Lucknow Woman Doctor Arrested In ‘White Collar’ Terror Bust, AK-47 Recovered From Car

The joint operation is being conducted by police teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. So far, eight individuals have been arrested, including an assistant professor at a university in Faridabad.

Lucknow doctor Dr Shaheen was arrested Monday in a multi-state terror bust; police recovered an AK-47 from her vehicle.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a woman doctor from Lucknow in the multi-state terror sweep being carried out by police forces of Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Dr Shaheen, a resident of Lal Bagh, was arrested Monday and has been flown to Srinagar for custodial interrogation. An AK-47 was recovered from her car, officials said.
Dr Shaheen is said to be an associate of Kashmiri doctor Dr Muzammil Ganaie who was arrested from Faridabad on October 30. Sources said that Dr Shaheen “was in touch with Dr. Muzammil, from whose rented residence Police recovered major cache of explosives.”
Ganaie, who worked as an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, lived in a rented apartment, from where the police seized nearly 360 kg of a highly inflammable substance, believed to be ammonium nitrate, along with arms and ammunition and bomb-making material, in a raid on Sunday.

The police also recovered an assault rifle with three magazines, 83 live rounds, a pistol with eight live cartridges, 12 suitcases, a bucket filled with the explosive substance, 20 timers, remote controls and a walkie-talkie set.

Days later, on November 6, the police also arrested a Pulwama-based doctor – Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather – from a hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Adeel, a resident of south Kashmir’s Qazigund, was wanted for putting up posters backing terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.
Adeel, who worked as a Senior Resident at GMC Anantnag until October 2024, went absconding after the incident. He was apprehended last week after the police acted on leads and tracked him to a private hospital on Ambala Road.
A total of eight individuals have been arrested so far, including Dr Shaheen, Dr Ganaie and Dr Rather.
The eight accused were linked to what authorities described as a “white collar” network connected to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. “The arrests led to the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives,” officials said.

In a major development in the anti-terror operation underway in Delhi-NCR, a woman doctor associated with one of the accused is being interrogated. The cops have recovered 360 Kg explosives, a rifle, pistols, 5 litre chemicals, 20 timers and 14 bags during raids following the arrest of a doctor hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.
A woman doctor, suspected to have close links with the arrested doctor, Dr Muzamil Shakeel, is being interrogated by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the central agencies. More police officers have reached the spot, sources told Times Now.
The cops have arrested Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, a resident of south Kashmir’s Qazigund, from a hospital in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) on November 6. Another accused, Dr Muzamil Shakeel, a teacher at Al Falaha University, was arrested in a joint operation by Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Adeel Rather was also wanted in connection with putting up posters supporting terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar. According to officials, Adeel, who worked as a Senior Resident at GMC Anantnag until October 2024, was absconding after the incident. Acting on leads, police tracked him to a private hospital on Ambala Road in Saharanpur, where he was apprehended.

During the operation, around 360 kg of explosives suspected to be ammonium nitrate, one Carom Cok rifle, two automatic pistols, 84 cartridges, five litres of chemicals, 20 timers with battery and 14 bags were recovered, police said.
Faridabad CP Satender Kumar said, “It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and Jammu and Kashmir Police. An accused, Dr Muzamil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material is recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX…”

The silent trial of LinkedIn profiles

A generation of students learns to measure worth in endorsements and impressions rather than competence or character.

In a profession obsessed with evidence, the most damning trial has no judge, no jury – just a LinkedIn profile and a thousand silent verdicts. No cross-examination, no rebuttal. Just a scroll, a sigh and a quiet sense of inadequacy.

LinkedIn was meant to be a bridge connecting young lawyers to mentors, chambers and opportunities. But somewhere along the way, it became a courtroom. Every post is a performance. Every certificate is a plea for relevance. Every internship update is a whispered prayer: please notice me. Please believe I belong.

The performance of potential

Law students are taught to argue with precision, cite with flair and draft with dignity. But on LinkedIn, they learn something else: how to curate a persona. The “LinkedIn lawyer” is always achieving, always grateful, always broadcasting composure. They win moots, publish papers, intern at top firms and still find time to post about mental health and mentorship.

But behind the polished prose lies panic. The fear that if you don’t post, you don’t exist. That silence equals failure. That your worth is measured not in skill, but in visibility.

The algorithm of anxiety

You upload a post. You wait. You refresh. Three likes. One from a batchmate, one from a cousin, one from a stranger who likely misclicked. Meanwhile, your classmate’s post – same internship, same firm – has 300 likes and a comment from a partner.

You tell yourself it doesn’t matter. You tell yourself it’s not a competition. But the algorithm disagrees. It rewards polish, pedigree and proximity to power. It amplifies those already seen. The rest orbit in silence.

The ghost of meritocracy

LinkedIn claims to be democratic. But in law, democracy is often a myth. The platform mirrors the profession’s inequalities: elite colleges, fluent English and family connections. A student from a tier-3 law school with a brilliant mind and no network is invisible. Their achievements, however hard-won, vanish in the feed.

Merit exists, but it’s filtered through a lens of privilege. The platform doesn’t ask what you did. It asks where you did it, who liked it and how well you phrased it.

The mentorship mirage

Scroll through LinkedIn and you’ll find a parade of senior lawyers posting about “uplifting juniors.” They speak of guidance, empathy and the joy of teaching. But send them a message, no reply. Tag them in a post, no acknowledgement. Ask for help, radio silence.

Mentorship on LinkedIn is often theatre. A velvet curtain of hashtags hides a backstage of neglect. The same seniors who post about “building the future” rarely build anything beyond their own brand.

The silent trial

Every scroll is a cross-examination. You compare your profile to others. You question your choices. You doubt your worth. You wonder if you’re falling behind, or worse, if you were never in the race to begin with.

And the verdict? Always the same: not enough internships. Not enough publications. Not enough likes. Not enough.

The defence and its collapse

There is, of course, a defence. Proponents will argue that LinkedIn merely mirrors reality. That ambition, networking and self-projection are integral to professional life. The argument is not without merit.

But the defence collapses when the mirror begins to dictate behaviour. What began as a reflection becomes coercion. The platform no longer records progress; it prescribes it. The narrative of success becomes so homogenous that deviation feels dangerous. The illusion of meritocracy masks a quiet tyranny of sameness.

The cost of the masquerade

The social consequences are subtle, but corrosive. A generation of students learns to measure worth in endorsements and impressions rather than competence or character. Genuine curiosity is replaced by strategic learning, the pursuit of skills that look good on profiles rather than those that build understanding.

In law, where nuance and patience are virtues, this trend is especially destructive. The art of deep reading or silent reflection is sacrificed at the altar of “engagement.” Thought itself becomes a performance metric.

What is lost is not only sincerity, but intellectual privacy: the freedom to err, to evolve, to remain unseen while learning. The digital stage allows no such liberty. Every milestone must be broadcast; every silence must be explained. In a profession obsessed with appearances, young lawyers begin their careers defending themselves not in court, but in their own feeds.

It is a subtle but profound inversion of priorities.

The psychological burden

The burden of constant exhibition is rarely acknowledged. Behind polished posts lie private anxieties: fear of inadequacy, dread of being forgotten and the fatigue of perpetual self- curation. The law student who scrolls through a feed of triumphs begins to believe she alone is uncertain, ordinary, or late.

The truth, of course, is that everyone else feels the same, but the architecture of the platform ensures that no one admits it. LinkedIn thus becomes not a network, but a masquerade: a collective performance of composure.

The final judgment

This is not an argument for retreat or cynicism. Visibility has its uses; connection is valuable. But the true failure lies in how easily intellect is reduced to optics, how swiftly potential is traded for performance. LinkedIn does not try us; we try ourselves upon it.

Rahul Gandhi made to do 10 push-ups as punishment in Panchmarhi. This is why

Congress training camp chief Sachin Rao announced Rahul Gandhi had to do 10 push-ups as punishment for arriving late.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was made to do ten push-ups as a lighthearted punishment for arriving late at the party’s training camp for district presidents in Madhya Pradesh’s Pachmarhi on Saturday. According to party sources, the Congress camp maintained strict discipline, with symbolic penalties introduced to encourage punctuality among participants.

On Sunday, the Congress Raebareli MP arrived nearly 20 minutes late for the evening session, prompting camp chief Sachin Rao to jokingly remind attendees that latecomers were expected to face a “punishment”.

When Rahul Gandhi asked what that meant, Rao said the rule required ten push-ups.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha immediately complied, performing them before taking his seat — an act that drew applause from participants and set a lighter tone for the session.

After the brief episode, Rahul Gandhi went on to address the new district presidents and discuss organisational goals and training strategies.

The event, part of the Congress’s internal capacity-building programme, emphasised discipline and accountability within party ranks.

RENEWED ‘VOTE CHORI’ ATTACK ON BJP

Later, the Congress MP turned his attention to the ruling BJP and the Election Commission, accusing them of large-scale electoral malpractice through ‘vote chori’.

“A few days ago, I presented the Haryana model where 2.5 million votes were stolen — one in every eight. This is their system. The main issue is vote chori,” he claimed, adding that his party had evidence which would be released gradually. Both the BJP and the Election Commission have rejected these allegations.

BJP’S ‘LEADER OF PARTYING’ JIBE

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala took a swipe at Gandhi, calling him the “Leader of Tourism and partying”.

Protest At India Gate Against Supreme Court Order To Remove Stray Dogs From Public Places

This comes after the Supreme Court, while taking into consideration the “alarming rise of dog bite incidents”, ordered all states and Union Territories (UTs) on November 7 to ensure the removal of all stray dogs from every educational institution, hospital, public sports complexes, bus stands, and railway stations.

Protest At India Gate Against Supreme Court Order To Remove Stray Dogs From Public Places | ANI

People protested against the latest Supreme Court order to remove all stray dogs from the premises of educational institutions, hospitals, bus and railway stations at India Gate on Sunday.

Speaking to ANI, a protestor said, “I don’t call myself an animal lover or a dog lover. I am a citizen of this country, and I am here for the sake of humanity. In the Supreme Court’s last order, it was said that in the last three years, there have been no deaths due to Rabies. Due to fake reports, they have issued an order to relocate dogs, which will escalate the problem.” “People are being forced to resort to inhalers because they are not able to breathe properly. When they have no answer for their incompetence, and the issues of pollution and vote-chori, they are raising such issues where animals will suffer because they can’t speak or vote. I demand that the government adopt scientific and logical solutions, and that the Supreme Court not make a joke of itself. They should sterilise dogs instead of relocating them,” he added.

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria stated that all these institutions and places must be properly fenced to prevent the entry of stray dogs.

The stray dogs should not be released to the same spot from which they were picked up, the bench ordered. It also said that permitting their return would “frustrate the very purpose” of securing such premises and addressing public safety concerns.”They will not be released back in the same area since releasing them back will frustrate the very purpose of the directive of the court,” said the bench.

Heated Exchange Between Parent & Delhi Police As Kids Detained During Pollution Protest At India Gate | X

A shocking video has surfaced on social media, showing a heated exchange between a parent and Delhi Police constable during the protests against the deteriorating air quality in the national capital on Sunday. The video shows that the argument erupts after the constable tries to detain two kids joining the protests while wearing masks.

The video shows that the parent asks the police constable, “Bachchon ko arrest karenge aap?” (Will you arrest children?) to which the constable replies, “Bachchon ko protest mein leke ayange aap?” (You will bring the kids to protest?). The argument then escalated and the parent said, “Isko saans lene ka adhikaar nahi hai kya?” (Doesn’t he has the right to breathe?).

The video is shared by environment activist “Vimlendu Jha” on his X account. HIV from transfusion: Poorly managed Jharkhand blood banks under lens

Incidentally, the licences of a majority of blood banks in the state have expired long ago. Though many applied for renewal of their licenses, the matter remained pending at various levels.

Five cases of HIV infection from blood transfusion were reported from Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa. Credit: Social media

Ranchi: The public healthcare system in Jharkhand is in the eye of the storm after recent reports of six children getting infected with HIV following transfusion of contaminated blood. The victims, aged between six and ten years, are thalassemia patients who need regular blood transfusion every fortnight.

While five cases were reported from Chaibasa, the sixth one was traced to Koderma. All received blood from the blood banks run by the Sadar Hospital of respective districts. The incident has shed light on the inadequate, inefficient and unscientific management of blood banks by the state’s health department.

A few examples are enough to paint the correct picture. The blood bank run by the Red Cross Society in Ranchi has been pulling on without a valid license for the past 18 years! A chaotic situation prevails in Pakur following the closure of the blood bank there, and the Gumla district’s Sadar Hospital has no blood bank.

Incidentally, the licences of a majority of blood banks in the state have expired long ago. Though many applied for renewal of their licenses, the matter remained pending at various levels.

Aggravating the situation, the laboratories of these blood banks relied mainly on rapid kit tests, the results of which are often inaccurate. Other standard procedures for testing blood samples — ELISA, chemiluminescence, etc. — were overlooked. Either the equipment was not functional due to technical faults or there was a lack of expertise to operate them.

“During 2021-25, 259 donors gave blood to thalassemia patients in Chaibasa. Our further inquiries revealed that the affected patients had received blood from 44 donors in the past. Four such donors were found HIV-infected,” Health Minister Irfan Ansari, also a medical doctor, said, adding that the government would take care of the victims’ treatment.

As the issue snowballed into a major political row, Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered suspension of Chaibasa civil surgeon and medical officer in-charge and dismissal of lab technicians concerned in Chaibasa and Koderma. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to each of the victims.

As a knee-jerk reaction, the government also shut down 17 blood banks across the state.

“We are doing our best. Our chief minister too is keeping a vigilant eye. The BJP and its allies are trying to gain political mileage (out of the incident),” Ansari said, referring to the political backlash over the incident.

Additional Chief Secretary (health) Ajay Kumar Singh maintained that sample tests with rapid kits have completely been stopped. Only the standard procedures such as ELISA and chemiluminescence will remain in force. Inspections of all blood banks across the state have been completed, he said.

How India’s Most Advanced ‘Eye in the Sky’ GSAT-7R Will Counter China’s Expanding Space Power

India recently launched the GSAT-7R, its largest defense communications satellite, to enhance the Indian Navy’s maritime communication and awareness in the Indian Ocean Region, where China’s military presence has been increasing.

The GSAT-7R satellite, weighing about 4,400 kg, will bolster the Indian Navy’s secure, real-time communications and maritime domain awareness across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) — a theatre where China has expanded its military footprint in recent years.

India took a significant step toward strengthening its maritime communications network with the launch of GSAT-7R, the country’s heaviest dedicated defence communications satellite, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre earlier this month. The satellite, weighing about 4,400 kg, will bolster the Indian Navy’s secure, real-time communications and maritime domain awareness across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) — a theatre where China has expanded its military footprint in recent years.
The launch comes six months after Operation Sindoor, the four-day military offensive in May that saw the Indian armed forces targeting terrorist infrastructure deep within Pakistan. During the conflict, China helped Pakistan with space-based intelligence, as per reports.
Weighing approximately 4,400 kg, GSAT-7R is equipped with numerous indigenous, state-of-the-art components specifically designed to meet the operational needs of the Indian Navy.

“In an era of complex security challenges, GSAT-7R represents the Indian Navy’s determination to protect the nation’s maritime interests by leveraging advanced technology through Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance),” stated the Defence Ministry.

What’s GSAT-7R?
The satellite will enhance connectivity with high-capacity bandwidth, enabling secure real-time communication between naval ships, aircraft, and submarines across IOR, upto 2,000 kms from India’s coastline.
It will enabl blue-water operations — i.e., sustained naval presence far from Indian shores.
The satellite will support network-centric warfare, where all naval assets operate as a unified information network.
Why It Matters
India is expanding maritime surveillance and response across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
GSAT-7R will offer higher bandwidth, better encryption, and greater coverage than its predecessor.
Enhances interoperability with the upcoming P-75I submarine fleet, carrier groups, and maritime drones.
China’s Military Satellite Fleet Now over 1,000

China has rapidly developed advanced anti-space capabilities like direct-ascent anti-satellite missiles, co-orbital satellites, electronic warfare systems, and high-powered directed energy weapons such as lasers designed to deny or degrade another nation’s access to space.
From just 36 in 2010, China’s military satellite fleet has expanded to over 1,000 by 2024, including around 360 satellites dedicated to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, according to a Times of India report.
Integrated Defence Staff chief Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, speaking at a seminar in June, emphasised the need to expand India’s “surveillance envelope” and underscored the importance of “real-time situational awareness” in military operations.

The ceremony was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who congratulated Ghosh and her coach for their outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday felicitated India women’s cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens for her stellar performance in the World Cup. The ceremony was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who congratulated Ghosh and her coach for their outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.

Mamata Hails ‘Daughters of Bengal’

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised Richa’s achievements, calling her an inspiration for young girls across the state.

“Richa’s remarkable achievement is a testament to the talent, determination, and spirit of Bengal’s daughters, inspiring countless young girls to dream big and aim high. We all have more expectations from her, but we should not pressurize her,” Banerjee said. The Chief Minister also expressed hope that Bengal’s archery team would one day make it to the Olympics.

Hefty Reward and State Honours

As part of the felicitation, a cheque of ₹34 lakh was presented to Richa Ghosh — representing each run she scored in the World Cup final. Additionally, she was conferred with the ‘Banga Bhushan’ award, a gold chain, and an appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in West Bengal.

Jhulan Goswami Recalls Talent Hunt Discovery

Former Indian women’s team captain Jhulan Goswami recalled discovering Richa during a district-level talent hunt held years ago.

Clean Coach, Dirty Track? Housekeeping Staff Throws Garbage From Moving Train: ‘Harsh Reality Of Indian Railways’

The video was recorded by a passenger. (Photo Credit: X)

Train journeys are no doubt fun when travelling with friends and family. The endless chatter and the ever-changing landscapes outside make the ride as memorable as the destination itself. But perhaps one of the biggest turn-offs is the uncleanness. It doesn’t matter if you are travelling in 2AC, 3AC, or sleeper class; the problem persists everywhere. From stained windows to overflowing bins, the sight can sometimes ruin the charm of an otherwise scenic ride.

But what if the people responsible for maintaining the coaches’ cleanliness are the ones responsible for contributing to the mess? Recently, a video has surfaced on social media, showcasing a similar distressing event.

OBHS Tosses Garbage From Moving Train

The clip, recorded by a passenger, captured the On Board Housekeeping Service (OBHS) staff member casually throwing away garbage on the tracks, out of a moving train. After that, the employee casually replaced the trash bin with another plastic bag, seemingly indifferent to the environmental damage caused. The camera then panned to the passenger, who exhibited a disappointed expression.

Internet Criticises Inappropriate Act

“OBHS staff are contractual employees hired via tenders, earning approximately ₹15,000 monthly for shifts exceeding nine hours, with overtime at double rates mandated by labour laws, yet facing criticism for low accountability and overwork in maintaining hygiene across over 1,100 train pairs,” slammed a user.

“Everyone is busy keeping their own place clean by throwing the garbage outside. Our civic sense is still in 1925,” pointed out another. “Every time you throw garbage on railway lines, remember — someone has to risk their life cleaning it. Respect their work. Keep our railways clean,” highlighted an individual.

Centre Sets 90-Day Deadline For ATC Upgrade After Delhi Airport Glitch

Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha visited the Delhi Air Traffic Control (ATC) centre on Friday night amid the tech glitch.

Delhi Airport on Thursday and Friday witnessed massive technical disruption which led to delays in over 800 flights. Reviewing the situation, the Central government directed the Airports Authority to immediately upgrade the system at busy airports.

The civil aviation ministry has directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to install a new Air Traffic Services Message Handling System (AMHS) within the next 90 days, replacing the existing software that has experienced repeated technical issues.

Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu and aviation secretary Samir Kumar Sinha visited the Delhi Air Traffic Control (ATC) centre on Friday night and stayed there with a team of senior officials until 2 AM. They returned to the facility again on Saturday evening to review the situation and assess progress on the planned system upgrade.

Overworked and exhausted air traffic controllers (ATCOs) at Delhi’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) have long been asking for basic facilities such as a tea or coffee vending machine in the tower, as the canteen closes at night despite ATC operations running round the clock. Their request was raised during discussions with aviation secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, who is understood to have approved it immediately.

In July, the ATCOs’ Guild of India had warned that “current systems, especially at major airports like Delhi and Mumbai, have experienced performance degradation directly impacting operational efficiency and safety margins.” Following the AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, the guild wrote to Members of Parliament on 8 July, urging that “automation systems used in air navigation services (be) periodically reviewed and upgraded to meet future demands.”

The technical snag that affected the Air Message Switching System (AMSS) on Friday night was resolved later the same evening. On Saturday, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) posted on X that “all flight operations are normal.”

‘People Who Drive A Thar Must Be Crazy’: Haryana Top Cop’s Comment

OP Singh, Haryana DGP, claimed Mahindra Thar drivers often engage in stunts and reckless acts, linking the vehicle to rising traffic violations and safety concerns in the state.

OP Singh, the Director General of Police for Haryana, stirred controversy when he asserted that individuals driving a Mahindra Thar are likely engaging in reckless behaviour. He made these remarks while outlining traffic-enforcement protocols and emphasising the visibility of certain vehicles to police teams.

Speaking to the press, Singh said:

“If it’s a Thar, how can we let it go? … People who drive Thars perform stunts on the road.”

He went on to suggest that the vehicle is treated as a symbolic choice rather than simply a mode of transport:

“The Thar is not a car, it’s a statement which says ‘this is how I am’.”

Singh pointed to recent incidents of dangerous driving and stunts involving Thars—such as passengers riding on roof racks or standing on sideboards—linking these behaviours with the vehicle’s image among some young drivers.

A four-year-old girl is critical after she was allegedly abducted from a railway shed, sexually abused, and left in a bloody state next to a drain in Hooghly near Kolkata.

The girl, belonging to the Banjara community, was sleeping next to her grandmother when she was picked up on the night of November 7. She is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tarakeswar.

The girl’s family told the police that she was sleeping on a cot under a mosquito net at a railway shed in Tarakeswar when the perpetrator cut through the cloth and took her. Her grandmother said she realised she was missing around 4 am.

“She was sleeping with me. Around 4 am, someone took her away. I didn’t even realise when she was taken. I don’t know who the people were who took her away. They cut the mosquito net and took her away,” the grandmother said.

