and other choke points.

Modern features for a smoother ride

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the UER-II was developed under the Delhi Master Plan 2021 and spans 54 kilometres within Delhi and 21 kilometres in Haryana. The corridor includes eight lanes, service roads, four multi-level interchanges and multiple underpasses.

The Rs 9,000 crore Dwarka Expressway, built in four packages, and UER-II, completed in five phases, are both being hailed as game-changers in Delhi-NCR’s road network. With their opening, travellers from Noida and western suburbs now have a direct, 20-minute run to IGI Airport – a relief long awaited by daily commuters.
