A CRPF jawan was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in Haryana’s Sonipat while he was on leave. Police suspect the killing is linked to an altercation during the Kanwar Yatra.

A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was shot dead allegedly by two bike-borne men in his village in Haryana’s Sonipat district. Police suspect the involvement of youths who had an altercation with the jawan during the Kanwar Yatra.
The incident happened on Monday morning while the jawan, identified as Krishan, nearly 30 years old, was on leave.
The two suspects fled after opening fire at Krishan who was returning home in the early hours of Monday, it was known.
Later, commenting on the incident, the police confirmed that the jawan died in the incident and that his body had been sent for postmortem.
“CRPF jawan Krishan died in the incident. His body has been sent for postmortem examination,” SHO Sadar, Gohana, Inspector Lal Singh told news agency PTI.
“During the Kanwar Yatra, some youths of the village had entered into an altercation with him a few days ago. They have been identified,” he said.
The CRPF jawan is survived by his wife and a child, the SHO said.
A case had been registered and further investigations were on, he added.
In another similar incident, a 65-year-old retired Army jawan was beaten to death following a dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ramdayal Kushwaha, a resident of Fatehpur village in the Rudrapur police station area.
According to the police, Kushwaha had objected to his neighbour, Vijay Bind, driving his car through the victim’s land. Following this, an argument broke out between the two.
Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Arvind Kumar Verma said that Vijay and some of his companions beat up Ramdayal and fled.
On Monday night, a 45-year-old man was shot dead in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area.
The incident occurred around 10 pm, when police received information from a hospital about a man being admitted with gunshot injuries. He later succumbed during treatment.