The child was found naked in a pool of blood near the Tarakeswar railway high drain the next afternoon (November 8) and was rushed to a hospital. Her grandmother brought attention to their vulnerable living situation.

“We live on the streets because they have demolished our houses. Where do we go? We don’t have any homes,” she said.

A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. But the ruling Trinamool Congress drew sharp criticism from the opposition BJP, which alleged that there was a delay in filing the FIR as the police initially hesitated to do so.

“The child was asleep beside her maternal grandmother under a mosquito net when the accused allegedly cut through it and took her away. After hours of frantic searching, she was found near a drain bleeding, unclothed, with bite marks on her cheek. Despite hours of treatment, she is still bleeding from her genitals,” said Parna Adak, Arambagh district BJP secretary.

Leader of the opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the police were trying to suppress the facts in the case. Calling Mamata Banerjee a “failed chief minister”, he claimed there is a “fake law and order image” in her “free-for-all regime”.

Modi Govt’s Big Plans For 2026 BRICS Presidency: ‘Project Strong Image Of India’

Similar to India’s earlier G20 presidency, the goal is to present a country-wide, pan-India BRICS image while showcasing India’s rich culture and heritage

BRICS meetings are expected to be held across all 28 states and 9 union territories, covering approximately 60 cities. (File image)

The Narendra Modi government has ambitious plans for hosting the presidency of BRICS starting January 1, 2026, aiming to build and project a strong brand image for India during its tenure, according to a document seen by CNN-News18. US President Donald Trump has described BRICS as an “attack on the US dollar” and justified tariffs against member countries.

BRICS meetings are expected to be held across all 28 states and 9 union territories, covering approximately 60 cities. Similar to India’s earlier G20 presidency, the goal is to present a country-wide, pan-India BRICS image while showcasing India’s rich culture and heritage, as stated in the document accessed by CNN-News18. A BRICS theme song, lasting 3-4 minutes, may be composed by a renowned Indian musician of international repute who has experience in world music and performing at prestigious international forums or is a recipient of global awards.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organisation with 11 full members and 10 partner countries, including India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Upon attaining the presidency of BRICS for 2026, India is keen to effectively showcase its position on both national and international levels, as per the document. India has played a crucial role in developing the agenda for institutional reforms, climate finance, digital governance, and strengthening the voice of the global south, the document reveals.

The government will undertake a branding and publicity campaign for India’s BRICS presidency to popularise the BRICS logo, themes, priorities, and outcomes to a wide audience, both domestically and internationally.

Planned Activities

A list of planned activities includes a BRICS-themed kite festival, projection of the BRICS logo through ecological diyas during Diwali, holographic representations of the BRICS logo in various cities, a Republic Day tableau, and branding on airlines used for delegate transportation.

The government also plans BRICS branding and publicity during state festivals such as the Kerala boat festival, the International Sand Art Festival of Odisha, and the Goa carnival. Additionally, the BRICS logo will be projected on public transport like metro systems, state buses, and railways. Other initiatives include drone swarms in cities and possible collaborations with food festivals for a BRICS-themed food fest.

First in history, President Murmu begins 6-day visit to Angola and Botswana

President Droupadi Murmu has begun a historic six-day visit to Angola and Botswana, the first-ever by an Indian head of state to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, energy, defence, and people-to-people cooperation.

President Droupadi Murmu has begun a historic six-day visit to Angola and Botswana.

President Droupadi Murmu reached Angola on Saturday in the first-leg of her six-day state visit to the African country, followed by neighbouring Botswana.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has described the two-nation visit between November 8–13 as a part of India’s efforts to open up new avenues for collaboration and expanding partnership with the two countries in the African region.

This is the first-ever state visit by an Indian head of state to these countries, as per the MEA.

Murmu was received at the international airport in the Angolan capital of Luanda by the country’s Minister of External Relations, Tete Antonio, apart from other senior officials from both countries.

During the next three days here, the president will hold high-level engagements, including bilateral talks with her Angolan counterpart Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, and also attend the 50th anniversary celebrations of the African nation’s independence.

The president is also scheduled to address the Angolan parliament and interact with members of the Indian community.

“India and Angola enjoy very close ties of friendship and cooperation which have been growing across sectors. We have a vibrant energy partnership with Angola,” Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, said at a press briefing on Thursday.

The visit will provide an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral ties and to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, health, energy, trade and investments, technology, infrastructure development, defence and people-to-people connections, he said.

The secretary also said that the visit was “significant” even as the two countries are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year.

Murmu, on November 11, will start the second leg of her visit and travel to Botswana’s capital Gaborone.

As part of her engagements there, she will meet her counterpart, Duma Gideon Boko, address the national assembly and attend an event related to translocation of cheetahs to India as part of Project Cheetah.

“We are confident that the visit of Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji will further strengthen India’s long-standing collaborative ties with Angola and Botswana, and open up new avenues for collaboration and expanding our partnership.

Can’t our children sing patriotic songs? Kerala school writes to PM amid RSS row

In his letter to PM Modi, the school’s principal, Dinto K.P. pointed out that Southern Railway’s official X handle deleted the post “after 2 Malayalam news channels, 24 News, and Media 1, criticised the song as being associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.”

Amid the raging row over an “RSS song” sung by students at a Vande Bharat launch event in Kerala on Saturday, the school, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clarified that it was a patriotic Malayalam number titled “Paramapavitramathamie Mannil Bharathambaye Poojikkan” and contained no words challenging the secular fabric or national unity of the country.

The letter ended by asking whether the students were wrong to sing a patriotic song. “Our humble question is: Can’t our children sing a patriotic song that praises our motherland? Such actions discourage the spirit of nationalism among young minds.”

The school went on to highlight that while parents, students, and staff “felt immensely proud,” the removal of the tweet from Southern Railway’s official X account had “deeply saddened our students, staff, parents, and well-wishers.”

“The song contains no words or sentiments against secularism or national unity. It only expresses reverence towards Bharat Mata and pride in our nation,” the letter to the PM further read.

However, in an edited tweet on Saturday evening, Southern Railway posted a video of the students singing, saying, “The students of Saraswathi Vidyalaya beautifully performed their school song during the inaugural run of the Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express.”

Earlier, Kerala’s ruling CPM and the opposition Congress came down heavily over the incident, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan calling the move “highly condemnable” and “a blatant violation of constitutional principles.”

Following Vijayan’s attack, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said that he had written to the Railway Minister, demanding an explanation for why school students were asked to sing the RSS song at the launch event.

“A public event was converted into an RSS function and the Southern Railway’s official X handle proudly shared this as well. This is a blatant misuse of Indian Railways, a national institution that belongs to every citizen, not any divisive ideology,” he said.

ISIS recruiter, murder convict seen using phones, watching TV in Bengaluru jail

Videos of high-risk inmates using phones and watching TV at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail have triggered a probe into serious security lapses and preferential treatment.

Allegations of major security lapses and preferential treatment have surfaced at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail after videos showed notorious inmates using mobile phones and watching television inside the facility.

Among those seen using mobile phones inside the high-security prison are Telugu actor Tarun, a co-accused in the sensational gold smuggling case involving actor Ranya Rao; Juhad Hameed Shakeel Manna, a notorious recruiter for the terror group ISIS; and serial rapist and killer Umesh Reddy, who was also caught watching television inside his cell.

It has also been alleged that Shakeel Manna was in contact with his associates outside the jail.

After the undated videos, which recently surfaced on social media, triggered serious security concerns, the prison authorities said on Saturday that an internal inquiry has been launched to verify the authenticity of the footage and identify those responsible.

“Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” sources told news agency PTI.

This is not the first time the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, which houses several high-risk inmates, has faced scrutiny. In October, a video showing a notorious rowdy-sheeter, Srinivas, also known as Gubbachi Seena, celebrating his birthday behind bars went viral.

Accused in a murder case, Srinivas was seen cutting a cake and wearing an apple garland, surrounded by fellow inmates. Videos and photos of the celebration, reportedly recorded on mobile phones and later shared on social media, once again raised serious questions about security, oversight, and accountability within the prison system.

Last year, a photograph emerged showing Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, currently lodged in prison in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, receiving VIP treatment inside the jail. Darshan was seen seated on a chair, holding a cigarette and a coffee mug, while chatting with fellow inmates, including history-sheeter Wilson Garden Naga.

HOME MINISTER PROMISES ACTION

Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwara said such violations cannot be tolerated and confirmed that he has already sought a detailed report on the matter. He added that a high-level meeting will soon be convened to address the serious issue.

“Such things cannot be tolerated. If this continues, it cannot be called a jail anymore. I will call a meeting of senior police officers and take this issue seriously. I have asked for a report, and if it is not satisfactory, I will form another committee. If the police report fails to bring clarity, we will conduct a separate investigation. No one, whether a terrorist or anyone else, should have access to a phone.

Indians who fled a Myanmar cyberscam center are being flown home from Thailand

1 of 3 | India repatriated Thursday the first batch of hundreds of its nationals who last month fled to Thailand from Myanmar, where most had been working at a notorious center for online scams. An Indian air force transport plane left Thailand with about 270 out of 465 Indians who are to be repatriated.

India is repatriating on Thursday the first batch of hundreds of its nationals who last month fled to Thailand from Myanmar, where most had been working at a notorious center for online scams.

The center, known as KK Park on the outskirts of the border city of Myawaddy and said to house a major cybercrime operation, was raided by Myanmar’s army in mid-October to suppress cross-border online scams and illegal gambling.

An Indian air force transport plane left Thailand en route to India and another plane was to leave later in the day, with about 270 out of 465 Indians who are to be repatriated. The remainder will leave Thailand next Monday, according to Maj. Gen. Maitree Chupreecha, commander of the Thai army’s northern region Naresuan Task Force.

In March, India repatriated 549 nationals after an earlier crackdown on cybercrime operations at the Myanmar-Thai border.

Those currently being repatriated are among more than 1,500 people from 28 nations who fled the raid in Myawaddy. Across the border in the Thai town of Mae Sot, Thai authorities had set up temporary facilities for housing and processing not just Indians, but also Chinese, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Ethiopians and Kenyans, among other nationalities.

In April, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime estimated that hundreds of industrial-scale scam centers generate just under $40 billion in annual profits.

Southeast Asia is the world epicenter for online scams, and hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been lured to work in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos, where many were forced to perpetrate global scams involving false romances, fraudulent investments, and illegal gambling.

Human trafficking is another major criminal aspect of such operations as many of the workers were recruited under false pretenses offering legitimate jobs, only to find themselves trapped in virtual slavery.

State media in military-run Myanmar said the raid on KK Park was part of operations starting in early September to suppress cross-border online scams and illegal gambling. Since the raid, witnesses and the Thai army have said that that parts of KK Park were demolished by explosions.

However, independent Myanmar media, including The Irrawaddy, an online news service, have reported that organized criminal scams in Myanmar continue to operate in the Myawaddy area.

The cybercrime problem received major attention last month when the United States and Britain enacted sanctions against organizers of a major Cambodian cyberscam gang, and its alleged ringleader was indicted by a U.S. federal court in New York.

In South Korea, the case of a young man, killed after apparently being lured to work at a cyberscam operation in Cambodia, caused an uproar.

Cough syrup deaths: Drug regulator orders pharmaceutical factories to meet global standards by January

Firms that do not fall under the extension criteria should be inspected immediately, the notice said.

New Delhi: India’s drug regulator on Friday ordered state authorities to ensure all pharmaceutical factories comply with international manufacturing standards by January, rejecting industry pleas for more time after toxic cough syrup was linked to additional child deaths since September.

The government had directed drugmakers in late 2023 to upgrade plants to World Health Organization-recommended norms, including measures to prevent cross-contamination and enable batch testing.

The move followed global outrage after India-made cough syrups were tied to the deaths of more than 140 children in Africa and Central Asia, tarnishing the country’s reputation as the “pharmacy of the world.”

Large pharmaceutical firms met a June 2024 deadline, while smaller manufacturers were given until December 2025 as part of an earlier extension. Industry groups had sought further extensions, warning that compliance costs could bankrupt small businesses.

But the deaths of 24 children in central India linked to contaminated syrup prompted authorities to hold firm.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation said in a notice, seen by Reuters, that the revised standards under “Schedule M” will apply to all manufacturers from January 1, and directed state regulators to begin inspections.

“In case any manufacturing unit is found non-complying with the requirements of revised Schedule M during inspections, strict action shall be initiated,” the notice, signed by Drugs Controller General Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, said.

She was bullied, teacher ignored complaint: Parents of girl, 9, who jumped to death

The parents of nine-year-old Amayra, who died after jumping from the fourth floor of her Jaipur school, have accused the teacher and school administration of ignoring her repeated bullying complaints and alleged a cover-up.

Nine-year-old Amayra jumped from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School on On November 1.

The parents of a nine-year-old girl who jumped to her death from the fourth floor of a private school in Jaipur have accused a teacher of ignoring their daughter’s repeated complaints about being bullied by her classmates, even on the day of the incident.

They alleged that the girl had approached the teacher at least four times, complaining about being bullied by some boys in her class, and that the parents themselves had raised the issue with the school on earlier occasions.

“She had complained to me several times about being bullied in class. Some boys used to disrespect her and tease her by linking her name with another boy. I had approached the teacher regarding this matter, but she was very insensitive,” the girl’s mother, Shivani, told India Today.

On November 1, nine-year-old Amayra jumped from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School, a height of nearly 48 feet, in an incident her parents described as “beyond imagination” for a child who was “happy and bright.” She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The tragic event was captured on CCTV, which showed her climbing onto the railing before jumping.

According to the mother, the bullying had intensified last year and continued this year since the same set of students remained in her section. “I had complained once or twice last year too. I even told the principal, Indu ma’am, about what was happening to Amayra inside the classroom,” she added.

Air Pollution Killing Indians Daily, Time For A National Clean Air Mission: Ex-WHO Chief Scientist

Calling it a ‘silent killer’, Dr Soumya Swaminathan said air pollution is damaging the lungs, hearts and brains of Indians and must be tackled as a public health emergency

India’s air quality standards remain far weaker than the WHO’s safe limits. (PTI Photo)

India can no longer afford to treat air pollution as a seasonal or environmental issue — it is now a full-blown public health crisis claiming lives every day, Dr Soumya Swaminathan told News18 in an exclusive conversation. The former WHO Chief Scientist and public health expert has called for a National Clean Air Mission, warning that toxic air is damaging lungs, hearts and even developing brains.

Swaminathan said air pollution has emerged as one of the top health risk factors in India, contributing to heart attacks, strokes, dementia and cancers. “It is cutting many years from our lives,” she said.

She pointed out that India’s air quality standards remain far weaker than the WHO’s safe limits — 40 µg/m³ for PM2.5 compared with the global benchmark of 5 µg/m³ — and yet, “even that 40 is not achieved across much of northern India.”

The former WHO scientist warned that prolonged exposure is driving a rise in lung cancer among non-smokers. “It’s like smoking twenty or thirty cigarettes a day,” she said, adding that infants and children are the most vulnerable.

As a paediatrician, Swaminathan underlined that the damage begins even before birth, with studies showing a higher risk of low birth weight and premature babies among mothers exposed to high pollution levels. “It not only affects lung development but also impacts the brain,” she said.

She added that indoor air pollution remains an overlooked hazard. “Many poor families still rely on firewood or dung for cooking because LPG refills are unaffordable,” she said. The result is chronic exposure for women and children inside their homes.

According to the State of Global Air 2024 report, about 1.7 lakh Indian children under five died in 2021 due to air pollution — a figure Dr Swaminathan cited to show the scale of harm. “We are setting them up for a lifetime of ill health,” she said, warning that pollution-driven inflammation raises the risk of diabetes, neurological disorders and chronic lung disease.

She stressed that investing in clean air is not just moral or medical, but economically smart. “The World Bank estimates every dollar invested gives six dollars in return,” she said.

For immediate protection, she recommended air purifiers in schools, N95 masks on high-AQI days, and limiting outdoor activity for children when pollution peaks. But she warned these are only stopgap measures. “No one can isolate themselves from the air they breathe. The only solution is collective national action.”

Swaminathan, a global expert in tuberculosis and HIV research, has urged the government to adopt a mission-mode, multi-sector National Clean Air Plan, backed by empowered governance and financing — a programme she compared to India’s successful large-scale drives such as the polio elimination campaign and Swachh Bharat Mission. “We achieved what looked impossible before — polio elimination and massive sanitation coverage — and we can do this for clean air too,” she said.

Dog lovers slam Supreme Court order on relocation of strays: ‘…it’s their home’

Activists said the ruling violates the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, which require sterilised and vaccinated dogs to be released back to the same area.

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that stray dogs will no longer be allowed on the premises of schools, hospitals, transport hubs or sports complexes, and directed that they be removed and relocated to shelters after sterilisation and vaccination.

The order, aimed at preventing dog attacks and improving safety in public spaces, has drawn sharp criticism from animal rights groups, who called it “impractical, inhumane, and contrary to national animal welfare law.”

Activists said the ruling violates the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, which require sterilised and vaccinated dogs to be released back to the same area they were picked up from.

“Dogs living on school or railway premises cannot be relocated—it’s their home. The ABC Rules are clear that every dog must be sterilised, vaccinated, and released back. Making exceptions undermines the very basis of animal rights,” said independent activist Sonyaa Khanna.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Maneka Gandhi, former Union minister and animal welfare advocate, said, “The Supreme Court is asking every municipal body and district magistrate to remove dogs from schools, hospitals, railway stations and bus stops, and build walls around these spaces. How will they build walls at bus stops or railway stations? How will they stop dogs from returning?”

She added, “Ninety-five percent of bite cases happen due to relocation. If roughly 35 lakh dogs are taken out of their territories, where will they go? There are no shelters, and even if they are built, who will fund them?” Gandhi said the more sustainable approach would be to expand sterilisation facilities. “We need 700 ABC centres for 700 districts. In two years, the population can fall from 1.35 crore to 60 lakh. Right now, only 50 districts have such centres,” she said.

Other activists warned that the order could worsen the problem. “It’s a problematic directive, similar to the one issued on August 11. We don’t have enough shelters, and there’s no clarity on how new dogs will be kept out of cleared areas. Chasing them away only makes them aggressive,” said Asher Jesudoss, member of the Delhi Animal Welfare Board.

“The ABC centres in Delhi are in terrible shape. We need to fix what exists before building new systems. This is not scientific population management,” he added.

Gauri Maulekhi, trustee of People for Animals – Public Policy Foundation, said vague court directions were already being misused. “In recent months, we’ve seen dogs being illegally lifted, dumped outside cities, and brutalised. Caregivers, many of them women, have been threatened. Today’s order, without safeguards, will only deepen the crisis,” she said.

Independent activist Salman Ali said the ruling went against “both the rights and dignity of dogs,” urging the government to focus on proper implementation of the ABC programme instead.

At Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College, students expressed dismay at the order. “Our students love the campus dogs, so we took the most practical step—vaccinating them to keep everyone safe. The Supreme Court’s proposal feels impractical and impossible to enforce,” said principal Dinesh Khattar.

Nigerian Man Staying In India Illegally For Over 10 Years Deported

43-year-old Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, a resident of Imo State, Nigeria, had initially arrived in Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa.

The deportation is part of Hyderabad’s intensified crackdown on foreign nationals overstaying their visas

A Nigerian national who had been residing in India illegally for over a decade has been deported by the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), in a coordinated effort with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

The deportation is part of H-NEW’s intensified crackdown on foreign nationals overstaying their visas and engaging in illegal activities, particularly drug smuggling.

43-year-old Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, a resident of Imo State, Nigeria, had initially arrived in Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa.

According to the police, he later moved frequently between Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Investigators confirmed that his passport and visa had long since expired, rendering his stay illegal.

Acting on credible intelligence, H-NEW apprehended Okoro, who uses aliases including ‘Hopy Cup’ and ‘Jeksa,’ within the limits of Hyderabad’s Asif Nagar Police Station.

Although no narcotics were seized at the time of his arrest, the authorities confirmed his prolonged illegal residence and suspected involvement in drug-smuggling activities, a means, officials believe, by which he was earning easy money.

Following his detention, H-NEW and the FRRO worked closely to verify his identity and secure the necessary travel documents, culminating in his deportation back to Nigeria.

The police say “swift action” was taken to prevent the individual from continuing illegal activities “detrimental to national security”.

This deportation highlights a persistent challenge for law enforcement in Telangana regarding foreign nationals who enter the country legally but overstay their welcome and integrate into local drug supply chains.

The H-NEW was established specifically to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse in the city. The agency often tracks foreign nationals, particularly those whose visas have expired, who are allegedly leveraging their illegal status to engage in low-risk, high-reward drug distribution, often targeting students and young professionals.

Since its formation, the H-NEW has focused on both disrupting the supply of drugs and removing the network of illegal foreign residents involved in the trade. This latest action against Okoro adds to a growing list.

Police sources indicate that H-NEW has deported at least 22 foreign nationals for illegal stays and other undesirable activities since its inception, with a significant number occurring this year alone.

India in talks to create bigger banks, including via mergers, finance minister says

India needs more “big banks” and efforts are underway to achieve that goal, including the possibility of consolidating some state-run banks, the country’s finance minister said on Thursday.
India has 12 state-owned banks, which together held assets totaling 171 trillion rupees ($1.95 trillion) as of March, representing 55% of the nation’s banking sector.

The Indian government in 2020 consolidated 27 banks into 12 to form larger entities. It is also considering allowing higher foreign investment in state-owned lenders, Reuters reported last month.

“India needs a lot of big, world class banks, and for that we will have to talk with the Reserve Bank (of India) and banks, and to see how they want to take it forward,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
The government will also discuss the idea of building larger banks with the RBI, she said. The minister was responding to a question on whether the government is discussing further bank consolidation and higher foreign investment limits for public sector banks.
“So there’s a lot of work to do prior to my saying yes. Work has already commenced and we are discussing with the RBI and banks,” she said.

Sitharaman said the consolidation of existing public sector banks can also be one of the routes to create bigger banks.
“But you need an ecosystem in which more banks can operate to grow, and that environment is well established in India but I need it to be a bit more dynamic… some work is happening on it,” she said.

Protesting sugarcane farmers in Karnataka allegedly threw slippers at State Minister Shivanand Patil’s car when he was leaving the protest site in Belagavi on November 6.

The protest by sugarcane farmers demanding a higher price for their produce entered its eighth day in Belagavi on Thursday.

The Karnataka Minister met the protesting farmers in Belagavi.

Addressing reports of a possible National Highway blockade, Minister Shivananad Patil said, “I am here to make an appeal, not to escalate the situation. The power to fix sugarcane prices does not lie with the state government–it is under the jurisdiction of the Central Government. The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) is decided by the Centre. The Union Minister for Sugar, who is also from our state, has not yet taken any initiative. The authority and responsibility to resolve this issue rest with the Central Government.”

Earlier, Patil informed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will meet with all sugar mill owners across the state on Friday, and that the final decision will be taken there.

“Tomorrow, the Chief Minister has convened a meeting with all sugar mill owners across the state. A final decision will be taken there. Based on that outcome, we will determine how best to extend support to our farmers. The farmers’ protest so far has been sincere, and we will make every effort to strengthen their movement. I will personally visit the protest site tomorrow,” Patil told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an urgent appointment to discuss the “serious situation arising out of the ongoing agitation by sugarcane farmers” in North Karnataka, particularly in Belagavi, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Vijayanagara, Bidar, Gadag, Hubli-Dharwad and Haveri districts.

Veteran Kannada Actor Harish Rai Passes Away: KGF’s ‘Chacha’ Dies After Battle With Thyroid Cancer, DK Shivakumar Pays Tribute

Veteran Kannada Actor Harish Rai Passes Away: KGF’s ‘Chacha’ Dies After Battle With Thyroid Cancer, DK Shivakumar Pays Tribute

Veteran Kannada actor Harish Rai, widely recognised for his memorable performances in films such as Om and K.G.F: Chapter 1, bid farewell on Thursday (6 November 2025). He passed away at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bengaluru, where he had been undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer.

Reports indicate that Rai’s illness had metastasised to his stomach, leaving him extremely weak. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

He earned a special place in the hearts of audiences as “Don Rai” in Om and as “Chacha” in the K.G.F. series. In a public tribute on X (formerly Twitter), Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar described Rai’s death as “an extremely sorrowful event”, noting that the film industry has grown poorer with his passing. He added:

“The film industry has become poorer with the death of Harish Roy, who was suffering from cancer… I pray that his soul attains peace and that God grants strength to his family and loved ones, who are in pain from his departure. Om Shanti.”

Earlier, a social media influencer visited Rai and shared footage of him appealing publicly for financial assistance. In the video, he expressed a desire to return to acting if his health improved, and revealed the high cost of his treatment, stating one injection alone cost ₹3.55 lakh. Each treatment cycle required three such injections over 63 days, totalling approximately ₹10.5 lakh per cycle — with some patients needing 17–20 injections, bringing potential treatment costs to around ₹70 lakh.

Rai’s career spanned Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films. Among his notable works were Om, Samara, Bangalore Underworld, Jodi Hakki, Raj Bahadur, Sanju Weds Geetha, Swayamvara, Nalla, and both parts of the K.G.F. series.

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma was elated upon meeting the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with her team, after their victory at the recently concluded Women’s World Cup. She said that she felt special being addressed as ‘DSP’ by the PM. Deepti, who won the Player of the Tournament for her wicket-taking spree at the World Cup, also revealed that the PM knew everything about everyone and was aware of her Instagram bio as well as her favourite dish, which is paneer. Deepti Sharma is Deputy Superintendent in Uttar Pradesh Police.

“I’m feeling very happy, and it feels really good because everyone has been waiting for this moment for a long time. The dream of all Indians – and mine too – has come true by winning the World Cup trophy. History has been created, and I think everyone will remember this for a long time – we will too – and right now, we’re enjoying this moment,” Deepti told IANS.

“The meeting with him went really well, and his words were very motivating for us. It’s great to have met him. Today, we also met the President, and it felt great meeting her as well. When the Prime Minister speaks, I feel like I could just keep listening to him; I really enjoy his speeches – they’re always wonderful. He motivated us to keep moving forward and said that his blessings are with us. He told us that we are doing very well, which is a matter of great pride for the country, and that he hopes we continue to do great in the future too.

“He took time out of his valuable schedule for us, and we spoke with him for quite some time. He also talked about Lord Hanuman and already knew that I am a great devotee of Hanuman Ji. He knew about my Hanuman tattoo, and I told him that it gives me a lot of motivation. I told him that whenever I feel low, I remember Hanuman Ji and come out of that phase. He even knew that I write ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on Instagram – that was a big thing for me, that he follows and keeps track of everything. Hearing that made me feel really good. He also knew that paneer is my favourite food, and he mentioned that paneer is one of his favourite dishes too – that was also really nice to hear. Whether I feel high or low, I always keep chanting Hanuman Ji’s name – it gives me great motivation every time. Along with my family, He is my biggest strength; He gives me power and energy. Even Modi Ji believes in Hanuman Ji, and that’s why he has such positive vibes,” she added.

Deepti also noted an interesting moment from her meeting with the PM and said she was elated to be addressed as ‘DSP’ by the political stalwart.

“It felt wonderful when the first words he said were, ‘DSP, you tell us.’ I liked the way he addressed me like that.”

Deepti also mentioned that the PM urged members of the women’s team to support the less privileged sections of society and help talented girls pursue their dreams of playing the sport. She hoped that parents would support girls in their sporting pursuits and motivate them to perform well whenever they compete. The spin-bowling all-rounder believes that India’s World Cup victory will lead to a shift in people’s mindsets.

“He told us that wherever we go, we should support young girls – especially those from areas where they don’t have many opportunities to play – so that India’s name can shine in sports. It feels good when anyone supports players from any sport, whether it’s an individual or a team game. When we support each other, it creates a positive mindset – it feels like someone is standing behind us, watching and cheering for us. Of course, the whole world is watching, but when Modi Ji says, ‘You just keep playing, we are with you,’ it feels really good to hear that. I hope everyone watched the World Cup and learned a lot from it.

“I would like as many girls as possible to take up cricket and move forward in sports. I also want their families to support them – not to stop them from playing, but to encourage and motivate them. We too moved forward step by step, and by winning the World Cup final, we changed people’s mindsets. Everyone’s thinking has evolved – now even in families, parents are saying that they want their daughters to play, especially cricket. I truly believe that many individuals’ interest in the sport has grown – I’ve felt this change over the years. Definitely, there has been a positive shift, especially in the minds of parents,” she further added.

Over 1.64 Lakh Duplicate Voter Entries Found Through AI Analysis In Kaushambi | PTI

The State Election Commission has uncovered major discrepancies in the Kaushambi voter list, identifying more than 1.64 lakh duplicate entries through artificial intelligence (AI) analysis. The move comes ahead of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections.

Officials revealed that several individuals were listed two or even three times in the same electoral roll. The list of duplicate voters has been forwarded to respective tehsils for verification. Kaushambi currently has 10,46,695 registered voters.

District Magistrate Dr. Amit Pal Sharma stated that Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have been instructed to conduct door-to-door verification through Booth Level Officers (BLOs). “Once verification is complete, only the genuine address of residence will remain on record, and all duplicate entries will be deleted,” he said.

The AI-assisted review is expected to make the voter list completely error-free before elections. BLOs have already started visiting homes to confirm voter identities and remove repeated names.

How can you call everyone else “dhoka”? Delhi High Court questions Patanjali’s new chyawanprash ad

Patanjali has been sued by Dabur over the advertisement published last month; the Court reserved its verdict on the interim injunction application.

Delhi high court, Dabur and Patanjali

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on Dabur’s plea for an interim injunction against Patanjali Ayurveda’s new advertisement, which had allegedly termed all other chyawanprash brands “dhoka” (fraud or deception) [Dabur India Limited v Patanjali Ayurved Limited & Anr].

During the hearing today, Justice Tejas Karia questioned Patanjali about how they can refer to chyawanprash prepared by other companies as “dhoka”.

He remarked that while Patanjali can claim to be the best, it cannot say that others are fraud.

“Use the word inferior, what’s the problem? This is not the representation [from the advertisement]. You are saying everyone is dhoka, and I am genuine. How can you call all other chyawanprash dhoka? You can say inferior, but you can’t call them fraud… Is there no other word available in the dictionary which can be used other than dhoka,” the Court asked.

The Court said that dhoka is a negative word.

“Dhoka is a negative word, derogatory. You are saying they are fraud and people are eating fraud,” the Bench remarked.

Dabur India has sued Patanjali, accusing them of defamation, disparagement and unfair competition over a recent television commercial for Patanjali Special Chyawanprash.

According to the plaint, the ad features Baba Ramdev warning consumers that “most people are being duped in the name of Chyawanprash,” calling other brands “Dhoka” (fraud or deception). The ad promotes Patanjali’s product as the only “original” Chyawanprash offering the “true power of Ayurveda.”

Dabur has alleged that the commercial deliberately maligns its own flagship product, Dabur Chyawanprash, which has dominated the market since 1949 with over 61% market share, and misleads consumers into distrusting all other Chyawanprash makers.

The plaint states that such messaging constitutes “generic disparagement” of the entire Chyawanprash category, eroding consumer faith in Ayurveda-based health supplements.

The company further accuses Patanjali of making false claims that its Chyawanprash contains “51 Ayurvedic herbs and saffron,” despite a 2014 government advisory deeming the same claim misleading.

Further, it contends that the use of “Special” as a prefix to a classical Ayurvedic medicine violates Rule 157(1-B) of the Drugs Rules, which prohibits deceptive labelling of Ayurvedic formulations.

Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi appeared for Dabur and stated that chyawanprash is a class of goods, and by referring to all other chyawanprash as dhoka, Patanjali was disparaging all of them.

“To call somebody dhoka is, per se, ex facie, disparaging. They may say ‘I don’t identify you’, but they paint everybody with the same brush… Coming from a self-proclaimed yoga guru, it is far more serious because people identify with a yoga guru with some sense of truthfulness,” Sethi said.

He added that Dabur is preparing its Chyawanprash as per the scriptures prescribed by the statute and if a product does that it cannot be called a dhoka.

“It is all being done to create panic. I have 100-year-old company. I have a 61% share. There have been 9 crore views [of the advertisement] in a matter of 5 days. This is how sensitive the people are,” he said.

Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar appeared for Patanjali to defend the commercial. He stated that the Patanjali advertisement is a puffery and hyperbole, which is permissible under the law.

“We have to see the entire meaning that the advertisement is conveying. Right or wrong, it is hyperbole. I am saying all others are ineffective. I am trying to convey that ‘forget about other chyawanprash, consume only mine’. I am allowed to say that I am the best. I am saying all others are inferior in comparison to mine,” he said.

He added that Dabur was being hypersensitive.

“There is no reference to the plaintiff. Why is he so hypersensitive? Just because he is the market leader?” he asked.

Further, Nayar stated that Dabur had filed a suit against Patanjali’s previous advertisement as well and failed to get an injunction against calling them “inferior”.

Faridabad stalker who shot teen arrested, says he fired in rage after rejection

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Faridabad for stalking and shooting a 17-year-old JEE aspirant after she refused to talk to him. The accused confessed he fired at her in a fit of rage, police said.

The accused (left) allegedly stalked the girl for days before the incident, as per police.

Faridabad Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old man accused of stalking and shooting a 17-year-old JEE aspirant in broad daylight earlier this week.

The accused, identified as Jitendra alias Jatin Mangla, allegedly confessed during interrogation that he opened fire at the girl in a fit of rage after she refused to talk to him, police said.

According to officials, the victim, Kanishka, a Class 12 science student, was returning home from the library in Faridabad’s Shyam Colony on Monday evening when Mangla attacked her. CCTV footage showed the accused waiting for her in the street, approaching her, and shooting at her at point-blank range. One bullet struck her shoulder, while another grazed her abdomen.

The teenager, a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony, was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she remains under treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable.

Police said an FIR was registered at City Ballabgarh police station, and a team from the Crime Branch, Sector 65, arrested Mangla from Sarmathla village near Sohna in Gurugram.

How UP cop Rishikant Shukla misused his power to build a hundred-crore empire

Rishikant Shukla, Deputy Superintendent of Police, was suspended after an SIT investigation uncovered a Rs 100-crore illicit asset empire. The probe reveals deep-rooted corruption, intimidation, and collusion with a criminal syndicate in Kanpur.

Suspended DSP Rishikant Shukla and his property in Kanpur

In a stunning revelation that has rocked the Uttar Pradesh Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rishikant Shukla has been suspended following an SIT investigation that unearthed assets worth nearly Rs 100 crore allegedly amassed through corruption, intimidation, and deep-rooted criminal collusion.

The probe has exposed how Shukla, once celebrated as an encounter specialist, allegedly used the fear of police encounters to extort property, silence victims, and build an illicit real estate empire across Kanpur.

THREATS, FALSE CASES, AND FEAR
According to testimonies collected by the SIT and multiple victims, Shukla systematically threatened builders, businessmen, and property owners by invoking his reputation as a dreaded encounter officer. Victims claim that he would trap people in false cases and force them to transfer their land or assets into his name – often at gunpoint.

One of the victims, Manohar Shukla (no relation), recounted how he lost land valued at Rs 60-70 crore. “We had purchased the land together,” Manohar said. “When the price rose, Rishikant offered Rs 7 crore for my share. I agreed because my wife was battling cancer. But when I went to collect the money, he pointed a pistol at me and said, ‘You won’t get any money.’ He took everything.”

Manohar claims there are many others too afraid to come forward, fearing the same fate.

COLLUSION AT THE CORE
The scandal deepens with Shukla’s alleged collusion with Kanpur-based lawyer and alleged criminal mastermind Akhilesh Dubey. According to police sources, Dubey ran a powerful syndicate with several officers, including Shukla, at its centre.

Dubey, leveraging his influence in the legal and police circles, would implicate people in fabricated criminal cases and then extort large sums in exchange for relief. Shukla, during his tenure as inspector in Kanpur, allegedly executed many of Dubey’s operations—filing false rape and land-grab cases to pressure targets into surrendering property or money.

Together, they settled numerous land disputes through intimidation, extortion, and fraud, amassing massive tracts of property across the city.

LAUNDERING THE LOOT
The SIT investigation has also revealed that Shukla funnelled his illicit earnings into Dubey’s construction company, using his wife, Prabha Shukla, as a front partner. The firm, according to officials, served as a money-laundering vehicle for ill-gotten wealth accumulated through years of extortion and manipulation.

Two other DSPs posted in Kanpur are also alleged to be partners in the same firm, which continued its business operations even after the officers were transferred to other districts.

“These officers invested crores of rupees in the construction company, using it to legitimise their black money,” an SIT officer said on condition of anonymity.

POLITICAL PATRONAGE AND THE SHIELD OF POWER

Despite mounting allegations over the years, no action was taken against Shukla until now – largely, sources say, due to his political connections and protection from powerful leaders.

This was evident earlier this year when Shukla hosted his son’s wedding at one of Kanpur’s most luxurious resorts. The guest list reportedly included senior police officials, MLAs, MPs, and local party leaders, underscoring the influence he wielded within both bureaucratic and political circles.

Rats Hunting Flying Bats In Rare Footage Sparks Fears Of Pandemics, New Disease Outbreaks

The never-before-seen footage shows two of animal kingdom’s most notorious disease carrying mammals getting horrifyingly close.

Night-vision footage from Germany shows a rat snatching bats mid-flight, marking the first documented case of such predatory behaviour, scientists say. (IMAGE: X)

The first-ever evidence of rats hunting bats mid-flight has alarmed scientists, raising concerns about potential new pathways for disease transmission and new pandemics as two of the animal kingdom’s most notorious carriers get dangerously close.

The night-vision footage, recorded at the entrances of two major urban bat colonies in northern Germany, shows rats leaping to snatch flying bats out of the air and eating them, which is a behaviour never documented before.

The video, which has since gone viral, has sparked fresh discussion among researchers about the risk of pathogen spillover between species that already play key roles in spreading infectious diseases.

The video was also described in a study published in the journal Global Ecology and Conservation.

“To our knowledge, this type of rat behaviour has not previously been documented scientifically,” Florian Gloza-Rausch, a biologist at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin and the lead author of the report, told the UK’s Telegraph.

Bats are vectors for a wide range of deadly diseases from coronaviruses to rabies and Ebola and account for about a fifth of all mammal species on earth.

Rats live close to humans and are found on every continent except Antarctica.

What Does The Footage Show?
Researchers had rigged night vision cameras at the entrances to a cave near an open-air theatre in the town of Bad Segeberg and in a rocky outcrop in a public park in Lüneburg.

Researchers recorded brown rats hunting bats at least 30 times as they entered and exited the cave in the cave in Bad Segeberg. The rats were successful 13 times.

Scientists found the remains of over 50 bats, including some that had not yet been fully eaten.

The footage, which the UK’s Telegraph in its report likened to “opening sequence of a pandemic disaster film”, shows a rat balancing on its hind legs in the darkness. It appears to be alert to the presence of numerous bats flying around it.

When the right moment arises, it grabs a small bat and sinks its teeth into its prey and carries it to away to eat it.

Researchers also observed that the rats “were frequently observed patrolling the landing platform at the cave entrance”.

“They were standing upright on their hind legs, using their tails for balance and raising their forelegs to intercept flying bats. Individuals were documented capturing bats mid-air, killing them immediately with a bite and dragging them away,” the researchers pointed out.

The scientists highlighted that even though rats have relatively poor eyesight, the bats were killed at night and the rats possibly detected their prey sensing the air currents from the bats’ wings or by feeling for them with their whiskers.

Tirupati Temple Plans To Use AI To Slash Pilgrim Wait Times To 2 Hours

The use of AI for darshan is intended to deliver a seamless, hassle-free pilgrimage experience by optimising crowd flow.

Plans are also underway to upgrade the Alipiri toll gate queue.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Board, led by Chairman B R Naidu, is planning to launch an ambitious digital drive to eliminate long queues and reduce the average pilgrim darshan waiting time to just two hours using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“There was some reluctance earlier to embrace AI technology. But we are keen to leverage technology to eliminate past discomforts and enhance transparency,” Naidu told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

The use of AI for darshan is intended to deliver a seamless, hassle-free pilgrimage experience by optimising crowd flow and drastically cutting down wait times, he explained.

Already, the recent reduction in ‘VIP Break Darshan’ timings has saved common devotees an average of two to 2.5 hours of waiting time, the TTD Chairman said.

Plans are also underway to upgrade the Alipiri toll gate queue, the entry point at the foothill, with advanced technology and scanners to increase entry speed.

To manage pilgrim flow, the TTD is considering building a new complex down the hill capable of accommodating approximately 25,000 devotees with food court facilities.

To curb online fraud and fake bookings, a dedicated Cyber Security Lab proposal is also being considered. The Chairman advised devotees to use only the official TTD website for services.

“There was one person who had created over 320 fake sites promising darshan,” Naidu said.

The Chairman also detailed several hardline policy decisions taken to protect the temple’s sacred environment and assets, including initiating actions to remove non-Hindu employees in line with legal provisions, a move he described as safeguarding the temple’s religious purity.

Naidu said TTD had successfully reclaimed 25 acres of sacred land around the seven hills, including plots previously allocated for the Alipiri Zoo Park and the proposed Mumtaz Hotel (an Oberoi Group property) by the previous administration.

Amendments to religious laws are also being sought to restrict commercial activities and promote only spiritual programs.

The TTD also intends to remove up to 1,500 illegal shops granted by the previous administration to restore the beauty and sanctity of the town.

Empty Monorail Train Hits Beam During Mumbai Test Run, 3 Staffers Injured

The accident occurred on a track crossover point right outside the Wadala depot when the monorail rake was being taken out for signalling trials.

There were no passengers on board the train when the incident occurred

An empty coach of a newly procured monorail train derailed and hit a beam during a test run at Wadala depot in Mumbai on Wednesday morning, leaving three staffers, including the train captain, injured and causing severe damage to the carriage, officials said.

There were no passengers on board the train when the incident took place, they said.

While Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), which operates the monorail, called it a “minor incident” and maintained nobody was injured, a civic official said three monorail employees suffered injuries and were treated at a hospital.

Regular monorail operations in the metropolis had been suspended on September 20 until further notice for system upgrade work in the wake of recurring technical glitches.

In photos and videos shared on social media, the train appeared slightly tilted. The first coach of the train hit the track beam, and its nose tossed in the air, and the rear portion of the coach tilted, which was removed from the track with the help of a heavy-duty crane in the evening, they said.

The accident was reported around 9 am. Two crew members were safely rescued from the monorail, a fire brigade official said.

The officials said the accident occurred on a track crossover point right outside the Wadala depot when the white-coloured monorail rake was being taken out for signalling trials.

An engineer of the company involved in the trial was accompanying the train captain and some other staffers, who were travelling to the nearest stations after signing off their duties, they said.

The first coach’s undergears, coupling, and bogies suffered major damage, along with the covers on the wheels, the officials said. From beneath the corridor, the train appeared stuck between two beams, with one side hanging in the air.

In a monorail system, the bogie or carriage sits below the elevated beam, carrying the wheels and suspension that guide and support the train along the beam.

MMMOCL has procured 10 four-coach monorail trains from Medha SMH Rail Pvt Ltd at Rs 55 crore each.

“During one of these routine signalling trials this morning, a minor incident occurred. The situation was immediately brought under control, and no injuries were reported to any staff or personnel,” the operator said.

The operator said the communication-based train control signalling technology is being tested on the monorail system, which is being implemented by Medha SMH, the designated contractor for the project.

The exercise was carried out in a fully protected environment, strictly adhering to all safety protocols, the MMMOCL said.

“These trials are designed to simulate extreme or worst-case scenarios to evaluate system responses and ensure complete preparedness before actual deployment. Hence, such controlled situations are a part of the standard testing process,” said the statement, adding regular trials on the mass-transit system will remain unaffected.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had set up a committee to conduct a detailed inquiry into the technical glitches that affected monorail services multiple times in the recent past, including the major disruption that occurred on August 19, when hundreds of passengers were stranded in two monorail trains at different locations.

Delhi bathed in dust, norms openly flouted

HT spot check across national capital finds violations of govt’s winter action plan.

Thick dust hangs over Sarojini Nagar due to the poor condition of roads in the area. (Hindustan Times/Raj K Raj)

Dust pollution control norms as well as the regulations related to disposal of construction and demolition waste are being openly flouted across the city, leaving surrounding areas covered in clouds of dust, an HT spot check has found.

Under its winter action plan, the Delhi government has mandated strict enforcement of 12-point dust-control norms, including green net scaffolding of project sites, covering of construction material, regular sprinkling of water on unpaved areas, as well as presence of functional anti-smog guns at larger sites. Additionally, all larger construction projects require registration and there has been a large-scale deployment of water sprinklers across the city.

The rules also say that vehicles carrying construction material and construction debris should be fully covered, and construction material should not be kept on roads or pavements.

However, despite repeated directions issued by Delhi government and a reduction in the number of self-compliance measures construction firms must follow earlier this year, an HT spot check in areas from east to west and north to south, including Sarojini Nagar, Ashram, Ghanta Ghar, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Trilokpuri, and Geeta Colony, found that the rules were being blatantly disregarded.

Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) has officially ranged between ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ since Diwali. According to the Central Pollution Control Board bulletins, particulate matter (PM)10 and PM2.5 are the lead pollutants.

On Wednesday, there was a marginal improvement to an increase in wind speed, with the CPCB data showing the 24-hour average AQI was 202 (poor) at 4pm, which further improved to at 197 (moderate) by 7pm.

However, an HT analysis of CPCB data shows missing data, suspicious measurement patterns, and algorithmic loopholes in how the city’s average AQI is calculated, which appear to have combined to produce readings that may not accurately reflect ground conditions.

Moreover, forecasts by the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) said the air quality is expected to go back to ‘very poor’ on Thursday. The dust in Delhi’s air has the potential to cause several health conditions as the respirable size of dust particles can get lodged in lungs, leading to both short and long term implications.

Violations aplenty

In Sarojini Nagar market, one of the popular commercial hubs in south Delhi, which is surrounded by construction sites on all sides, layers of dust covered furniture and display items; the leaves of trees were blanketed greyish-brown and a constant haze lay over the market’s avenues.

Dust particles were suspended in the air around the construction sites, which employ around 1,200 workers. An anti-smog gun that HT spotted hadn’t been used for days, workers said.

“The water sprinkler trucks take several rounds here throughout the day, but the relief is momentary,” said a 52-year-old female construction worker. She said she has had a cough and cold since she began working at the site three months ago. “We feel full of dust both outside and inside.”

According to Ashok Randhawa, who heads Sarojini Nagar mini market association, the one-time nominal water sprinkling in the morning has failed to tackle the problem. “Scindia Road, Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg and Vinayak Mandir Marg are completely covered in dust. After every couple of hours we need to dust the display items, which get covered in fine soot like particles. We cover our faces with handkerchiefs to reduce the amount of dust being inhaled everyday.”

The NBCC denied the allegations, saying that the Sarojini Nagar Redevelopment Project adheres to all the guidelines issued by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

“Comprehensive anti-pollution measures are implemented at the site on a regular basis. The claim that the anti-smog gun has not been operational in recent days is incorrect. The equipment is functional and operated multiple times daily, as per established site protocols,” it said.

Similar concerns were raised by shop owners around a construction site beneath central Delhi’s Ghanta Ghar Chowk, next to the Roshanara Bagh, where a metro line is being built. The construction site’s wind-breaker barriers were only around 6 feet in length, allowing dust to easily pass over them. DPCC construction norms say wind-breakers must not be less than 1/3rd of the height of the structure of the building. There is no rule for height of barriers near metro construction.

During HT’s spot check in the evening, the area was dusty and some passersby were either wearing masks or using their arms to cover their faces. Deepak, 42, who runs a shop in front of the construction, said, “The work has been going on since 2021, and is a huge problem for us. It is difficult even to breathe. We keep a whole box of face masks with us in the shop, and go through three or four a day.”

‘Brazilian model’s photo used for 22 voters in Haryana: Rahul Gandhi drops new ‘hydrogen bomb’

Citing the electoral roll to claim that 25.41 lakh voters were fake voters, Rahul said it would mean one in eight or 12.5 per cent voters in Haryana during the Assembly elections last October were fake.

New Delhi: A Brazilian model’s photograph used for 22 voters, a woman’s photo appearing in voters’ list 223 times in two booths, an unidentified house with 501 voters and UP politicians as voters are among “100 per cent proof” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi displayed on Tuesday to allege ‘sarkar chori’ (stealing government) in Haryana through 25 lakh “fake” voters.

An ‘FAQ’ shared by Congress called the expose a “hydrogen bomb on democracy” even as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha accused the EC of being in partnership with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to “destroy the democratic foundation” of the country and “systematically” helping the BJP.

Even as Rahul said he would be back with a similar presentation on Bihar claiming that ‘vote chori’ will happen, the Election Commission asked why Congress Booth Level Agents in Haryana did not file objections while Union Minister Kiren Rijiju alleged that the Congress leader was in collusion with anti-India forces while “making false and illogical claims” to hide his failures.

At his third press conference on ‘vote chori’ in three months, Rahul alleged five methods as part of a “centralised effort” to “convert the landslide victory” of his party “into a loss” in Haryana.

Playing a video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini saying two days before counting that the BJP would win and that “we have a ‘vyavastha’ (system) in place”, he said, “what exactly is this ‘vyavastha’ and  it includes duplicate voters, invalid addresses, registering bulk voters in single addresses, adding voters who are also registered in other states and targeted deletions.

Citing the electoral roll to claim that 25.41 lakh voters were fake voters, he said it would mean one in eight or 12.5 per cent voters in Haryana during the Assembly elections last October were fake. Despite that, he said Congress lost in eight seats cumulatively by just 22,779 votes. The difference between Congress and BJP votes in total were 1.18 lakh, he said.

He said there were 5.21 lakh voters with the same name and age among other details within the same seat. There were 1.2 lakh entries where voters share the same photograph but with different names and details.

“I was in shock, I simply could not believe what we found. I asked the team to cross check multiple times. I want young people, Gen Z to understand this clearly as your future is being stolen,” he said.

Displaying the picture of a woman he identified as a Brazilian model, Rahul said her photograph appears 22 times in ten booths in Rai constituency with names like Seema, Sweety and Saraswati. In Mulana, he said a woman’s photo appeared 223 times in two booths while in Tigaon, a woman’s photo appeared 100 times across 10 booths.

How Zohran Mamdani has taken the Kejriwal Model to New York

Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral win is historic, but his free bus ride pledge resembles the Kejriwal Model. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal wooed voters with free bus rides and other freebies in 2019. Mamdani’s socialist schemes, which hint at Indian-style populism, come in NYC, the heart of capitalist America.

Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral polls. It was a battle well fought against many odds, with nearly every political weapon aimed at the first Muslim, immigrant candidate of the world’s most iconic city. But what stands out even more is how Mamdani, a democratic socialist, appears to have taken a version of the Kejriwal Model from Delhi to New York. Ahead of the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls, then Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced free metro and bus rides for women in the national capital.

In a similar move, though worlds apart, Mamdani promised, along with other doles, to make city buses free in New York City. The free public bus rides seemingly resemble the women-centric welfare policies of Kejriwal and the AAP. The comparison might seem like a stretch to many, but the parallels of the two leaders in their approach to building a welfare-oriented society are more substantial than they first appear.

Mamdani’s main proposal is to eliminate fares on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) bus network. The plan would reportedly cost $1.2 billion per year and increase ridership by 20-30%, according to Riders Alliance, a New York-based non-profit organisation. These projections are derived from the fare-free bus experiments conducted by the MTA between 2020-2022, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mamdani’s free-bus plan would reportedly be funded by a 2% tax he plans to levy on incomes of over $1 million and reductions in corporate subsidies.

Mamdani’s proposal mirrors AAP’s ‘Pink Ticket’ scheme, which has provided free bus travel for women in Delhi since 2019. The Delhi scheme was funded by the state budget.

That initiative in Delhi led to a 25% surge in bus ridership, and played a significant role in AAP sweeping the 2020 Assembly election.

Before Mamdani took the Kejriwal Model to the US, it found wide political takers across India.

HOW KEJRIWAL AND MAMDANI MADE FREE RIDES POPULIST TOOL
Kejriwal didn’t invent free transit. Europe has been doing it for years. But the difference is that these are all socialist economies.

Luxembourg has nationwide free rides on buses, trams, and trains. Malta also has free local buses. France’s Dunkirk city eliminated fares on its urban network in 2018, and Estonia’s capital city, Tallinn, has given free rides to residents since 2013.

In Eastern Europe, Serbia’s capital city, Belgrade, started fare-free buses in October 2024 to increase ridership by 10%.

There, the initiative was aimed at curbing pollution, boosting public transport usage, and enhancing mobility — all while reinforcing the government’s commitment to public welfare.

But Kejriwal made it a political tool and targeted women to address mobility gaps, which increased the ridership by 10%.

Kejriwal said in a 2020 interview: “Women needed to get to work without fear or fare.” The programme in Delhi recorded over 100 million free trips by 2023 and led to similar initiatives in other Indian states, such as subsidies for women in Tamil Nadu and student passes in Punjab.

Karnataka also started providing free bus rides for women in 2023 through its Shakti scheme, which allows all female and transgender residents to travel for free on state-run buses.

And now, Mamdani has seemingly applied the same approach, but in the US, which has never seen the concept of “freebies” ever before.

In fact, Mamdani’s plan to introduce free bus rides comes in a city often seen as the epitome of capitalist ambition, yet also known for its liberal, left-leaning crowd.

One in five New Yorkers have admitted they struggled to pay for subway and bus fares in 2023, according to a report by Community Service Society of New York, an anti-poverty group, reported the New York Times. This makes Mamdani’s free bus rides promise important, especially for residents of neighbourhoods with limited access to trains.

‘Toilet Seats Broken, Flushes Won’t Work’: Woman Shares ‘Terrible’ Ordeal At Zakir Khan’s Delhi Show | VIDEO

Wellness coach Mitushi Ajmera’s viral video from Zakir Khan’s Delhi concert highlighted the lack of clean and accessible washrooms at Indira Gandhi Stadium. Her post sparked widespread support online, with many echoing her call that ”clean toilets are a basic necessity, not a privilege.”

A wellness coach identified as Mitushi Ajmera took to Instagram to share her “bad” experience at Zakir Khan’s concert held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, where she said she couldn’t find any clean washrooms and many were closed. In her video, she raised concerns for pregnant women who cannot use such dirty washrooms and emphasised that “clean washrooms should be a basic right, not a privilege.” Her video has resonated with many online.
Her video was titled, “Why do women avoid drinking water at events?” In the clip, she says, “Main Zakir Khan ke show mein gayi thi, Delhi ke Indira Gandhi Government Stadium mein. Full energy, performance immaculate — but saara josh neeche aa gaya jab main washroom gayi. Raaste mein aur bhi restroom areas dekhe jo band the. Band kyun the? Kya unme sona chandi laga hua hai? Aur jo ek do khule the, unka haal bahut kharab tha — seats tooti hui thi, flush nahi chal rahe the. 30–40 ladies line mein thi, jinme ek do pregnant ladies bhi thi, aur unhe un khubsoorat toilet mein restroom use karna pada.”
(“I went to Zakir Khan’s show at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Government Stadium. The energy was amazing, the performance was immaculate — but all my excitement vanished the moment I went to the washroom. I saw several restroom areas on the way, but they were locked. Why were they locked? What, were they made of gold or silver? And the few that were open were in terrible condition — the seats were broken, the flushes didn’t work. Around 30 to 40 women were standing in line, including a couple of pregnant women, who had no choice but to use those filthy toilets.”)

She further said,“Yeh wahi ladies hain jinhone tickets khareede the. Main wellness coach hoon aur main roz sunti hoon ki kitni ladies paani peena avoid karti hain jab wo aise events mein jaati hain ya travel karti hain, sirf isliye taaki unhe toilet use na karna pade. Aur iska result hota hai UTI, kidney issues, dehydration — sirf isliye kyunki unke basic sanitation par koi dhyaan nahi deta. Indira Gandhi Stadium ek government facility hai. Zakir Khan aur event organisers ne paise diye honge, toh toilets locked kyun the? Basic facility kyun missing thi?”

FPJ Exclusive: Lithium-6 Nuclear Reactor Placed For Sale On Grey Market; BARC Impostors Tried To Pitch Fusion Design To Iran

Accused Akhtar Hussaini and Adil Husaini, posing as BARC scientists, allegedly attempted to peddle lithium-6–based nuclear fusion reactor technology on the grey market, using encrypted networks and VPNs to circulate reactor blueprints and reach out to foreign research groups, including Iran-linked nuclear panels, under the guise of scientific collaboration.

The lithium-6–based nuclear fusion reactor technology was offered for sale on the international grey market by two individuals, Akhtar Hussaini Qutbuddin Ahmed (60) and his brother Adil Husaini (59), who have been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Delhi Special Cell for allegedly impersonating scientists from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay. Both the accused are from Jamshedpur with fake degrees in nuclear engineering.

Investigation by security agencies revealed that the accused had used virtual private networks (VPNs), and and encrypted channels to circulate classified lithium-6–based fusion reactor designs involving neutron absorption, tritium breeding, and plasma confinement. They covertly contacted foreign research groups, offering blueprints and simulation codes as part of a claimed breakthrough in controlled thermonuclear fusion. The probe revealed they exploited underground scientific exchange forums and encrypted broker networks to grey market this sensitive technology to foreign entities under the guise of academic or research collaboration, thereby masking an illicit technology transfer operation.

Statements of the accused persons accessed by The Free Press Journal (FPJ) revealed that the accused extensively used advanced scientific terminology related to nuclear reactor physics, isotope chemistry, and reactor-based energy generation, reflecting a deliberate attempt by the suspects to project technical authenticity and reinforce the credibility of their claims. Officials confirmed that the scientific complexity and precision of their references were so intricate that investigators had to seek assistance from plasma physics and nuclear engineering experts to interpret and verify the suspects’ claims accurately.

During interrogation, Akhtar Hussain reportedly admitted that he and his brother had shared portions of the lithium-6–based fusion reactor design with Iranian government–affiliated nuclear scientist research panels, some of which are believed to function under direct state sponsorship. The duo allegedly made multiple visits to the Iranian embassies in India and Dubai before traveling to Tehran in March–April 2025. According to their statements, the accused claimed that an Iranian diplomat they met in Mumbai was convinced of their authenticity after the accused presented their fabricated credentials, detailed operational charts, and reactor specifications while posing as senior BARC researchers. Acting on this deception, the diplomat is believed to have facilitated their interaction with members of a government-supported nuclear research consortium in Tehran, where the accused presented their purported reactor blueprint.

According to their recorded statements, the accused told Iranian nuclear experts that they had successfully developed and tested a lithium-6–based fusion reactor prototype, describing it as a “technological breakthrough” in controlled thermonuclear engineering. They allegedly claimed the reactor’s design featured automatic plasma–wall interaction control and self-regulated thermal equilibrium management within the fusion chamber, both key parameters for maintaining structural integrity during sustained high-energy plasma confinement.

The suspects further asserted that lithium 6 functioned as a neutron-absorbing and tritium-breeding isotope, enabling sustained deuterium–tritium fusion reactions within their proposed reactor system. Their blueprint was said to incorporate an adaptive plasma control interface capable of regulating neutron flux density and thermal dissipation through automated feedback mechanisms. However, experts engaged by the investigating agency, confirmed that the described model was entirely theoretical, lacking empirical validation, prototype fabrication, or operational demonstration in any recognized thermonuclear research facility or reactor complex worldwide.

Further analysis of their statements revealed that during interactions with the Iranian government–linked nuclear research panels, the accused also claimed to have experimented with a lithium-7–based fusion reactor prototype. They admitted the attempt had failed, attributing the outcome to plasma heating anomalies. The accused asserted that lithium-7, though more naturally abundant, is less effective for tritium breeding due to its lower neutron absorption cross-section compared to lithium-6. They cited “plasma heating failures” as the primary reason for the isotope’s inconsistency.

Subject-specific experts engaged by the investigating agencies concluded that the duo deliberately combined authentic nuclear terminologies, including isotopic references and plasma confinement principles, with fabricated experimental claims to construct a false narrative of scientific legitimacy. The intent, officials suspect, was to mislead foreign interlocutors and establish credibility for illicit technology transfer.

Trump Has Great Respect For PM Modi, Holding Trade Talks With India: US

US President Donald Trump said last week in South Korea that he wanted to reach a trade deal with India.

President Trump and Prime Minister Modi “speak pretty frequently”: White House

US President Donald Trump speaks often with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and trade teams from both countries continue to hold talks, the White House said on Tuesday.

“The president and his trade team continue to be in very serious discussions with India,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters. “I know the president has great respect for Prime Minister Modi, and they speak pretty frequently.”

Trump said last week in South Korea that he wanted to reach a trade deal with India – signaling a thaw in relations that soured to their lowest point in decades after the US president doubled tariffs on Indian imports to 50% as punishment for India’s purchases of Russian oil.

‘Goli Ka Jawab Goley Se’: Amit Shah’s Warning To Pakistan On Terror Attacks

Explosives manufactured in Bihar’s proposed defence corridor will be used against these terrorists, he said.

Bihar will go to the polls in two phases on November 6 and November 11.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday warned Pakistan-sponsored terrorists to refrain from further attacking India, asserting that if they repeat the mistake, “goli ka jawab goley se diya jayega” (they will face cannons for bullets).

Explosives manufactured in Bihar’s proposed defence corridor will be used against these terrorists, he said.

“Terrorists from Pakistan attacked our citizens in Pahalgam. They wiped off Sindoor from the foreheads of our mothers and sisters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi avenged it by launching Operation Sindoor within 20 days. The Indian Army neutralised the terrorists on Pakistani land,” Shah said at a poll rally in Bihar.

He also said, “The PM is setting up a Defence Corridor in Bihar. If Pakistan-sponsored terrorists repeat their mistake, ‘goli ka jawab goley se diya jaega’ (they will face cannons for bullets).” The cannons to be used against terrorists will be ‘made-in-Bihar’, he said.

“Unlike the previous Congress regime, the government under Modi’s leadership is committed to the safety and security of the nation,” he alleged.

Shah launched a blistering attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav for allegedly “raising slogans in the praise of gangster-turned-politician late Mohammad Shahabuddin, who unleashed terror in Siwan during the RJD’s 15-year rule in Bihar”.

“Lalu and his party raise slogans like ‘Shahabuddin amar rahe’, dream of ‘jungle raj’ but Bihar people won’t allow these,” he said.

Addressing back-to-back rallies in Darbhanga, Motihari and Bettiah, Shah urged voters in Bihar to press the EVM button with the BJP’s poll symbol ‘lotus’ to prevent the return of ‘jungle raj’ during the RJD rule that had “devastated” the state.

He promised that if the NDA returns to power, the government will spend Rs 26,000 crore to harness the Koshi river water for irrigation and to prevent floods.

“Press ‘lotus’ button to prevent return of ‘jungle raj’ that devastated Bihar during Lalu-Rabri’s 15-year rule…Murders, loots, kidnappings, and extortion will be common in the state again if you make a mistake on the November 6 voting day,” the union minister alleged.

Shah claimed that the NDA under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership could only lead Bihar to all-around development.

“Altogether, Rs 26,000 crore will be spent to harness the Koshi river water to irrigate ‘Mithilanchal’ and prevent floods in the area if the NDA is voted to power in Bihar…Water of the Ganga, Koshi and Gandak rivers will be utilised for irrigation and to prevent deluge in the state,” the former BJP president said.

If the NDA retains power in Bihar, people from Mithila, Koshi, and Tirhut will not be required to go to Patna or Delhi for treatment, as they will get quality medical facilities at AIIMS-Darbhanga, he said.

Shah claimed, “As many as 3.60 cr people have been covered with free health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh crore, while the IT park at Darbhanga will employ the youth.” He slammed the RJD for its complaint to the Election Commission, seeking a pause on the Rs 10,000 benefit for ‘Jeevika Didis’, alleging that “three generations of Lalu won’t be able to snatch funds transferred” to the self-help groups.

Reiterating that the RJD-Congress insulted ‘Chhathi Maiya’, the prime minister and his mother, Shah said people of Bihar will “avenge the insult by showing the exit door to such political parties” in the upcoming elections.

“Bihar people never forgive those who insult ‘Chhathi Maiya’. The RJD-Congress will be wiped out in the Bihar polls,” Shah claimed.

If NDA retains power in Bihar, each district will get one engineering, one medical college in the next 5 years, he promised.

You know Shah Rukh Khan? Sudan rebels ask kidnapped Odisha man in viral video

An Odisha man, who worked at a plastic factory in Al Fashir since 2022, was kidnapped last month. A video showed him flanked by Sudan rebels, while one of them ask him if he knows Shah Rukh Khan.

In a disturbing video from war-torn Sudan, armed men can be seen flanking an Indian national from Odisha and asking him, “Do you know Shah Rukh Khan?” The captive, identified as 36-year-old Adarsh Behera from Jagatsinghpur district, has reportedly been abducted by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful paramilitary group battling the Sudanese army in the country’s ongoing civil war.

The clip shows armed RSF soldiers around Behera. While one of them asks if he knows Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, another orders him to say on camera, “Dagalo good,” referring to their commander.

Behera, who worked at Sukarati Plastic Factory in Al Fashir since 2022, was kidnapped last month and is believed to be held in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, a known RSF stronghold. The group is led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti.

In a video shared by his family, Behera is seen sitting on the floor with folded hands, pleading for his life.

“I am here in Al Fashir where the situation is very bad. I have been living here for two years with great difficulty. My family and children are very worried. I request the state (Odisha) government to help me,” he says.

FAMILY APPEALS FOR INTERVENTION
Behera’s wife, Susmita, who lives in Jagatsinghpur with their two sons aged eight and three, has appealed to both the Odisha government and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene.

“My husband had been working there for the last three years in a plastic company. Around October 20, his phone calls suddenly stopped. Then, on October 24, I got a call from an unknown number — it was my husband. He was crying. He said he had been abducted by terrorists while returning from work with his boss,” she said.

“He told me that if the embassy or the Red Cross spoke to them, they would release him. They were attacking him brutally,” she added.

Her father-in-law, Khetrabasi Behera, said the family has not been able to contact Adarsh for the past eight days.

ODISHA CM WRITES TO CENTRE
Following the family’s appeal, the Odisha government has written to the MEA, seeking urgent intervention. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed officials to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Sudan and ensure Behera’s safe release.

A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said the Director General of Intelligence has already written to the MEA, and the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi is in touch with the ministry for updates.

Majhi has assured the family that “all necessary measures” are being taken to resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik said on X,“Deeply concerned to know that Adarsh Behera from Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha has been kidnapped by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s Al Fashir. Urge Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene into the matter with urgency and coordinate with officials of Sudan for his early release.”

Why India’s Trishul Hurt Pakistan: Decoding DG ISPR’s ‘Stronger Response’ Remark | Exclusive

Pak DG ISPR says, “India must know that this time our response will be stronger.” “Pakistan is rattled and this just shows their strategic anxiety,” say top intel sources

The tri-services mega drill will go on till November 13. (X/SpokespersonNavy)

India’s tri-services exercise Trishul, at a time when the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reached Islamabad, has left Pakistan worried.

Lieutenant General (LG) Ahmed Shareef Chaudhry, Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media and public relations wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces, vowed strong action during an informal interaction with journalists at Rawalpindi.

“India must know that this time our response will be stronger,” he said, according to sources.

“Pakistan is monitoring India’s tri-services exercise. India is preparing another false flag operation in the Arabian Sea,” he said.

According to top Indian intelligence sources, Pakistan is rattled and this kind response to India’s tri-service exercise reflects strategic anxiety. “They have already disturbed their political scenario due to Rawalpindi. The DG ISPR’s statement is just a narrative. Their aim is to ensure domestic consolidation even as they have lost internal control.”

The ISPR is trying to project unity at a time when the TTP has reached their capital and Baloch are attacking them on a daily basis, said sources.

Beginning November 3, the tri-services mega drill, Exercise Trishul, has brought together the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force in a large-scale, multi-domain wargame expanding from the Arabian Sea to the skies above. This is the first exercise of its kind after Operation Sindoor, which will go on till November 13. The large-scale drills simulate integrated warfare, rapid mobilisation, and maritime dominance operations.

The exercise, while routine in nature, has reportedly prompted Pakistan’s heightened state of alert.

Pakistan recently issued a second Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) within five days — a move that intelligence sources describe as a signal of “panic and precaution” triggered by India’s ongoing Tri-Services Exercise Trishul 2025. The latest NOTAM, effective from November 1 to November 30, closes large portions of Pakistan’s airspace, particularly over its southern and coastal regions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan in early October also announced a strict crackdown on Afghan refugees, with the government declaring that all Afghan nationals residing illegally in the country will be deported “as soon as possible”.

The clashes broke out after Pakistan reportedly launched cross-border airstrikes in Kabul on October 9, targeting TTP camps. Pakistan accused the Afghan Taliban of harbouring TTP militants, responsible for killing hundreds of Pakistani soldiers since 2021.

High-Voltage Bihar Showdown: PM Modi’s ‘Katta’ Jibe, Priyanka’s ‘Apmaan Mantralaya’ Swipe Dominate Campaign

Campaigning for Bihar’s assembly elections intensified as prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Modi and Congress president Kharge, held rallies across the state. Voting in Bihar will be held in two phases – November 6 and 11, and counting of votes is on November 14.

Campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections reached fever pitch on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed rallies across the state.
With just one day left before the campaign silence begins, the country’s top political leaders crisscrossed Bihar, targeting each other and rallying support for their respective alliances.
Modi Attacks RJD-Congress Alliance
Prime Minister Modi addressed public meetings in Saharsa and Katihar districts, bringing his total campaign events in the state to eight, including a roadshow in Patna on Sunday.

Continuing his sharp attack on the opposition INDIA bloc, Modi alleged that the Congress had agreed to project RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as chief minister only after a “katta (country-made gun)” was pointed at its head by Lalu Prasad’s RJD.

He also claimed that RJD posters were deliberately leaving out images of party patriarch Lalu Prasad to “hide his sins.”
Shah Predicts NDA Sweep
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has already addressed more than a dozen rallies since the poll schedule was announced on October 6, held meetings in Sheohar, Madhubani, and Sitamarhi—districts bordering Nepal.
Predicting a decisive win for the BJP-led NDA, Shah said, “On November 14, the day of counting, it will be clear by 1 p.m. that the INDIA bloc has been wiped out.”
Later, Shah stayed back in Madhubani for a traditional Maithili dinner with JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha and local leaders, a video of which was widely shared on social media.

Kharge Slams Nitish, BJP
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held his first rally of the campaign in Vaishali, followed by a press conference in Patna.
Kharge accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of “sitting in the lap of the pro-Manu Smriti BJP” and alleged a “conspiracy” by the BJP to deny Kumar another term. He pointed to the JD(U) leader’s absence at the prime minister’s rallies and roadshow as evidence of rift within the NDA.
JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad dismissed Kharge’s claims, noting that Tejashwi Yadav himself skipped Rahul Gandhi’s rally a day earlier.
Addressing a press conference, Kharge also questioned the “absence” of Kumar in Modi’s roadshow in Patna and poll rallies elsewhere in Bihar, and asserted that the BJP is not going to make him the CM again.
“PM Modi and Kumar have been in their posts for 11 and 20 years, respectively, still they talk about jungle raaj. Even after 20 years of running the government in Bihar, how can they talk about ‘jungle raj’. This shows that the PM has nothing to say about his works… what he had done for Bihar,” he said.
It appears that the Prime Minister has nothing to say about education, health, employment, price rise, MSP and investment, the Congress leader claimed.
“Kumar was not seen along with the PM in his rallies on Sunday. He was also missing from the PM’s roadshow in Patna. It’s clear that Nitish would not become the CM again. Modi does not talk about making Kumar the CM. This is Modi’s strategy to sink Kumar,” he claimed.
When asked about the PM’s ‘katta’ remark made on Sunday, Kharge said, “Was Modi present when it happened? What kind of language is the PM using? No one can intimidate Congress, nor is Congress afraid of anyone. Our grand alliance is moving forward with respect and friendship.”
Priyanka Targets PM Modi
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who addressed rallies in Saharsa and Lakhisarai and held a roadshow in Samastipur, took direct aim at the prime minister.
Accusing Modi of “whining” about insults from opposition leaders, she sarcastically suggested that he set up an “Apmaan Mantralaya” (Ministry of Insults) to handle his grievances.
Yogi, Akhilesh Exchange Barbs
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held four rallies in Bihar, where he used sharp humor to attack his rivals. Referring to Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Yogi dubbed them “Pappu, Tappu, and Akku,” and likened them to Mahatma Gandhi’s “three monkeys” who “can neither see, hear, nor speak of NDA’s good work.”
Akhilesh Yadav hit back on X, saying the monk-turned-politician had “changed his dwelling, attire, and even name,” and predicted Yogi’s defeat in Uttar Pradesh’s next polls.

Haze Blankets Delhi As Air Quality Remains ‘Very Poor’

Burari was in the “severe” category with a reading of 400, followed by Wazirpur, which recorded 390.

The air quality is likely to remain in the “severe” category on Tuesday, AQEWS said.

A thick layer of haze enveloped the national capital on Monday, with the air quality remaining in the “very poor” category and very likely to deteriorate to “severe” on Tuesday.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 309 at 4 pm, indicating persistent pollution levels.

Burari was in the “severe” category with a reading of 400, followed by Wazirpur, which recorded 390. Additionally, 23 monitoring stations recorded “very poor” air quality, with readings above 300, as shown on the CPCB’s Sameer app.

According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi, the wind speed dropped below 8 km/h from the northwest direction during the evening and night hours, reducing the dispersion of pollutants. It added that a ventilation index lower than 6,000 m²/s and wind speeds less than 10 km/h are unfavourable for pollutant dispersal.

The air quality is likely to remain in the “severe” category on Tuesday, AQEWS said.

The PM2.5 concentration stood at 155 micrograms per cubic metre and PM10 at 278. PM2.5 refers to fine inhalable particles with diameters that are 2.5 micrometres or smaller, while PM10 includes slightly larger particles up to 10 micrometres in diameter, according to the CPCB.

At such levels, these pollutants can cause breathing discomfort, especially among people with lung or heart diseases, children, and the elderly.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51 to 100 “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 “moderate”, 201 to 300 “poor”, 301 to 400 “very poor”, and 401 to 500 “severe”.

Delhi’s maximum temperature was recorded at 31.5 degrees Celsius, 0.2 notches above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature settled at 17.9 degrees Celsius, 1.9 notches above the season’s average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

No Ban On AI, But Students Must Show Their Prompts, Says IIIT Delhi Director

IIIT Delhi will now require students to submit the AI prompts used in their assignments, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in AI-assisted academic work.

IIIT Delhi to assess students’ AI use in exams by requiring them to submit the prompts used.

The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT Delhi) is strengthening its focus on research, innovation and responsible technology use to prepare students for the future. In an exclusive interaction with News18, Director Prof. Ranjan Bose outlined how the institute is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into learning, expanding research areas and offering one of the most competitive PhD fellowships in the country.

“IIIT Delhi has always aimed to be a research-led university, and our new initiatives are designed to attract bright minds who want to solve real-world problems through technology,” said Prof. Bose.

Responsible Use Of AI In Classrooms and Exams

With AI tools like ChatGPT becoming increasingly popular among students, IIIT Delhi has adopted a progressive approach toward their use. “We are not banning AI in any way,” said Prof. Bose. “Instead, we are teaching students how to use it responsibly. The goal is to help them become better creators, thinkers, and innovators rather than passive consumers of technology.”

The institute is now exploring ways to assess how students use AI tools during assignments and projects. This includes evaluating their interaction with AI — such as the prompts they use and how they refine responses. “We’re interested not just in the final output but also in the thinking process behind it. This is where real learning happens,” Prof. Bose explained.

To make AI use more transparent and accountable, students will now be required to submit the prompts they used along with their final answers. “This will help teachers understand how students are approaching problems and using AI to solve them. We’ll also make it mandatory for students to mention if they used any AI tool and take full responsibility for the final output,” he added.

Boost For Research And Doctoral Studies

The institute is offering PhD fellowships of up to Rs 60,000 per month to attract top research talent. Prof. Bose said the enhanced stipend is intended to make pursuing doctoral studies more appealing to students who might otherwise choose corporate roles.

“We realised that to retain talent within the academic and research ecosystem, we must make PhD programmes financially sustainable. The idea is to give students the freedom to focus entirely on their research without worrying about basic expenses,” he explained.

IIIT Delhi has also expanded its interdisciplinary research centres, covering emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and health informatics. These centres aim to bring together faculty and researchers from diverse backgrounds to work on socially relevant projects.

Focus On Innovation And Entrepreneurship

IIIT Delhi has built a strong innovation and incubation ecosystem, encouraging students and faculty to convert their ideas into tangible solutions. “We support start-ups through mentorship, incubation, and access to resources. Our aim is to ensure that innovation doesn’t stop at the lab but reaches the market and benefits society,” Prof. Bose said.

Cancel Flights, Change Dates For Free? DGCA Planning Major Relief For Air Travellers

DGCA drafts new rules letting air passengers cancel or amend tickets without extra charges within 48 hours of booking and mandates faster refunds.

In what could be a major relief for air passengers, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is drafting new rules that could allow travellers to cancel or amend their tickets without paying additional charges within 48 hours of booking.

The aviation regulator, which is proposing significant changes to ticket refund norms, has also suggested that when a ticket is purchased through a travel agent or online portal, the “onus of refund shall lie with the airlines as agents are their appointed representatives.”

According to the DGCA’s draft, airlines will be required to provide a “look-in option” for a period of 48 hours after booking.

“During this period, passengers can cancel or amend the ticket without any additional charges, except for the normal prevailing fare for the revised flight for which the ticket is sought to be amended,” the draft said.

However, the facility will not apply to flights scheduled to depart within five days for domestic routes or 15 days for international routes from the date of booking, when tickets are booked directly through the airline’s website.

“Beyond 48 hours of initial booking time, this option is not available and the passenger has to pay the relevant cancellation fees for amendment,” the draft Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) stated.

The DGCA has also proposed that airlines complete the refund process within 21 working days, as part of broader changes to the CAR provisions on ticket refunds.

In another key proposal, the draft states that an “airline shall not levy any additional charge for correction in the name of the same person when the error is pointed out by the passenger within 24 hours of making the booking, when the ticket is booked directly through the airline website,” according to the document accessed by the Press Trust of India.

The DGCA has further suggested that airlines may either refund tickets or offer a credit shell in cases where passengers cancel their bookings due to medical emergencies.

The ongoing job market in India remains unpredictable, and the anxiety and overthinking caused by this uncertainty are often reflected on social media, where netizens share their personal experiences. Amid ongoing discussions about employment across industries, a concerning post has gone viral, in which a man shared an interview experience where a candidate showed up looking visibly tired because “he was discharged from the hospital the same morning.” The post has since ignited a conversation online.
The story was shared on LinkedIn by a user identified as Ankit Gupta. He wrote, “I was interviewing a candidate who seemed unusually low on energy. After a few minutes, I gently asked — ‘Are you okay?’ He quietly replied, ‘I was discharged from the hospital this morning.’ I paused for a moment and said, ‘If you want, we can reschedule the interview — it won’t affect your candidacy.’ But he refused, looking worried… because he really needed this job. That moment broke my heart.”
He further added a reminder for recruiters, “Empathy matters. Candidates are not just resumes — they’re humans, often fighting silent battles we know nothing about. Every resume carries a story.”

The post quickly went viral, sparking emotional reactions across social media. While many asked whether the candidate got the job, others questioned the authenticity of the story. One user commented, “Did he get the job?” to which Ankit replied, “Yes.”

India Eyes 10,000 kmph Hypersonic Missile Under Project Vishnu — Here’s What We Know

India is making significant strides in developing a hypersonic cruise missile, driven by advancements in scramjet engine technology. The missile, known as Project Vishnu, is expected to reach speeds of 8 Mach, translating to approximately 10,000 km/h.

In this image released on Oct. 15, 2025, an army personnel takes a selfie during a successful test of the military combat parachute system (MCPS), indigenously developed by the DRDO, at an altitude of 32,000 ft. (PIB via PTI Photo)

With work on developing a scramjet engine going well, India has successfully negotiated the initial steps towards having in its arsenal a hypersonic cruise missile. Highly placed government said there has been “good progress” with the scramjet engine and the initial version of the missile will be at 8 Mach, almost 10,000 km per hour and currently, at least, it is impossible to stop.
This is Project Vishnu, currently before the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but there’s still initial work to be done. One challenge for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is countering the generation of heat– it must be ensured that “the structure does not melt,” which is why the thermal protection scheme will ensure that the titanium body of the missile will have a silica tile covering. Then, of course, there are wind-tunnel studies necessary– drag levels, that work against speed increasing, have to be looked at.
Sources said that while the initial version will have an 8 Mach speed, subsequent versions could be quicker, maybe touching Mach 10. Very few countries are working on such a weapon system. The Russians have something similar, but “their weapon glides in the final stages,” sources said. But they are working towards a complete hypersonic missile and are close to developing it. The Chinese missile also glides, sources added, after the initial thrust of the rocket motor and they are still the only countries close to developing one. “The Americans began work much earlier, but gave up. The technology wasn’t quite in place then,” sources added.

Bengaluru: A shocking incident has been reported from an apartment building in Bagalur, Bengaluru, on Monday, where a domestic worker brutally killed a puppy by smashing it to the floor inside a lift. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bagalur police station in Bengaluru.

Raashi Poojari, the owner of the deceased pet, lodged a police complaint against the maid involved in the act. The accused has been identified as Pupalatha, who was hired specifically to take care of the dog.

The woman was being paid for looking after the pet and had also been provided with accommodation and food at her employer’s residence.

According to the preliminary investigation, the accused committed this cruel act while taking the dog out for a walk. The incident took place on October 31 but came to light only recently. After killing the pet, the woman was seen in CCTV footage carrying the dead puppy in one hand and walking out of the lift.

Pupalatha had been working at Raashi’s home for a few months. The puppy, named Goofy, died as a result of the brutal act inside the lift. Once the CCTV footage surfaced, Raashi filed a police complaint. The footage showing the accused pulling the dog’s body by its leash and walking out of the lift has sparked public outrage.

The CCTV clip has since gone viral, leading to widespread condemnation from animal lovers. It shows the woman swinging and repeatedly smashing the small dog to the floor by its leash — an act of shocking cruelty.

“Exceptional Teamwork And Tenacity”: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hails India’s Historic Women’s World Cup Triumph

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in celebrating India’s first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, hailing the team’s spirit and skill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in celebrating India’s first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, hailing the team’s spirit and skill after their 52-run victory over South Africa in a thrilling final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote: “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”

It was indeed a collective team effort that powered India to their first-ever Women’s World Cup crown, ending a long wait for global glory in front of a packed and passionate home crowd.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt’s dismissal in the 42nd over, followed by Chloe Tryon’s (9) wicket in the same over, effectively sealed the fate of the match. The Proteas were reduced to eight down with 78 runs needed off 48 balls, and despite Nadine de Klerk’s late resistance, India bowled out South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs to script history.

Shafali Verma made a crucial impact with the ball in the summit clash, striking twice in quick succession to swing the momentum decisively in India’s favour. She dismissed Sune Luus in her very first over and then removed the dangerous Marizanne Kapp, tightening India’s grip before Sinalo Jafta fell as the fifth wicket.

Earlier, India’s breakthrough came via a moment of brilliance from Amanjot Kaur, whose sharp direct hit from mid-off ran out Tazmin Brits at the non-striker’s end. Brits and Wolvaardt had put together a brisk fifty-run opening stand during the powerplay, giving South Africa a solid start.

Debutant Sree Charani then trapped Anneke Bosch LBW in her first over. Despite early setbacks, Wolvaardt continued her fine form, notching her 39th ODI fifty and, along with Luus, steering South Africa past 100 to keep the chase alive.

However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s decision to bring Shafali Verma into the attack proved inspired. The young all-rounder’s twin strikes broke the back of South Africa’s middle order and shifted the game squarely in India’s favour.

India’s batting brilliance sets the tone

Earlier in the day, India posted 298/7 in 50 overs – the second-highest total in a Women’s ODI World Cup final. A commanding 100-run opening stand between Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali Verma (87) provided the ideal launch pad. At 223 for 3, India looked set for a 320-plus score before South Africa clawed back in the death overs to restrict them to just under 300.

Is every lawyer an advocate? Supreme Court answers

The Supreme Court’s recent ruling has revived an old but often blurred distinction in Indian legal parlance – one between a ‘lawyer’ by qualification and an ‘advocate’.

Advocate and In-house Counsel

When the Supreme Court held recently that in-house lawyers are not “advocates” under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), it was not merely deciding a procedural point about professional privilege. It was restating a foundational distinction in the Indian legal profession – one that separates legal education from the legal profession, and a law degree from the right to practise law.

The judgment, authored by Justice K Vinod Chandran for a Bench led by Chief Justice BR Gavai, came in a suo motu case on the summoning of lawyers by investigating agencies. While the Court clarified that investigative agencies cannot summon advocates to elicit privileged communication with clients, it also turned its gaze inward, examining who precisely qualifies as an “advocate” under Indian law.

At the centre of that discussion lay a simple but loaded question – is every lawyer an advocate?

The Court’s answer was no.

It said that persons with law degrees who work as salaried employees/legal advisors (termed as in-house counsel in legal circles) would not fall within the ambit of the term ‘advocate’. Consequently, attorney-client privilege will not apply to them.

“In-house counsel will not be entitled to the privilege under Section 132 since they are not advocates practising in courts as spoken of in the BSA,” the Bench said.

That line, seemingly technical, revives a statutory divide that has existed since the enactment of the Advocates Act, 1961, but one which has blurred over time with the growth of corporate legal roles and compliance-based advisory work.

The legal architecture: Advocate vs. lawyer

Under Section 2(a) of the Advocates Act, 1961, an advocate means a person whose name is entered on the rolls of a State Bar Council. Sections 29 and 33 then make it explicit that only advocates are entitled to practise law before courts, tribunals or authorities.

On the other hand, a “lawyer” is a colloquial description and refers to anyone holding a law degree or engaged in legal work.

A lawyer may draft contracts, advise a corporation or even teach law, but unless enrolled with a Bar Council, they do not have the statutory right to appear or practise before a court.

It is this right – the entitlement to “practise law” – that the Supreme Court tied to the meaning of “advocate” under Section 132 of the BSA, which protects communications between a client and an advocate.

“The fact of their regular employment with full salaries takes them away from the definition of an Advocate as defined under the Advocates Act, 1961,” the Court said.

Why employment matters

The Court relied on Rule 49 of the Bar Council of India Rules, which prohibits a full-time salaried employee from practising as an advocate.

The logic is straightforward – advocacy is a profession, not employment, and requires independence of judgment and duty to the court, qualities compromised when a lawyer is part of an employer’s hierarchy.

The Court cited the Constitution Bench judgment in Rejanish KV v. K Deepa (2025), which reaffirmed that once a law graduate takes up full-time employment, they must intimate the Bar Council and cease to practise. Even if they remain enrolled, they cannot function as advocates until they resign from employment.

Thus, while an in-house counsel may be a lawyer in every sense – legally trained, qualified and offering legal advice – they are not advocates in the eyes of the law. Their relationship with their employer is that of master and servant, not client and advocate.

Independence as the defining criterion

The judgment identifies independence as the core attribute distinguishing an advocate from a lawyer. Quoting the European Court of Justice’s decision in Akzo Nobel Ltd. v. European Commission (2010), the Supreme Court approved the reasoning that an in-house lawyer, though qualified and even enrolled with a Bar or Law Society, does not enjoy the “same degree of independence” as an external lawyer.

“An in-house counsel, though engaged in the job of advising his employer on questions of law, would even then be influenced by the commercial and business strategies pursued by his employer and would always be beholden to his employer and obliged to protect their interest.”

In other words, independence is the litmus test for advocacy. An advocate owes allegiance first to the law and to the court, while a lawyer in employment owes primary allegiance to their employer.

Privilege: The statutory consequence of being an advocate

Section 132 of the BSA, like the old Section 126 of the Indian Evidence Act, protects from disclosure any communication between an advocate and their client made “in the course and for the purpose of his employment as such advocate.”

The privilege rests on the presumption of professional independence – that the advocate is not part of the client’s organisation and, therefore, acts as an external fiduciary.

An in-house counsel, by contrast, stands on a different footing. The Court held that their communications, while possibly confidential, are not privileged under Section 132. They may, however, claim limited protection under Section 134, which prevents compelled disclosure of confidential communications with a legal adviser.

That subtle distinction – confidentiality versus privilege – is what defines the legal consequence of not being an “advocate.”

‘Even Donald Trump Doesn’t Know…’: How Army Chief Described Future Security Challenges To Gen Z

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has said that future challenges are coming so fast that by the time you prepare for the current one, the next challenge comes at you adding that even US President Donald Trump doesn’t know what he’ll do tomorrow.

New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has said that future challenges are coming so fast that by the time you prepare for the current one, the next challenge comes at you adding that even US President Donald Trump doesn’t know what he’ll do tomorrow.
Addressing students at TRS College in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi said that the challenges are such that one has to remain prepared across all fronts from space to cyber, to land, air, and sea.

How Will Future Challenges Be? Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi Explains
Giving food for thought to the students at Rewa’s TRS College, Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi talked about future challenges, saying they are coming fast and that we are completely clueless about what the future holds.

“Future challenges are coming. They’re instability, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity… You and I are completely clueless about what the future holds,” the Army Chief said.

Taking a reference to the US President, he said, “What is Trump doing today? I think even Trump doesn’t know what he is going to do tomorrow. Challenges are coming so quickly that by the time you try to grasp an old challenge, a new one emerges—and the same security challenges our military faces.”
“Whether it’s on the border, terrorism, natural disasters, or cyber warfare. The new things that have started: space warfare, satellites, chemical, biological, radiological, and information warfare. The way rumours are spread. As you heard in Operation Sindoor — Karachi has been attacked. So much such news came, which seemed like news to us too. Where did it come from, who did it?… In the scope of all these challenges, you have to work on land, sky, water—all three,” said the Army Chief.

How the Army Chief Addressed Gen Z

Mentioning that it is fashionable these days to talk about Gen Z, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi said, “Generation Z is here, and it’s fashionable these days to talk about Gen Z, because they are spread everywhere. The biggest thing is that India’s Generation Z population is the largest in the world and even the Indian Army is left behind.”
“Because we are the second largest, only Generation Z comes first… It means that this Generation Z is digitally fluent. Meaning, they are digitally comfortable. They are technologically advanced and socially aware. Social awareness, digitally fluent, and most importantly, they are globally connected: the whole world’s latest developments. If you have so much power, if you just get discipline and guidance, then who knows how many generations, how many ages will India advance in a second. In the future, it will be Generation Z that will fuel India and take it forward. Therefore, it was crucial for me to be here…,” COAS said.

Indian Army Goes High-Tech: Drones to Boost Surveillance and Strike Power of Tank, Mechanised Infantry Units

The Indian Army plans to integrate unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, into its tank and mechanised infantry regiments to enhance operational capabilities.

Image: AI Generated.

For the Indian Army’s tank and mechanised infantry regiments, a new weapon system is on the cards: unmanned aircraft systems or simply, drones.
Drones have become increasingly important in contemporary warfare. They were effectively used during the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and both Russia and Ukraine are using drones for both surveillance and strikes with great success. What the drones will give to the tank and mechanised infantry regiments is “extended reach,” high-level sources said. It will mean that the regiments will know what is 40-50 km ahead of them, a major benefit.
India’s 65+ tank regiments and the 50+ mechanised infantry regiments will know what threats are before them. As with infantry battalions, a group of the regiment’s soldiers— about 30– will be trained in the use and maintenance of drones.

Emergency procurement for the armed forces will continue till November 19 and 80 percent will go for buying drones and anti-drone systems. These will be bought from largely indigenous manufacturers.

International fast food chain McDonald’s has added a swadeshi twist to its menu by rolling out the Millet Bun Burger.

The latest addition, prepared using a homegrown innovation developed with indigenous technology from the Mysuru-based CSIR–Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), has drawn praise from the Central government, which views it as a notable step in India’s efforts to promote millets as a mainstream, everyday food option.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh hailed the move as proof that “Videshi has turned Swadeshi,” calling it a proud moment for India’s food innovation ecosystem. In a post on X, Singh commended the global fast-food chain for adopting indigenous research and food technology developed within India.

“Videshi turns to Swadeshi” as the popular international food chain McDonald’s serves India’s “Millet Bun Burger”, prepared using indigenous technology developed by the Mysore based CSIR institute, the “Central Food Technological Research Institute “CFTRI,” he said on X.

He added that this is a “proud moment” showcasing how Indian innovation and traditional nutrition are reshaping global food trends.

The announcement has been highlighted as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push on millets as a superfood, under the broader initiative informally known as the ‘Millet Movement’.

“A grand vindication for India’s Millet movement which had gained momentum with the UN declaring 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ at the behest of India with the personal intervention of PM Modi,” he added.

The Indian government has been actively promoting millets both domestically and internationally.

The United Nations General Assembly at its 75th session in March 2021 declared 2023 the International Year of Millets (IYM 2023), following a proposal spearheaded by India. Since then, policymakers have encouraged millet integration across welfare schemes, food security programmes, and commercial food markets.

International Year of Millets was looked at as an opportunity to raise awareness of, and direct policy attention to the nutritional and health benefits of millets and their suitability for cultivation under adverse and changing climatic conditions. The Year promoted the sustainable production of millets, while highlighting their potential to provide new sustainable market opportunities for producers and consumers.

The Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday reached a new milestone by launching its heaviest communication satellite on an Indian rocket and placing it in orbit.

ISRO launched its CMS-03 communication satellite, weighing 4,410 kg, to a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) onboard the 43.5-metre-tall LVM3-M5 rocket, known as ‘Bahubali’ for its heavy-lift capability. The launch took place from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 5:26 pm.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan congratulated ISRO on the feat, lauding India’s excellence in space innovation. ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said the space agency plans to carry out seven launch missions in the next five months.

A Historic Launch: Top Points

  • The communication satellite CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite and would provide services over a wide oceanic region, including the Indian landmass, according to ISRO. It is also a replacement to the GSAT 7 series, launched in 2013.
  • VM-3, previously known as Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (GSLV Mk 3), is a three-stage launch vehicle that includes two solid motor strap-ons (S200), a liquid propellant core stage (L110), and a cryogenic stage (C25). It is dubbed ‘Bahubali’ for its capabilities in launching heavier communication satellites up to 4,000 kg in GTO and 8,000 kg in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
  • All eight LVM 3 launches, including its experimental mission, have been successful, achieving a 100% success rate. ISRO scientists also demonstrated the re-ignition of the thrust chamber of the C-25 cryogenic engine after it placed the satellite in orbit.
  • PM Modi congratulated ISRO, saying, “Powered by our space scientists, it is commendable how our space sector has become synonymous with excellence and innovation.”
  • “This indigenously developed satellite will strengthen space-based communications, connectivity, and maritime domain awareness across the Indian Ocean Region, marking another proud milestone in Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” said VP Radhakrishnan.

Nine people were treated for life-threatening injuries after a series of stabbings on a train near Cambridge in eastern England on Saturday, and two men were arrested in what Prime Minister Keir Starmer called an “appalling incident.”

British Transport Police said counterterrorism police were supporting its investigation whilst it works to establish the full circumstances and motivation for the incident.

“We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further,” British Transport Police Chief Superintendent Chris Casey said. “At this early stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.”

Cambridgeshire police said they were called at 1939 GMT after reports that multiple people had been stabbed on the 1825 service from Doncaster in northern England to London King’s Cross.

The train stopped at Huntingdon, with armed officers seen entering the train in videos on social media.

“Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested,” the police said.

One eyewitness told Sky News that one of the suspects, waving a large knife, was tasered by police.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it mobilised a large-scale response to Huntingdon Railway Station, which included numerous ambulances and critical care teams, including three air ambulances.

Starmer posted on X that the incident was “deeply concerning.”

“My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response,” he said.

JDU’s Anant Singh Arrested In Jan Suraaj Supporter’s Murder Case

Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav was killed while he was campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate and his nephew Priyadarshi Piyush in Mokama.

Former Bihar MLA Anant Singh, who has been fielded by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, was arrested early Sunday in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav.

Yadav, a gangster-turned-politician who was formerly associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), was killed while campaigning in Mokama on Thursday for his nephew Priyadarshi Piyush, who is fighting on a ticket of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party in these assembly polls.

Singh, the JD(U) candidate from Mokama and the husband of sitting MLA Neelam Devi, was arrested from his residence in Barh along with two other persons, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, who were also present when the incident took place.

“Police have arrested three persons — Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram — in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patna, Kartikeya Sharma, said while addressing a late-night press conference with Patna District Magistrate Thyagarajan SM.

He said that Yadav’s post-mortem report shows that he died of cardiorespiratory failure due to shock caused by injury to the heart and lungs by a hard and blunt substance.

“Therefore, the post-mortem report and preliminary investigation suggest that it’s a case of murder,” he said.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Singh said he was “far away” from the spot where Dular Chand Yadav had an argument with his supporters.

“I do not know what exactly happened, but some of my people have complained that Yadav’s henchmen vandalised their vehicles,” he said.

He also blamed the husband of his RJD rival Veena Devi.

“It must be the handiwork of Suraj Bhan. He orchestrated the killing so that I get a bad name,” Singh said.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Anant Singh won the seat as an RJD candidate but was later disqualified after his conviction under the Arms Act in 2022. His wife, Neelam Devi, then won the bypoll.

The Election Commission on Saturday transferred Patna Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vikram Sihag following Yadav’s murder in Mokama.

It also ordered the appointment of new officials to replace the sub-divisional officer of Barh, who is also the returning officer of the Mokama assembly seat, sub-divisional police officer Barh-1, and sub-divisional police officer Barh-2.

Lalu Yadav’s Halloween Fest With Grandchildren Draws BJP’s ‘Kumbh’ Reminder

The criticism followed Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya posting visuals of her children in Halloween costumes on Friday.

The BJP has hit out at Lalu Yadav over Halloween celebrations at his home, pointing out that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch had criticised the Kumbh festival. Sharing a news clip in which Yadav is heard calling Kumbh “meaningless,” the BJP said those who attack faith won’t get votes. Elections in Bihar are only days away.

The criticism followed Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya posting visuals of her children in Halloween costumes on social media on Friday. Yadav was seen posing with his grandchildren, who were dressed as a Grim Reaper and in other costumes. “Happy Halloween to everyone,” Acharya said in her post.

The BJP Kisan Morcha handle shared a split video of Yadav’s remarks on Kumbh and the Halloween visuals, noting that the RJD leader has no problem with celebrating a British festival.

Halloween traces its origins to Celtic roots and is celebrated with spooky decorations, parties, costumes, and trick-or-treating.

“Don’t forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who called the grand Kumbh of faith and spirituality useless and is celebrating the British festival Halloween. Whoever attacks faith, the people of Bihar will not vote for him,” said the BJP Kisan Morcha.

The two-phase voting for the Bihar assembly elections 2025 will be held on November 6 and 11.

BJP’s Manoj Tiwari alleges RJD workers behind attack during Bihar roadshow: ‘Why such thuggery?’

BJP leader Manoj Tiwari was doing a roadshow in Bihar’s Dumraon for the upcoming assembly polls where the alleged attack took place.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said the miscreants tried to install an RJD flag on a vehicle after which the drivers were instructed to speed away from the spot. (ANI)

BJP leader Manoj Tiwari has accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers of attacking him while he was campaigning for the upcoming assembly election in Bihar’s Dumraon on Saturday, saying that his convoy sped away to avoid any confrontational situation with the miscreants.

“Just a short while ago, at the Brahm Baba site in Dumraon Ariyav, when people were welcoming the roadshow with candidate Rahul Singh, some people tried to attack us while chanting RJD slogans. To prevent a confrontation, we sped up the vehicle and left. Why such thuggery by RJD in the campaign?,” he wrote in a post on X.

What happened at the roadshow?

Tiwari alleged that RJD workers ‘invaded’ his roadshow in Dumraon, Buxar, who then started sloganeering and someone even tried to install an RJD flag on their vehicle.

“RJD supporters began sloganeering. First, we were hooted at, and then someone tried to install the RJD flag on our vehicle. When we resisted, they tried to crush us and hurled abuses. To avoid what happened in Mokama, we instructed drivers to run away quickly,” he was quoted as saying news agency ANI. He further alleged that the miscreants hit their vehicles with sticks as he termed the attack a blatant crime.

“I am appealing to the Election Commission, administration, and Mahagathbandhan leaders – what kind of behaviour is this when contesting elections?… It is a blatant crime… We have lodged a complaint and spoken to the SP. A complaint has been forwarded to the Election Commission, and strict action should be taken against those behind this incident,” he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

What has the BJP said?

Commenting on the attack on Tiwari’s roadshow, Delhi Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reiterated the ‘jungle raj’ jibe at RJD saying that the party only wants to create chaos and disturb law and order.

“RJD is distraught, and in such a situation, they were also troubled by the support our star campaigner, Manoj Tiwari, was receiving in the Dumraon Assembly constituency. Whenever RJD believes it will come to power, it either fails to do so or shows its anger. We do not adhere to such an ideology. They only desire chaos and aim to disturb law and order. If this were to happen to Manoj Tiwari, a well-known figure in the Bhojpuri community, imagine what might happen to the people of Bihar… I request the people of Bihar to eradicate jungle raj and bring back Nitish Kumar and PM Modi-led NDA coalition,” he told ANI.

Massive fake Ayushman card nexus busted in UP and Punjab; over 300 IDs seized

Authorities uncovered a major scam involving the creation of fake Ayushman health insurance cards in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Investigations revealed that fraudsters used fake identities of officials to issue 300 counterfeit cards, prompting a police probe and the suspension of the affected IDs.

A large-scale scam involving the creation of fake Ayushman health insurance cards has been discovered in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The fraudulent activity was detected after 300 counterfeit cards were issued using fake identities of officials from the State Agencies for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), the body responsible for issuing Ayushman cards.

The Ayushman cards are part of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a flagship government scheme designed to provide health coverage to economically disadvantaged families.

The scam surfaced during the recent Diwali holidays when perpetrators exploited the system by generating fake IDs of SACHIS officials to bypass verification protocols.

Fraudsters targeted residents in Bareilly and Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Jalandhar in Punjab. By using unauthorised access to the official portals, they managed to produce and distribute fake Ayushman cards to unsuspecting recipients in these cities.

Initial inquiries have confirmed the creation of 300 such cards, raising questions about the oversight mechanisms in place.

The technique used by the scammers involved manipulating the mobile numbers tied to SACHIS officials’ accounts. They matched these numbers with those on Aadhaar cards and altered them on the official portal, preventing the required OTP for approval from reaching legitimate officials. This allowed them to fabricate fake Aadhaar cards as part of the process.

Sheesh Mahal 2.0? BJP Accuses Arvind Kejriwal of Having ‘Luxurious 7-Star Mansion’ in Punjab

The BJP had cornered Arvind Kejriwal for the alleged “extravagant spending” on the renovation of the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow, popularly known as ‘Sheesh Mahal’.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fresh attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday, alleging that the party chief, Arvind Kejriwal, is having a luxury mansion for himself in Punjab, reviving the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ row.
The Delhi unit of the BJP alleged that Kejriwal is using government resources for personal luxury and accused him of preparing a “luxurious 7-star, two-acre government bungalow” in Chandigarh’s Sector 2 for himself.
“Big Breaking – The man who pretended to be the common man, Kejriwal, has had another grand Sheesh Mahal built. After the Delhi Sheesh Mahal was vacated, Punjab’s Super CM Arvind Kejriwal ji has had an even more splendid Sheesh Mahal built in Punjab than the one in Delhi,” the Delhi unit of BJP posted on X.

“In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, a luxurious 7-star government mansion of 2 acres on the CM quota has been allotted to Arvind Kejriwal ji,” the party alleged, sharing a photo.

The same photo was posted by Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, whose relations with Kejriwal and the party became frosty following allegations in May last year. Maliwal has accused Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar of physically assaulting her.
“After vacating the Sheesh Mahal in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal ji has had an even more splendid Sheesh Mahal built in Punjab than the one in Delhi. In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, a luxurious 7-star government mansion of 2 acres under the CM quota has been allotted to Arvind Kejriwal ji. Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter right from in front of his house for Ambala, and then from Ambala, the Punjab government’s private jet took him to Gujarat for party work. The entire Punjab government is engaged in serving one man,” Maliwal poated on X.
Neither Kejriwal nor the AAP have responded to the BJP’s claims.
The BJP had cornered Kejriwal for the renovation of the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow and the expenditures incurred on its interiors during his tenure as the chief minister of Delhi.
It has been alleged that Kejriwal had “extravagant spending” on the renovation and interior decoration of the bungalow on 6, Flag Staff Road.

Delhi High Court Upholds FSSAI Ban on ORS-Labeled Fruit Beverages, Citing Public Health Concerns

The ruling came during the hearing of a plea by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), which sought permission to sell its ready-to-drink fruit-flavoured beverages under the brand name Rebalanz VITORS.

Delhi High Court Upholds FSSAI Ban on ORS-Labeled Fruit Beverages, Citing Public Health Concerns | Representational Image

Fruit-based, non-carbonated, or ready-to-drink beverages cannot be sold labelled as Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), the Delhi High Court has ruled, upholding the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) ban. The court emphasised that “public health considerations are paramount.”

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Plea Rejected

The ruling came during the hearing of a plea by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), which sought permission to sell its ready-to-drink fruit-flavoured beverages under the brand name Rebalanz VITORS.

FSSAI, through its orders dated October 14, 15, and 30, had held that using the term ‘ORS’ on such beverages violates the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and related regulations. The regulator warned that such branding could mislead consumers, including children, diabetics, and the elderly, into believing these drinks were medically approved for rehydration.

FSSAI Flags Misleading Branding as Health Hazard

Justice Sachin Datta noted that FSSAI had identified ORS-branded fruit beverages as a potential “health hazard.” He stated, “We cannot allow public health risk and allow you to continue in the market.”

While DRL informed the court about its plan to rebrand the product as Rebalanz Vitenergy, the judge clarified that existing stock cannot be sold without FSSAI’s approval. He further advised the company to submit a representation to the regulator regarding its current inventory.

Interim Relief for Johnson & Johnson Subsidiary

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, JNTL Consumer Health, also approached the Delhi High Court. The court granted an interim stay, directing the company to submit a representation to FSSAI within a week for further consideration.

High Sugar Content Raises Serious Concerns

The October 30 order, issued after JNTL Consumer Health’s representation, highlighted complaints that high-sugar ORS-branded beverages were being mistakenly consumed instead of WHO-recommended ORS formulations, leading to worsened dehydration cases.

FSSAI observed that packaging disclaimers were insufficient, as the term ‘ORS’ dominated the label and closely mimicked medically approved rehydration solutions, increasing the likelihood of consumer confusion.

Assam Wakes Before Dawn To Bid Farewell to Zubeen Garg As Roi Roi Binale Lights Up Screens

Inside, the screen glowed with Zubeen’s face—smiling, singing, directing, composing, being. Every frame felt like a memory pulled from the crowd’s own lives: the first time his voice cracked open a heart at a Bihu function, the night his songs carried a broken teenager through loss.

Zubeen Garg | X @Tanuja_Mahajan1

They came in the hush before sunrise—scarves knotted tight, eyes red from sleepless nights and heavier hearts. At 4:25 a.m., Matrix Cinema Hall in Beltola flung open its doors, and Assam stepped into the dark to say goodbye to Zubeen Garg one last time.

Roi Roi Binale—his final film, his last love letter—wasn’t just playing. It was breathing.

Twenty minutes later, 600 kilometres north, Nakshatra Cinema in Lakhimpur lit up at 4:35 a.m. The same hush, the same shiver. From Guwahati’s misty streets to Lakhimpur’s quiet dawn, Assam rose early not for coffee, but for closure.

‘He’s Gone, But He Just Spoke to Me’

Inside, the screen glowed with Zubeen’s face—smiling, singing, directing, composing, being. Every frame felt like a memory pulled from the crowd’s own lives: the first time his voice cracked open a heart at a Bihu function, the night his songs carried a broken teenager through loss.

Applause crashed like waves; tears fell without shame.

“It’s vintage Zubeen,” whispered Rima Das, 28, clutching a poster outside Matrix. “He’s gone, but he just spoke to me.”

A State and a Nation Mourn in Numbers

The numbers tell the fever: 664 shows nationwide today, 433 in Assam alone. Guwahati’s 15 halls run 177 screenings daily; Tezpur’s five halls pack 53.

Even outside Assam, the pull remains fierce—80 shows across 16 halls in Bengaluru, 24 in Delhi-NCR, 18 each in Mumbai and Hyderabad. From Itanagar to Kochi, Kolkata to Chandigarh, and one show in Gangtok—Zubeen’s echo refuses to fade.

In North Lakhimpur, Nakshatra ran eight shows by dusk; Vishva and Gold kicked off at 9:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., each sold out before sunrise.

“We opened at 4:35 because fans were already here at 3,” said Nakshatra’s manager, voice hoarse from shouting tickets.

More Than a Movie—A Melody in Mourning

Roi Roi Binale is more than cinema. It’s Zubeen’s madness bottled—poetry in pain, melody in mourning. He directed it, scored it, dreamed it into being before illness stole him away.

Today, Assam didn’t just watch a film. They attended a funeral and a festival in the same breath.

‘Main Kyu Gaali Khaun’: Nitin Gadkari’s QR Code Plan Puts Highway Officials in the Spotlight

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched a pioneering initiative requiring the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and highway developers to create dedicated YouTube channels for project updates.

Nitin Gadkari’s QR Code Plan to Expose Lapses on India’s Highways

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and highway developers to launch dedicated YouTube channels showcasing regular video updates of highway projects at different stages of construction.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also announced that hoardings with QR codes will be installed along national highways, allowing commuters to scan them and access detailed information about the project — including the names and contact details of the contractor, consultant and government officials responsible for that stretch.
“Main kyu gaali khaun? The QR code will have information of the contractor, consultant, and officers who cleared the road. If a road is bad and people are complaining about it on social media, take it seriously. From A to Z in road construction, we need ownership, sincerity, and a positive approach. Roads must be good, and they must stay good,” Gadkari said.

He stressed that motorists paying tolls are entitled to roads of international standards. “Neither weather nor poor-quality bitumen can be used as excuse. If the road surface isn’t smooth, it must be repaired – costs may rise, but comfort is non-negotiable,” Gadkari said.

The minister also called for performance audits to pinpoint flaws in design and maintenance, ensure accountability and recognise exemplary work. “When audits are regular, transparency increases and excuses decrease. That’s how we should work,” he said.
At the same event, Road Transport Secretary V Umashankar on Tuesday directed the NHAI to upload project videos for public access and feedback. Speaking at a CII event, he said, “We often get information and updates about projects and problems from videos uploaded by independent YouTubers. Some comments also give insight into issues. We are working to make video uploading part of project contract documents.”

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier stationed in Bastar was in for a shock when he suddenly received a notice from the Income Tax Department for claiming a business turnover of Rs 10.51 crore. He later discovered that a fraudulent company had been opened using his PAN card.

Vishesh Kumar Kashyap, a resident of Bakawand, told the Income Tax Department that he has not opened any company nor engaged in financial dealings. Further investigation revealed that a fake company had been opened by someone who misused Kashyap’s PAN card.

The Income Tax Department sent this notice based on transactions from the financial years 2019-20 and 2020-21. The officer immediately filed a complaint at the Bakawand police station, after which the police registered a case against some unknown accused under section 318(4) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police Traces Kolkata Angle

The investigation revealed that some scammers had registered a company using Kashyap’s identity and made transactions worth crores. Bastar Cyber Cell in-charge Geetika Sahu said that the initial investigation indicated a connection with a firm based in Kolkata.

According to the police, it is believed that the accused used the soldier’s PAN card for large-scale financial activities. Officials have requested relevant documents and are investigating the bank accounts involved in these transactions.

‘Regime Changes In Neighbouring Countries A Result Of Bad Governance’: NSA Ajit Doval

NSA Ajit Doval emphasised governance’s role in nation-building, citing regime changes in Bangladesh and Nepal as results of poor governance.

On the occasion of National Unity Day, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Friday asserted the role of governance in nation-building and said regime changes in neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh and Nepal, were a result of bad governance. Addressing the Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture on Governance, Doval highlighted the relevance of Sardar Patel’s vision in today’s India.

“The rise and fall of the great empires, monarchies, oligarchies, aristocracies or democracies is actually a history of their governance. In the recent cases of regime change through non-constitutional methods in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and others, these were actually cases of poor governance. And that is how governance matters,” Doval said.

Doval stressed that effective governance is essential for securing a nation and achieving its goals. He highlighted that governance plays a pivotal role in shaping a nation’s future and ensuring its stability.

“I would like to share a perspective on how a security man looks at the process of governance. I believe governance plays a seminal role in the nation-building process, as well as in securing a nation and helping it achieve its goals and aspirations. It is indeed very befitting that in 2025, we should be reinventing Sardar Patel,” Doval said.

Expressing the need to uphold Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision, Doval mentioned that India is experiencing an “orbital shift” in governance and its position in the global order.

He emphasized the importance of Patel’s vision in uniting India and fostering a strong nation, noting that Patel’s leadership is more necessary than ever.

“His (Sardar Patel’s) vision is required in India today more than ever before. Not only is India in a transition, India is also having an orbital shift from a certain type of governance and government structures, societal structures, and its place in the global order. The world is also undergoing a great transformation. Whenever the change comes, the most important thing is clarity of vision; the noise and threats do not sway you. You are not getting subdued by the adversities and the possible threats. You have to prepare yourself and you have to equip yourself,” the NSA said.

Forty-eight migrant workers from Jharkhand are reportedly stranded in Tunisia, facing harsh conditions and being forced to work without pay. They were allegedly employed in the North African nation through a Delhi-based private firm.

According to news agency PTI, the Jharkhand Labour Department has established contact with the stranded workers, who have expressed their desire to return to India.

“We spoke to the migrant workers allegedly stranded by a private firm in Tunisia and are verifying their documents. We are also in touch with the Indian Embassy officials in Tunisia for arranging their safe return to their native places,” team leader of Migrant Control Cell (under Jharkhand Labour department), Shikha Lakra, told PTI.

Longer hours, no pay, no money for food

The 48 Jharkhand-based migrant workers are allegedly being asked to work overtime, on top of being asked to work for free. According to an NDTV report, the dire conditions have left them without any money to even buy food.

One of the stranded workers released a video narrating his ordeal from Tunisia, claiming that he was being made to work 12 hours and “threatened that we will be jailed and won’t be able to return to India”, the publication further reported.

A social activist who was the first to share the migrant workers’ plight with the migrant cell also spoke about a video message shared by a worker. “Sanjay Kumar from Pirtand block of Giridih shared a video message to me on Thursday late night, which I passed on to the migrant cell and also to a few journalists who in turn shared it with the chief minister on Friday,” said Sikander Ali, the activist, told PTI.

Employed through Delhi firm, now wish to return

According to Sikandar Ali, the migrant workers were sent to Tunisia through a Delhi-based private firm operating under a leading multinational company. They were deployed for a project involving the installation of high transmission wires.

The Narendra Modi government will release a special commemorative coin to mark the 150th of the Arya Samaj, which will feature the Gayatri Mantra inscribed in Devanagari script possibly for the first time on Indian currency.

This follows another significant gesture in recent months when a special coin was issued for the 100 years of RSS, with ‘Bharat Mata’ depicted for the first time on Indian currency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally unveiled the coin and a stamp for the RSS centenary celebrations.

The Arya Samaj was founded by Dayanand Saraswati in April 1875 in erstwhile Bombay. An official notification issued on Thursday stated that the Rs 150-denomination coin will be minted to commemorate the 150-year celebrations of the Arya Samaj.

WHAT WILL THE COIN LOOK LIKE?

The Obverse, or ‘Heads’: The coin’s front will feature the Lion Capitol of the Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend ‘Satyamev Jayate’ inscribed below. On the left periphery, the word ‘Bharat’ will be inscribed in the Devanagari script, and on the right periphery, ‘INDIA’ will be inscribed in English. The coin will also display the rupee symbol ‘₹’ and the denominational value ‘150’ in international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

The Reverse, or ‘Tails’: The reverse will feature the Arya Samaj 150-year logo in the centre, with an inscription in the Devanagari script on the upper periphery and the English inscription ‘ARYA SAMAJ 150 YEAR CELEBRATION’ on the lower periphery. The year ‘1875’ will be inscribed in international numerals on the left side of the logo, and the year ‘2025’ will be inscribed on the right.

‘We’re Committed To Sovereignty Of Afghanistan’: India Slams Pakistan Over Border Tensions

India came down heavily on Pakistan and said Islamabad thinks it has the “right to practice cross-border terrorism with impunity”

Pakistan has also levelled serious charges against India, explicitly blaming New Delhi for the failure of its ceasefire talks with Afghanistan. (Image: AP/File)

India on Thursday reaffirmed its support to Afghanistan amid the country’s escalating border tensions with Pakistan, saying it stands with its sovereignty.

The ministry of external affairs (MEA) came down heavily on Pakistan over cross-border terrorism and said Islamabad thinks it can get away with impunity.

“Pakistan thinks they can keep doing cross-border terrorism without being punished. We are committed to the sovereignty of Afghanistan,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Jaiswal said India remains “fully committed” to the “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence” of Afghanistan.

“I reiterate what I had said in my last briefing. Pakistan is infuriated with Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territories and seems to think that it has the right to practice cross-border terrorism with impunity. Its neighbours find it unacceptable. India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan,” he said.

The military conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan erupted earlier this month following a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul. Afghanistan strongly responded to the attack following which the conflict escalated.

The MEA’s remarks come amid worsening relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan following the failure of peace talks held in Turkey this week. On Wednesday (October 29), the tensions deepened after Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issued a severe warning to the Taliban regime, threatening possible military strikes inside Afghan territory.

Asif has also levelled serious charges against India, explicitly blaming New Delhi for the failure of its ceasefire talks with Afghanistan. He said India is actively attempting to sabotage the agreement between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime.

He claimed that India is waging a “proxy war via Afghanistan with Pakistan”, adding that Islamabad harbours “no doubts” that New Delhi is “financing proxies against Pakistan through Kabul”.

The Pakistani minister’s allegations of India’s interference came with pointed criticism of some members of the Afghan Taliban regime. He referenced foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India, suggesting that certain Taliban leaders are “playing dirty on India’s behest”.

Who Was Rohit Arya, The Mastermind Of Mumbai Hostage Crisis Involving 17 Children?

Mumbai police launched a daring mission to rescue 17 children and two others, who were allegedly kidnapped and held hostage by Rohit Arya in Powai.

Rohit Arya was shot by police after he took 17 children hostage in Mumbai.

Mumbai police launched a daring rescue mission after a man, identified as Rohit Arya, allegedly kidnapped 17 children and two others, and held them hostage inside a studio in Powai for six days. The police barged into the studio and rescued all the children, while Arya was shot and later pronounced dead.

The accused also released a video saying that he wanted to speak to some people, and threatened to set the entire place ablaze if his demands were not met. Police received a call about the incident at 1:45 pm and attempted to negotiate with the alleged kidnapper.

When talks failed, police entered the studio forcefully from the bathroom. Arya opened fire on the police personnel using children as human shields, but was injured in retaliatory firing and was admitted to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. Police officers said the kidnapper appeared mentally unstable.

Who Was Rohit Arya?

Arya was a YouTuber and school teacher from Nagpur. He was originally from Pune. He had secured a tender for a school project linked to the education department during the tenure of then Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, according to India Today.

He later staged several protest marches against Kesarkar, accusing the state government of withholding his funds in the Education Department.

The accused was also an employee at RA Studios, and set up a fake web series audition and invited 100 students. He let 83 students go and kept 17 as hostages with two other people. He kept them on the ground floor and first floor of the studio in Powai.

In a video released after he kidnapped the children, Arya also claimed that he simply wants to speak with certain people and has “moral demands” without specifying what they are. “I’m not a terrorist, nor do I demand a lot of money, and I certainly don’t want anything immoral,” he said.

Why India Pulled Out of Tajikistan’s Strategically Important Ayni Airbase

In 2021, India used Ayni airbase to rescue its nationals and officials from Afghanistan after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press conference (File Image)

India has wrapped up its operation at a strategic air base in Tajikistan’s Ayni following the lapse of a bilateral agreement. India was involved in the development of the Soviet-era airbase including strengthening its runway fuel depots and an air traffic control facility. India’s military presence at the Ayni base was seen as part of its efforts to expand its strategic influence in central Asia.
Though India pulled out its personnel and military equipment from the airbase near Tajik capital city Dushanbe in 2022, the reason for wrapping up its presence has emerged now.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while responding to a media query, said that the arrangement was in place for several years and was concluded in 2022.

“We had a bilateral arrangement with Tajikistan for the rehabilitation and development of any aerodrome. This arrangement was in place for several years. After the conclusion of the agreement that we had with Tajikistan, we have handed over the facility to the Tajikistan side. This happened in 2022,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

According to a PTI report, India had initially decided to have a presence at the airbase to support the erstwhile Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.
The Indian military had even temporarily deployed Su-30MKI fighter jets as well as military choppers at Ayni around 10 years ago.

Why Is India Urging Bangladesh to Hand Over Zakir Naik on His Dhaka Visit?

India has urged Bangladesh to hand over fugitive preacher Zakir Naik, wanted for hate speech and money laundering, upon his arrival in Dhaka on November 28–29.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has publicly stated that it expects Bangladesh to hand over fugitive Zakir Naik when he arrives in Dhaka, calling him a fugitive wanted by India. The nation has long accused Naik of making hate-speeches and of involvement in money-laundering and other charges. He remains outside Indian jurisdiction.
Naik, who is currently based in Malaysia, is expected to visit Bangladesh on November 28-29 to attend a charity program organised by Spark Event Management. The event is planned for Dhaka, possibly in the Agargaon area, and further details will be announced soon, Times Now has learnt.
Seven years after the Sheikh Hasina government vowed that Islamic preacher Zakir Naik “will never get access to Bangladesh”, the radical preacher will be hosted by the Muhammad Yunus government in the Asian country. Naik was banned from entering Bangladesh after news reports surfaced that at least two of the terrorists behind the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery cafe in Dhaka in July 2016 were “inspired by his preaching about Islam.”

He is also being probed under terror and money laundering charges by the National Investigation Agency in India, which he left after the Dhaka terrorist attack. The NIA first registered a case against Naik under anti-terror laws in 2016 for allegedly promoting enmity between different religious groups.

Exercise Trishul: Indian Armed Forces Flex Joint Power in 12-Day Drill Along the Indo-Pak Border

The drills will involve special forces commandos, missile batteries, warships, battle tanks, and attack aircraft, including the Rafale and Sukhoi Su-30 fighters.

India is holding a major tri-services exercise, ‘Exercise Trishul’, spanning from October 30 to November 10, aimed at testing and strengthening interoperability among the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force. The large-scale drills are being conducted across Gujarat and Rajasthan, close to the Indo-Pak border.
The tri-service exercise aims to enhance jointness, operational synergy, and mission readiness among the services.
The Indian Navy will lead the opening phase beginning today, followed by the Indian Army in the second phase and the Indian Air Force in the concluding phase.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Coast Guard are also participating in the exercise as auxiliary forces, further strengthening the integrated approach to national security.

The drills will involve special forces commandos, missile batteries, warships, battle tanks, and attack aircraft, including the Rafale and Sukhoi Su-30 fighters.

The Indian Army has deployed T-90 main battle tanks, BrahMos missile units, and Akash air defence systems, bringing a powerful ground component to the exercise.
The Indian Air Force has committed its frontline fighter jets—the French-origin Rafale and Russian-built Sukhoi Su-30—along with Sea Guardian and Heron drones to enhance surveillance and strike capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has fielded Kolkata-class destroyers, Nilgiri-class frigates, and a range of fast-attack craft, ensuring strong maritime integration in the joint operations.
Ahead of India’s Exercise Trishul, Pakistan announced changes in certain routes for Karachi and Lahore flight regions. Although there has been no official word about it, the step by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is said to have been taken in anticipation of a military exercise/weapons test by India as part of its Tri-series exercise across the border this week.
Since the May conflict between India and Pakistan after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Pakistan has several times extended its ban on Indian airlines flying over its airspace, as the two countries continue to block each other’s commercial flights due to political tensions. Pakistan authorities have closed its airspace to Indian-registered airplanes flights.

Gujarat is all set for grand ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ celebrations on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Friday (October 31).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a press conference in Patna on Thursday to give the details and has also written to his cabinet counterparts.

“It is a matter of immense joy and pride for us that this year the nation is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel dreamt of a united, strong, and prosperous India, which he realised through his remarkable leadership, vision, and determination. Inspired by his vision, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, presented the passionate pledge of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’; a vision that powerfully brings alive India’s eternal spirit of ‘unity in diversity’ in every state, language, culture, and tradition,” the Home Minister has written in his letter.

A ‘Unity Parade’ will be organised at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on Friday, with participation from state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and NCC cadets, Shah has written.

“This year, tableaux from various states, union territories, and central armed police forces will also be part of the parade. On the eve of Unity Day, October 30, 2025, a theatrical performance based on Sardar Patel will be organised in Ekta Nagar. India, China agree to maintain LAC stability

Indian and Chinese military commanders agree to use existing mechanisms to resolve border issues, maintaining stability post-disengagement in Ladakh.

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/

Indian and Chinese military commanders have agreed to use existing mechanisms to resolve any ground issues along the border to maintain stability, even as the two sides continue the process of addressing the long-standing boundary dispute and normalising ties after a prolonged face-off on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Corps commanders of India and China met for their 23rd round of talks at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on October 25, according to a readout issued by the external affairs ministry on Wednesday. This was the first meeting between the commanders since the two sides reached an understanding in October 2024 to end the standoff in Ladakh sector of the LAC.

“Both sides agreed to continue to use existing mechanisms to resolve any ground issues along the border to maintain stability,” the readout said.

This was also the first meeting of the mechanism involving army generals in the Western Sector since the 24th round of talks on August 19 between the Special Representatives on the border issue, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.

The talks, which the readout said were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, reviewed the progress since the 22nd round of talks between the corps commanders in October 2024. Both sides “shared the view that peace and tranquillity has been maintained in the India-China border areas”, the readout noted.

A statement issued by China’s defence ministry in Beijing said the two sides engaged in “active and in-depth communication on the management of the western section” of the India-China border.

The two sides “agreed to continue communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity” in the border areas.

India and China reached an understanding on October 21, 2024, on the disengagement of frontline forces at the “friction points” of Demchok and Depsang, thus ending the military face-off in Ladakh sector of the LAC that had begun in April-May 2020. The standoff, and a brutal clash in Galwan Valley that killed 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese troops, took bilateral ties to their lowest point in six decades.

Two days after the understanding, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping met in the Russian city of Kazan and agreed to revive several mechanisms, such as talks between the Special Representatives, to address the border issue and normalise relations.

Odisha iron ore mining cap will hurt India’s growth: Government to SC

India’s government argues against capping iron ore mining in Odisha, claiming it would hinder growth and the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative, citing resource increases.

Supreme Court is examining a petition on imposing a cap on extraction of iron (HT)

Putting a cap on iron ore mining in Odisha will impede India’s growth trajectory and sabotage the dream of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, the Central and Odisha governments told the Supreme Court which is examining a petition on imposing a cap on extraction, similar to the ones it imposed in Karnataka and Goa in the interest of intergenerational equity in preserving natural resources.

Telling the court that things have changed since 2013, when the cap on iron ore mining was imposed in Karnataka and subsequently in Goa, two Union ministries – Ministry of Mines (MoM) and Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) claimed stricter regulatory checks and legal safeguards being put in place to avoid illegal mining flagged by the court in Karnataka, that was in violation of the prevailing laws.

Odisha currently contributes to half the country’s iron ore production. The Centre argued that despite millions of tonnes of ore being extracted, the resources in the state have shown a 133% increase from 4,180 million tonnes in 2000 to 9,737.24 million tonnes in 2023.

This resource base is all set to increase considerably in the coming years as the MoM said that 71.52% of the potential area for iron ore in the state is yet to be geologically explored

Any capping on iron ore or manganese extraction will impact the steel production, the government said, explaining, “India is currently on a high growth trajectory with the overall objective of achieving broad based improvement in living standards of all sections of society. To fully harness its growth potential the country requires creation of infrastructure such as airports, railways, bridges, ports, real estate, manufacturing, etc. In all of these, indigenous production of steel will be extremely crucial.”

In a separate affidavit, the Odisha government said, “Every Industry (defence, health care, automobile, etc.) is reliant on steel production which is ever increasing. Capping of iron ore mining would lead to a substantial deficit of production of steel and other metals. The dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat is dependent on mineral production which will be sabotaged in case of imposition of unwarranted capping.”

The Centre further told the court that the concept of “inter-generational equity” does not mean imposing a ban or limit on mining of minerals. “It must be understood holistically considering the development needs of the country, resource or reserve augmentation, and potential for recycling. On all these parameters, the data clearly shows that no capping is warranted on production of iron ore in Odisha,” the Centre submitted.

The affidavits came in response to an order passed by the top court which is examining a petition filed by non profit organisation Common Cause, which has advocated a cap on mining in Odisha based on the earlier instances of large-scale illegal mining in Karnataka and Goa.

The petitioner led by advocates Prashant Bhushan and Pranav Sachdeva pointed out that in August 2017, the top court had directed compensation to be recovered from miners for extracting iron ore in Odisha beyond the permissible limits. Bhushan said that the state had failed to recover the amounts worth more than ₹2700 crore.

A bench of justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih pulled up the state for the non-recovery of the compensation dues despite the order passed in 2017. It granted eight weeks to the state to indicate the steps being taken to effect recovery of the dues from the private miners. As regards the cap on mining, the court posted the matter for consideration in January allowing Common Cause and amicus curiae senior advocate ADN Rao to respond to both affidavits.

Besides MoM, even the MoEFCC told the court that the production of iron ore in Odisha is 159.22 million tonnes while the Environmental Carrying Capacity (ECC) sanctioned for iron ore mines in Odisha is 272.98 million tonnes till 2024-25. Thus, it said that the actual production was substantially less than ECC sanctioned capacity.

The MoEFCC further informed the court that in 2023, the matter of putting a cap on mining in Odisha was comprehensively considered in consultation with expert body CSIR-NEERI who did not support the idea due to the technological advancements in place and amendments in the law. Rule 35 of MCDR (Mineral conservation and Development Rules) 2017 provides for star rating of the mining leases based on the sustainable mining practices adopted by the miners as per NEERI suggestions.

How IIT Kanpur’s cloud seeding ‘success’ report ignores natural air patterns

Video grab of the aircraft that was used in the cloud seeding activity. (AP)

An unsigned report from IIT Kanpur, shared by Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday, contends that the cloud seeding experiment in Delhi was somewhat successful, citing rainfall data and air quality improvements at three locations.

But as HT’s report on the experiment, published on October 29, pointed out, the report cites rain data from Windy.com, a website that displays modelled estimates rather than measured rainfall. And the claim of cleaner air suffers from equally serious methodological failures.

What IIT Kanpur claimed

The report stated: “The PM 2.5 was 221, 230, and 229 reported from Mayur Vihar, Carol (Karol) Bagh, and Burari, respectively, before cloud seeding, which got reduced to 207, 206, and 203, respectively, after the first seeding. Similarly, PM 10 was 207, 206, 209, which got reduced to 177, 163, 177 at Mayur Vihar, Carol Bagh, and Burari, respectively. Given that winds were negligible, one possible explanation is that the denser moisture content created due to seeding particles has helped in settling down a portion of these particles, which translated to these reductions.”

This is not a scientifically sound way of assessing or reporting air quality improvement. Here is why.

One: No units specified

PM2.5 and PM10 refer to particles smaller than 2.5 and 10 micrometres in diameter suspended in air. The scientific convention is to report their concentrations—the mass of pollutants in a given volume of air. India’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards, for instance, specify limits in micrograms per cubic metre.

Air quality data is also commonly presented using a unitless index that translates concentrations into health impact categories. The IIT Kanpur report cites no units at all, making it impossible to determine whether it is reporting concentrations or index values.

This ambiguity matters. While India has an official conversion formula published by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the formulae differ for PM2.5 and PM10. Without knowing what the numbers represent, the claimed “improvement” cannot be properly evaluated.

Two: No time period stated

The report does not specify the averaging period for its measurements or when exactly they were taken. Are these 15-minute averages, hourly concentrations, or 24-hour rolling averages? Without this information, it is impossible to determine how long any improvement lasted—or whether the measurements are even comparable.

Three: Natural daily patterns ignored

The experiment was conducted in two sorties, with seeding taking place roughly between 2 PM and 5 PM. This timing coincides precisely with the period when Delhi’s air naturally improves each afternoon.

The air quality data cites three locations, although the report states that data was collected from 20 locations. However, IIT Kanpur director Manindra Agarwal on Wednesday told HT in Lucknow that his team set up “15 stations in different parts of Delhi” but did not give details about their type and location.

At least one of the locations they cited, Burari Crossing, is covered by an India Meteorological Department air quality station. Hourly data from this station shows that air quality consistently improves between noon and 6pm, then deteriorates in the late evening and night.

Comparing PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations on October 28 with the three previous days reveals an identical pattern: the 2pm to 5pm window is consistently the cleanest part of the day. (See charts 1A, 1B)

This makes it impossible to isolate any improvement attributable to cloud seeding from the natural daily cycle.

Silencing dissent, political vendetta: Sonam Wangchuk’s wife to Supreme Court in amended plea against his detention

Angmo, who had earlier assailed Wangchuk’s detention, has now sought to amend the plea to challenge his incarceration on merits.

Sonam Wangchuk and Supreme CourtFacebook

Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of Ladakh climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, has told the Supreme Court that her husband’s detention is not based on genuine concerns of public order or security, but is a calculated attempt to silence a respected citizen exercising his right to dissent.

Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) following violent protests in Leh in September over demands of statehood and Sixth Schedule status for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Angmo, who had earlier assailed Wangchuk’s detention, today sought to amend the plea to challenge his incarceration on merits after the grounds of detention were recently supplied to him.

The Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria allowed Angmo’s application seeking to amend the plea and asked the Union government to respond to the additional grounds raised by her.

“Leave of this court sought to amend the petition to place on record additional facts, documents and grounds. Petitioner permitted to amend the petition and file the amended copy within a week and amended counter to be filed within 10 days thereafter. Rejoinder if any within a week thereafter. List on November 24,” the Court ordered.

In an application seeking addition of grounds to challenge his detention, Angmo has referred to a series of actions taken against Wangchuk before his arrest, including the cancellation of the foreign funding certificate for his NGO.

“It is wholly preposterous that after over three decades of being recognized at the State, National, and International levels for his contributions to grassroots education, innovation, and environmental conservation in Ladakh and across India, Mr. Sonam Wangchuk would suddenly be targeted. Merely two months before the elections and the final rounds of dialogue between ABL, KDA, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, he was served with notices for land lease cancellation, FCRA cancellation, initiation of a CBI investigation, and summons from the Income Tax Department,” the amended plea states.

The plea further states that his detention was based on five First Information Reports (FIRs), out of which three do not even mention any allegations against him.

While the fourth FIR is against Wangchuk, it is not connected to the violence, it adds. The fifth FIR pertains to the September 24 violence in Leh.

“Out of the five FIRs relied upon, three pertain to the year 2024, bearing no proximate, live, or rational nexus to the detention of Mr. Wangchuk in September 2025. Moreover, four out of five of the FIRs, out of which three are registered against “unknown persons”, do not name Mr. Sonam Wangchuk,” the plea states, while denying any link between the FIRs and his detention.

Wangchuk’s wife has also denied the allegations that he, as a key member of the Apex Body of Leh (ABL), had instigated the public. She has also disclosed that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had strong reservations about his participation in the dialogue process with the Centre.

The plea states that it had been offered “that if the MHA were to hold the next round of talks at the earliest and include Mr. Sonam Wangchuk in the HPC delegation, then the ABL would call off the 35-day Anshan.”

However, it adds, that this proposal to include Wangchuk in the delegation “was categorically rejected by the MHA, citing ‘higher-level decisions’.”

Angmo has also alleged that Wangchuk’s statement about the uprisings in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has been completely misconstrued either out of a clear misunderstanding of nuance or selective lifting of lines from a long speech. His message was unambiguously rooted in peace, non-violence and democratic methods, and any contrary interpretation is unjust, misleading and malicious, the plea states.

She has further argued that for the past 30 years, Wangchuk has worked tirelessly for nation-building through educational reform and environmental solutions, with awards conferred on him by various state governments and successive Central governments.

On the violence, Angmo said that Wangchuk had immediately acted and tried to the best of his ability to curtail the violence and restore peace.

Stating that Wangchuk has consistently advocated for the protection of the fragile ecology of Ladakh and the Himalayan region, Angmo denied the allegations that he engaged in activities prejudicial to the security of the State. She has highlighted his support for the Armed Forces in the region.

“Wangchuk has made significant contributions in support of national security and the Armed Forces, including the design and development of mobile solar-powered self-heating tents for the Indian Army deployed in extreme high-altitude regions. His work has been directed towards assisting and strengthening the capabilities of the Indian security forces, not undermining them in any manner.”

The claims he was advocating for an independent Ladakh have also been denied. Angmo has submitted that very demand for inclusion of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule reflects his allegiance to and faith in the Constitution.

“The allegation that Mr. Sonam Wangchuk has been “regularly bragging about his foreign connections and threatening to use such connections against the Government” is wholly unsubstantiated, incorrect, and without any material on record,” the plea submits further.

In this regard, Angmo has highlighted that while participating in a conference in Pakistan, he had praised the environmental policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The plea also alleges that certain “IT Cells” have deliberately used short clips, taking statements out of context to target him.

500 Indians from Myanmar scam hub stranded in Thailand; Delhi trying to help them

India is cooperating with Thailand to return nearly 500 Indian nationals after fleeing a cybercrime hub in neighbouring Myanmar. The move follows a military raid that forced hundreds, including Indians, to cross into Thailand, where they are under detention.

India is working with Thailand to repatriate nearly 500 nationals detained in the country who fled Myanmar after they were tricked into working at a Chinese mafia-run cybercrime hub there. Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul said India planned to send a plane to take back its citizens who entered the country from Myanmar.

Around 700 trafficked workers, including Indians, fled the Chinese mafia-run KK Park compound in Myanmar after the junta raided the facility last week. Hundreds, including Indians, were detained by Thai authorities after crossing the border.

In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the ministry was aware of the situation about the detained Indians in Thailand, and it’s working with authorities to bring them back home.

“We are aware of Indian nationals who have been detained by Thai authorities. They had crossed into Thailand from Myanmar over the past few days. Our mission in Thailand is working closely with Thai authorities to verify their nationality and to repatriate them, after necessary legal formalities are completed in Thailand,” Jaiswal said.

Earlier today, Thai PM Anutin said the Indian ambassador will meet with the head of immigration to discuss speeding up the legal verification process for the nearly 500 Indian nationals ahead of their flight back to India.

“India has asked for cooperation from Thailand. They don’t want this to burden us. They will send a plane to pick these victims up. The plane will land directly in Mae Sot,” he was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying.

JUNTA RAID ON MYANMAR’S KK PARK
Starting last week, the Myanmar military conducted a series of military operations against the KK Park cybercrime compound, driving a large number of people – mostly foreign nationals who worked there – into the Thai border town of Mae Sot.

More than 1,500 people from 28 countries have fled and are now being looked after in Thailand, according to a statement by local authorities.

Girl rape survivor, 15, delivers baby as Gujarat High Court hears abortion plea

The court directed the state to bear the survivor’s expenses for six months and ensure rehabilitation for the minor and her child.

A minor rape survivor gave birth to a baby girl during the hearing of a petition seeking abortion of a 35-week-old fetus

A minor rape survivor gave birth to a baby girl during the Gujarat High Court hearing on a petition seeking permission to terminate her 35-week-old pregnancy. The court directed the state government to bear all expenses for six months, including delivery costs.

The father of the 15-year-old rape survivor from Ahmedabad had moved the Gujarat High Court seeking medical termination of her pregnancy. He had also lodged a complaint against the accused at the police station on October 24.

Following the petition, the High Court had directed Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad to conduct a medical examination of the minor. Before the hospital could submit its report, the girl delivered a baby weighing 2.2 kg on the afternoon of October 28. According to the medical report, both the baby and the mother are healthy.

In its order, the court observed that the plea for medical termination had become “infructuous” since the delivery had already taken place. The High Court instructed the investigating officer of Ahmedabad district and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to ensure the rehabilitation of both the minor mother and the newborn.

A 60-year-old woman drowned, 13 were injured and eight people went missing on Wednesday after a boat capsized in the Kaudiyala river near Bharathapur village in a densely forested area of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6 pm when 22 people from Khairatiya village of neighbouring Lakhimpur district were travelling by boat to Bharathapur.

An official statement issued in Lucknow mentioned that out of 22 people, 13 were saved while one Ramajiya (60) drowned and her body was later recovered.

Locals said the boat overturned in the river because the flow of the water was strong.

Eight people are still missing and attempts are on to trace them, the statement added.

Among the eight missing are boatman Mihilal Yadav (38), Shivnandan Maurya (50), Suman (28), Sohni (5), Shivam (9), and a five-year-old daughter of Shanti. Victim Ramjaiya’s two grandsons aged 7 years and 10 years are also missing, it said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the incident and directed police and civic officials to reach the site immediately, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, to ensure prompt rescue and relief operations.

Bharathapur village, located deep inside the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, is surrounded on three sides by the river and has no road connectivity, leaving locals at the mercy of boats for travel.

Anmol, a prized buffalo from Haryana, has once again captured the Internet’s attention. Weighing a massive 1,500 kilograms and reportedly valued at Rs 23 crore, the giant animal never fails to turn heads wherever it goes. Recently, a video of Anmol making a grand entrance at the famous Pushkar Mela has gone viral on social media.

The fair, which began on October 30 and will run until November 5, has showcased countless animals over the years, but only a few have drawn as much attention as Anmol is receiving this time.

The Buffalo That Costs More Than Cars

Anmol is no ordinary buffalo. He is worth an unbelievable Rs 23 crore. To give a sense of how expensive that is, the amount could buy two Rolls-Royce cars, ten Mercedes-Benz vehicles or even good property in several Indian cities. So, when this huge buffalo walked into the fair, all eyes naturally turned towards him.

His gleaming black coat, muscular frame and walk caught everyone’s attention immediately. People could not help but comment on the sight of this magnificent animal.

One user wrote, “Kitna mehnat laga hai bhai saaf pata chal raha hai (You can clearly see how much effort has gone into raising him).

Another jokingly said, “Wow, eski skin toh humari abhinatriyo ki skin se bhi zyada chamakdar hai (Wow, his skin is shinier than our actresses’ skin).”

Someone else calculated what can be bought with Anmol’s price: “17 defender to aa hi jayegi.. with VIP number (17 Defender can be easily bought with VIP number plate with that kind of money.”

“His skincare is still better than mine bhai,” read another hilarious comment.

A Sneak Peek Into Anmol’s Daily Life

Anmol is eight years old and comes from the Sirsa district of Haryana. Not just his looks, but the demand for his high-quality semen, which is used for breeding cattle, also makes him valuable. His owner, Gill, earns around Rs 5 lakh every month through this. Each extraction, collected twice a week, is sold for Rs 250.

Raising Anmol is no easy task. His daily care costs nearly Rs 1,500, and his diet sounds more like a royal meal plan. Every day, he is fed 250 grams of almonds, 4 kilograms of pomegranates, 30 bananas, 5 litres of milk and 20 eggs. Along with that, he eats ghee, soybeans, corn, oil cake and fresh green fodder to keep him strong and healthy.

‘Boomer Uncle’: Liver Doc Slams Zoho CEO For Linking Child Vaccination To Autism

Liver Doc criticised Vembu for sharing a study that he claimed was “not peer-reviewed and not scrutinised”.

Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu and social media-famous doctor Cyriac Abby Philips, aka The Liver Doc.

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu sparked a debate online on Tuesday after he drew a connection between child vaccination and autism. This led to a heated exchange with Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, an award-winning hepatologist known as ‘The Liver Doc’ on social media, who once again labelled Vembu as a “boomer uncle”.

Liver Doc criticised Vembu for sharing a study that he claimed was “not peer-reviewed and not scrutinised”.

What Zoho Co-Founder Said
On Tuesday morning, Vembu shared a study asserting that vaccination is a “dominant risk factor” for autism. Vembu, whose son has autism, has been vocal about the condition.

In his social media post, Vembu argued against child vaccination, suggesting it is linked to the rising incidence of autism. “Parents should take this analysis seriously. I believe there is increasing evidence that we are administering too many vaccines to very young children. This trend is spreading in India too, and we are observing a rapid increase in autism cases,” he wrote.

Responding to a social media user, Vembu clarified that he is not against vaccines but is questioning the quantity administered to children today.

The Liver Doc’s ‘Boomer Uncle’ Response to Sridhar Vembu
The Liver Doc urged parents not to halt vaccinations if they want to prevent the return of polio or measles deaths, as seen in the US, attributing such outcomes to “boomer uncles in charge of US Health Departments who have turned anti-science”.

Critiquing the study shared by Vembu, the hepatologist deemed its conclusions “not credible”. “The ‘authors’ are antivaxxers funded by an antivaxx organisation, publishing on their own antivaxx website. Not peer-reviewed, not scrutinised. The low-IQ authors have selectively amplified weaker associations while ignoring robust epidemiological data from millions showing no vaccine-autism link,” The Liver Doc wrote on X.

A stitch too late: Ahmedabad tailor fined Rs 11,500 for blouse delivery delay

A simple tailoring order in Ahmedabad escalated into a legal battle after the tailor failed to deliver a blouse on time and as promised. The consumer court ruled in favour of the customer, awarding compensation and refund, highlighting consumer rights awareness in India.

In Ahmedabad, what began as a simple tailoring order turned into a months-long legal battle that reached the district consumer dispute redressal commission.

A tailor has been ordered to pay nearly Rs 11,500, including compensation and legal costs, after failing to deliver a blouse on time for a customer’s family wedding.

The complainant, Poonamben Pariya, a resident of Ankur area, had approached Soni, The Designer Shop on CG Road in November 2024 to have a designer blouse stitched. The blouse was meant to be worn at a close relative’s wedding scheduled for December 24, 2024. Poonamben paid an advance of Rs 4,395, expecting the blouse to be ready a week before the ceremony.

When Poonamben visited the shop to collect her blouse, she found it was neither ready on time nor made according to the agreed design. The finished piece reportedly had visible stains and design flaws, leaving her shocked and frustrated.

Despite the tailor’s assurance that the issues would be fixed, he failed to deliver the blouse even after being given extra time.

Left with no choice, Poonamben had to wear a different outfit and matching jewellery to the wedding. “The excitement of attending a family function vanished completely,” she said, recalling how a moment meant for joy turned sour due to the tailor’s negligence.

FROM BOUTIQUE TO THE COURTROOM

After the wedding, Poonamben demanded a refund of the advance payment. The tailor refused, allegedly telling her that she could take the blouse but would not get her money back.

Feeling wronged, she decided to file a complaint with the Ahmedabad District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in June 2025.

Despite being called for hearings, the tailor initially failed to appear before the commission. Following the hearings and examination of the case, the commission found the tailor guilty of deficiency in service and ruled in Poonamben’s favour.

THE VERDICT: COMPENSATION FOR MENTAL DISTRESS

The commission ordered the tailor to refund the Rs 4,395 advance with 7% annual interest within 45 days, payable by cheque. In addition, the tailor was directed to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for the mental harassment caused and Rs 2,000 towards legal expenses, bringing the total to around Rs 11,500.

Cyclone Montha weakens after Andhra landfall, leaves trail of damage, 1 dead

The India Meteorological Department said Cyclone Montha weakened into a cyclonic storm after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds before gradually losing strength over land.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said early Wednesday that severe cyclonic storm Montha weakened into a cyclonic storm after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to several coastal districts.

“The Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha over coastal Andhra Pradesh moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph and weakened into a Cyclonic Storm,” the IMD said in its 2:30 a.m. update.

The storm was centered about 20 km west-northwest of Narsapur, 50 km northeast of Machilipatnam, and 90 km west-southwest of Kakinada, according to the weather office. It is being continuously tracked through Doppler radars at Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam.

Officials said the weakening was in line with earlier projections as the storm moved inland and began losing strength. Heavy rain and gusty winds continued to pound West Godavari, Krishna, and East Godavari districts, with warnings issued for flooding in low-lying areas.

Earlier, Cyclone Montha swept across the Andhra Pradesh and Yanan coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“The latest observations indicate that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ has crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanan coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, to the south of Kakinada,” the IMD said in a post on X, confirming the landfall process had been completed shortly after midnight.

Coastal areas experienced heavy rain and gale-force winds as the cyclone barreled through, uprooting trees and disrupting power supply in several districts.

Earlier, in a 9:30 pm bulletin, the IMD said the severe cyclonic storm moved northwestwards with a speed of 15 km/hour and lay centred about 60 km east of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 100 km south-southwest of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 230 km southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 480 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).

The after effects of Cyclone Montha are expected to be felt in parts of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Heavy rain has been predicted in these states for the next few days.

ANDHRA IMPOSES NIGHT CURFEW ON VEHICULAR MOVEMENT

The Andhra Pradesh government announced a complete suspension of vehicle movement in seven cyclone-affected districts — Krishna, Eluru, East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, and parts of Alluri Sitarama Raju (Chinturu and Rampachodavaram divisions) — from 8:30 pm until 6 am on Wednesday.

Only emergency medical services are exempt from the night curfew. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to official safety advisories.

District Collectors and Superintendents of Police have been directed to halt all road traffic, including on national highways passing through these districts.

Ahead of the landfall, power supply was disrupted on Manginapudi Beach Road in Machilipatnam after a palm tree fell on the power lines due to strong winds. Authorities were working to restore the power supply.

HEAVY RAIN IN ANDHRA, FLIGHTS AND TRAINS CANCELLED

Under the influence of the cyclone, Machilipatnam recorded 5.2 mm of rainfall since 8:30 am, followed by Narasapur (9.8 mm), Tuni (15.6 mm), Kakinada (5.7 mm) and Visakhapatnam (0.2 mm).

Continuous rain has also been lashing Nellore district for the past 36 hours, with an average of five cm recorded in the last 24 hours and some pockets receiving up to seven cm, an official told news agency PTI.

“Heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next 12 hours, and monitoring teams are on alert across vulnerable urban and rural areas,” the official added.

Meanwhile, a woman died in Makanagudem village of Konaseema district after a tree was uprooted in strong gales and fell on her, a police official told PTI.

The impending cyclone has also hit flight operations in Andhra Pradesh, with authorities cancelling 32 flights at Visakhapatnam airport, 16 at Vijayawada airport and four in Tirupati.

Meanwhile, 120 trains were cancelled in total on Monday and Tuesday across the South Central Railway (SCR) Zone in view of Cyclone Montha, a railway official said.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has positioned 45 teams of rescuers to undertake relief and rescue operations as the cyclone makes landfall on Andhra Pradesh coast.

NEIGHBOURING ODISHA ON ALERT

Odisha, which is also expected to face the brunt of Cyclone Montha in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, is on alert with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, saying his government opened over 2,000 disaster relief centres in eight southern districts for people likely to be impacted by the severe cyclonic storm.

He said 11,396 people have shifted to 2,048 disaster relief centres opened by the state government.

He said tourists are denied entry to destinations like Deomali and Mahendragiri hills, and restrictions are imposed on visit of people to different sea beaches across the coastline.

The Chief Minister said the schools and anganwadi centres were closed in nine districts till October 30 in the wake of the cyclone situation.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway has announced the cancellation, diversion and short termination of some trains operating in the Waltair region and connected routes. The leaves of government employees have also been cancelled till October 30.

The state government has advised fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal, along and off the Odisha coast, till October 29.

IMD ISSUES RAIN WARNINGS FOR SEVERAL ODISHA DISTRICTS

The IMD has issued a red alert for Tuesday as it forecast extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.

Similarly, an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) was also issued for the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Khurda, Puri and Bargarh districts.

Delhi High Court says order on misleading ORS labels not a license for companies to continue manufacturing

The order was portrayed on social media as the Court having allowed food business operators to continue manufacturing beverages and styling them as ORS.

Delhi High Court and ORS

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued clarifications with respect to its order on the issue of manufacture of beverages with misleading ‘ORS’ labels.

On October 17, the Court protected JNTL Consumer Health India, the Indian subsidiary of the American company Kenvue, against the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) decision to ban beverages from using the term ‘ORS’.

The order was portrayed on social media as the Court having allowed food business operators (FBOs) to continue manufacturing beverages and styling them as ORS (oral rehydration solution).

However, Justice Sachin Datta today said that the order was not meant to allow the continued manufacture of products with that name, with a view to deceiving consumers.

The Court further said that it was a consent order whose objective was to enable the FSSAI to take a decision after considering the representation made by JNTL, which was using ‘ORS’ in its trademark to sell beverages.

“I would have restrained the manufacturers from manufacturing fresh batches had I known that the FSSAI would take two weeks to take a decision. The consent order was passed to enable the FSSAI to take the requisite steps. It wasn’t to allow all these manufacturers to continue manufacturing these products. The idea was that the FSSAI would do the needful in two to three days,” the Court remarked.

Justice Datta today noted the submission of the FSSAI counsel that the Authority will decide the matter by Friday.

“If you [FSSAI] are unable to do it, you move an application. I contemplate passing orders to restrain the manufacturers from manufacturing,” the Court further said.

The Court was hearing a separate plea filed by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories challenging the FSSAI order of October 14 and 15, withdrawing earlier approvals that had allowed the use of the term ‘ORS’ with prefixes or suffixes in registered trademarks for electrolyte and beverage products.

The FSSAI has said that using ORS, even with prefixes or suffixes in trademarked names, is misleading and constitutes a violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, unless the product complies with the World Health Organisation (WHO) formulation. ORS is the term used for oral rehydration solution formulations recommended by the WHO and is given to people suffering from dehydration.
